The Greening Deserts species protection program, the Trillion Trees Initiative and connected projects for biodiversity conservation, cleantech, climate protection, ecological education, ecosystem restoration, environmental protection, greening, greentech, reforestation and species protection can reduce climate change effects, deforestation, droughts, desertification, land degradation, mass extinction, global warming and pollution worldwide.
This document provides an introduction to the Plant for the Planet: The Billion Tree Campaign. It discusses how the campaign was inspired by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai's call to plant 1 billion trees. The campaign far exceeded its goal, receiving pledges for nearly 2.4 billion trees by early 2008 from a wide range of partners around the world. The document highlights the importance of trees and reforestation for the environment, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. It celebrates the success and widespread participation in the campaign.

In 2012 Planet Aid celebrated its 15th year of operation.
When we started back in 1997 we had just a few dozen or so drop-off boxes in the Boston area, collecting several thousand pounds of clothes a week. Today, our operations
reach across 22 states. In 2012 alone we collected 110 million pounds of clothing from 18,000 collection bins that we own and operate. Our growth is a testament to the hard work of our staff and the help received from our many supporters.
Every day, more businesses, schools and community groups choose to host Planet Aid bins, helping to make recycling more convenient for all and saving valuable resources.
The document describes a global photography contest organized by GlobalHunt Foundation in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and with sponsorship from Himalaya Drug Company and Mahindra ekoSol. The contest invited participants to submit photographs highlighting environmental challenges affecting small island developing states and the rising sea levels threatening their existence. Over 200 entries were received from countries around the world, bringing attention to the impacts of climate change and need for conservation efforts.
The document discusses sustainable development and how it has been misunderstood. It argues that sustainable development aims to improve ecosystems through community engagement and scientific research. However, some celebrities promote environmentalism while living unsustainably. The document also explains that sustainable development allows responsible use of natural resources in a way that conserves them for future generations through techniques that limit environmental impact.

The foundation's mission is to accelerate the transition to more sustainable communities.
Different approaches to sustainable developmentMariam Elsadek
sustainable development considered to be the modern environmental movement, against anthropocentric and biocenteric school of thoughts, it merges both philosophies to make the new approach of conservation. Different approaches has been taken to study the content of sustainable development.
This document discusses the social change movement of Re-Earthism, which aims to improve sustainability through social awareness and global cooperation across disciplines. It notes that current social constructs can inhibit sustainability efforts, using gender norms as an example. Re-Earthism hopes to reconstruct new sustainable norms and values. The document then provides background on the concepts of Earthism and Darwinism, tracing the origins of Earthism as a belief system. Key beliefs of Earthism include not believing in a creator god, believing in evolution and reincarnation of energy, and emphasizing education, conservation, and environmental protection.
Sustainable development aims to balance economic, social, and environmental aspects of human activity. It seeks to meet current needs without compromising future generations by preserving natural resources and ecosystems. The three types of sustainable development are environmental, economic, and social. Sustainable development is important because the rising global population will increase demands for basic needs like food, water, and shelter, as well as city development. It can also help control climate change through lower fossil fuel use and create more financially stable economies.
The document provides an introduction to sustainability, including:
- Definitions of sustainability from various perspectives focusing on meeting needs over time without depleting resources.
- Challenges to sustainability such as water scarcity, pollution, climate change, and fossil fuel dependency.
- A systems view of life emphasizing interconnection and considering impacts over time.
- Principles of sustainability including balance, equity, and stewardship of natural systems for future generations.
- Visions for sustainability exemplified by frameworks like One Planet Living centered on ecological integrity, social inclusion, and economic justice.
This Power Point presentation is an overview of the green movement and environmentalism designed for students with reading problems. Most every card is read aloud and there is music provided in the background. The sound quality is not great, but the student can understand what is said.
Presentation defines Sustainability, Sustainability Management, and presents some basic tools the Sustainability Professional can use to design and implement a Sustainability strategy.
The presentation summarizes the Rio+20 conference and key outcomes. The objectives of Rio+20 were to bring governments, organizations, and groups together to agree on measures for poverty reduction, clean energy, and sustainable development. Over $513 billion was pledged to build a sustainable future. The conference focused on building a green economy and lifting people out of poverty through supporting developing countries' sustainable development.
The document discusses biodiversity loss, climate change, and the role of the fashion industry. It provides the following key points:
1. Biodiversity loss and climate change pose severe risks to the global economy and companies. Land use change through agriculture is a major driver of biodiversity loss globally.
2. Tools from other sectors, like the mitigation hierarchy and biodiversity action plans, can be used to measure and improve the fashion industry's impact on biodiversity in locations where raw materials are sourced.
3. Science-based targets are being developed for biodiversity that companies can use to set targets aligned with global goals to protect ecosystems and species. Over 150 brands have pledged to develop biodiversity strategies
Community awareness is an effective means of achieving environmental sustainability post-COVID-19. The pandemic has shown the close connection between humanity and the planet. Community awareness empowers members to participate in sustainability efforts through education, engagement, and ownership of solutions. This involves raising awareness of issues like controlling deforestation to avoid disease transmission, encouraging sustainable consumption, and adopting sustainable practices. Sustainability ambassadors play a key role in driving community awareness efforts through leadership by example, community outreach, and self-development.

The Trillion Trees Initiative aims to significantly reduce global warming by planting billions or even trillions of trees worldwide. This will help reduce climate change effects like deforestation, droughts, and desertification. The initiative was founded in 2018 and seeks partners and investors to establish "Greening Camps" that will regenerate dry and degraded lands through forestation and planting soil-improving plants like desert bamboo and hemp. These camps will also support research and development of cleantech and greentech innovations to further environmental protection and sustainability goals.
The document discusses Rachel Carson and her efforts to protect the environment. It notes that she accomplished a lot in her life, including banning harmful toxins. It provides brief biographical details, noting she was born in 1907 in Pennsylvania and grew up on a farm, giving her first-hand knowledge of the environment. Her most significant contribution was publishing the book Silent Spring in 1962, which exposed the dangers of pesticides and helped launch the modern environmental movement.

Kinetic studies on malachite green dye adsorption from aqueous solutions by A...Open Access Research Paper
Water polluted by dyestuffs compounds is a global threat to health and the environment; accordingly, we prepared a green novel sorbent chemical and Physical system from an algae, chitosan and chitosan nanoparticle and impregnated with algae with chitosan nanocomposite for the sorption of Malachite green dye from water. The algae with chitosan nanocomposite by a simple method and used as a recyclable and effective adsorbent for the removal of malachite green dye from aqueous solutions. Algae, chitosan, chitosan nanoparticle and algae with chitosan nanocomposite were characterized using different physicochemical methods. The functional groups and chemical compounds found in algae, chitosan, chitosan algae, chitosan nanoparticle, and chitosan nanoparticle with algae were identified using FTIR, SEM, and TGADTA/DTG techniques. The optimal adsorption conditions, different dosages, pH and Temperature the amount of algae with chitosan nanocomposite were determined. At optimized conditions and the batch equilibrium studies more than 99% of the dye was removed. The adsorption process data matched well kinetics showed that the reaction order for dye varied with pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order. Furthermore, the maximum adsorption capacity of the algae with chitosan nanocomposite toward malachite green dye reached as high as 15.5mg/g, respectively. Finally, multiple times reusing of algae with chitosan nanocomposite and removing dye from a real wastewater has made it a promising and attractive option for further practical applications.
Improving the viability of probiotics by encapsulation methods for developmen...Open Access Research Paper
The popularity of functional foods among scientists and common people has been increasing day by day. Awareness and modernization make the consumer think better regarding food and nutrition. Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.

Microbial characterisation and identification, and potability of River Kuywa ...Open Access Research Paper
Water contamination is one of the major causes of water borne diseases worldwide. In Kenya, approximately 43% of people lack access to potable water due to human contamination. River Kuywa water is currently experiencing contamination due to human activities. Its water is widely used for domestic, agricultural, industrial and recreational purposes. This study aimed at characterizing bacteria and fungi in river Kuywa water. Water samples were randomly collected from four sites of the river: site A (Matisi), site B (Ngwelo), site C (Nzoia water pump) and site D (Chalicha), during the dry season (January-March 2018) and wet season (April-July 2018) and were transported to Maseno University Microbiology and plant pathology laboratory for analysis. The characterization and identification of bacteria and fungi were carried out using standard microbiological techniques. Nine bacterial genera and three fungi were identified from Kuywa river water. Clostridium spp., Staphylococcus spp., Enterobacter spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp. and Salmonella spp. Fungi were Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus flavus complex and Penicillium species. Wet season recorded highest bacterial and fungal counts (6.61-7.66 and 3.83-6.75cfu/ml) respectively. The results indicated that the river Kuywa water is polluted and therefore unsafe for human consumption before treatment. It is therefore recommended that the communities to ensure that they boil water especially for drinking.
Evolving Lifecycles with High Resolution Site Characterization (HRSC) and 3-D...Joshua Orris
The incorporation of a 3DCSM and completion of HRSC provided a tool for enhanced, data-driven, decisions to support a change in remediation closure strategies. Currently, an approved pilot study has been obtained to shut-down the remediation systems (ISCO, P&T) and conduct a hydraulic study under non-pumping conditions. A separate micro-biological bench scale treatability study was competed that yielded positive results for an emerging innovative technology. As a result, a field pilot study has commenced with results expected in nine-twelve months. With the results of the hydraulic study, field pilot studies and an updated risk assessment leading site monitoring optimization cost lifecycle savings upwards of $15MM towards an alternatively evolved best available technology remediation closure strategy.
Optimizing Post Remediation Groundwater Performance with Enhanced Microbiolog...Joshua Orris
Results of geophysics and pneumatic injection pilot tests during 2003 – 2007 yielded significant positive results for injection delivery design and contaminant mass treatment, resulting in permanent shut-down of an existing groundwater Pump & Treat system.
Accessible source areas were subsequently removed (2011) by soil excavation and treated with the placement of Emulsified Vegetable Oil EVO and zero-valent iron ZVI to accelerate treatment of impacted groundwater in overburden and weathered fractured bedrock. Post pilot test and post remediation groundwater monitoring has included analyses of CVOCs, organic fatty acids, dissolved gases and QuantArray® -Chlor to quantify key microorganisms (e.g., Dehalococcoides, Dehalobacter, etc.) and functional genes (e.g., vinyl chloride reductase, methane monooxygenase, etc.) to assess potential for reductive dechlorination and aerobic cometabolism of CVOCs.
In 2022, the first commercial application of MetaArray™ was performed at the site. MetaArray™ utilizes statistical analysis, such as principal component analysis and multivariate analysis to provide evidence that reductive dechlorination is active or even that it is slowing. This creates actionable data allowing users to save money by making important site management decisions earlier.
The results of the MetaArray™ analysis’ support vector machine (SVM) identified groundwater monitoring wells with a 80% confidence that were characterized as either Limited for Reductive Decholorination or had a High Reductive Reduction Dechlorination potential. The results of MetaArray™ will be used to further optimize the site’s post remediation monitoring program for monitored natural attenuation.

Trillion Trees Initiative Africa
„Climate protection, nature conservation and environmental protection is also
species protection.“
The Trillion Trees Initiative and Greening Camps can reduce negative climate changes, deforestation, droughts,
desertification, land degradation, floods and global warming worldwide – especially in human-made deserts, drylands and
wastelands.
The initiative was started by Oliver Gediminas Caplikas in 2017 and is connected with Greening Deserts economical,
educational, cultural, social, scientific and sustainable projects which really have big potential to reduce desertification and global
warming, to improve healthy environments, Cleantech and Greentech developments, sustainable agriculture
(EcoFarming) and ecological forestry (EcoForestry). Together with many innovative developments and sustainable
projects the initiative want to plant over 100 Billion Trees and support other big tree planting actions to reach the trillion trees
goal fast and efficient. Project developments like Agrophotovoltaik, Desert Bamboo Africa, Greening Coasts, Greening
Drones, Greenhouse Ship, Green Ring Africa, Great Green Wall North Africa, Seeding Balloon and Transparent Solar Greenhouses
can support. The official Trillion Trees Initiative (TTI) is really unique, because the members of the connected projects can
cultivate, sow and plant many trees directly with the help of greening camps, balloons, greening buses or trucks, drones and
planes – if seeds need to be covered by soil we will use seed balls.
This Trillion Trees Initiative not only supports other tree planting organisations. Other trillion trees initiatives write that they
planted millions of trees or want to plant a trillion trees. It is not realistic that just one nation or organisation will plant a trillion
trees in the next decades, as some of these initiatives claim. In fact many of them have not planted any trees themselfs and they
wont if you take a closer look. In some cases their partners or supporters are big polluters or questionable industries who try to
do greenwashing or treewashing. They let others do that work, mostly by cheap workers and volunteers. In general it is ok if
others will be supported to plant new trees, but pay them good money if they do important work for biodiversity and
environmental protection ! To plant just trees is not enough, there are so many things to consider. To plant countless
monocultures or monotonous tree plantations has nothing to do with biodiversity conservation, ecological forestry, ethical
business or fair trade. They do or will do more damages as improvements, especially if too much trees will be planted in ancient
grasslands, savannas or wetlands. The main goal should be to stop deforestation, to improve ecosystem restoration and
supporting the regeneration of existing natural forests which were affected by fires or pollution. To all that companies and groups
out there ! Join our real climate, environmental and species protection initiative if you really want to improve the worldwide
climate and environments. Many institutions, organisations and people were informed during the years, especially about the
backgrounds and true history of the real Trillion Trees Initiative.
The truth is that several nations, institutions and organisations adopted many ideas of Greening Deserts and connected projects
like the Trillion Trees Initiative. The history and timeline shows exactly who first had which ideas and who first started
developments or projects in this relation. It is doubtful that a single nation or organization will plant a billion trees, as some of
them claim. We the humanity and all nations can be happy if we reach the goal togehter to increase the global forest cover by
one trillion trees until 2050 ! Greening Deserts principles and the real Trillion Trees Initiative (TTI) agreeing with the sustainable
3. goals and scientific parts of the Trillion Tree Campaign by Plant for the Planet, the One Trillion Trees Initiative by the World
Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the Trillion Trees Partnership by TrillionTrees.org, Birdlife and WWF. TTI is not directly related to
the mentioned organizations but supports some of the good goals and advises against bad goals or shows good alternatives.
Greening Deserts and TTI supporting also other conservation organizations and tree planting actions by good examples and ideas.
How everybody can see the others took many of the ideas in their programs or agendas. There is also criticism of some points in
the Trillion Trees Act and other campaigns or initiatives. On the official pages here you can read about the backgrounds, facts and
worldwide opinions of different media outlets, conservation organizations and institutions.
We want to be honest and work transparent, we can plant millions or even some billions of trees ourselfs with the help of
mentioned projects and tools. Even the future staff of the Trillion Trees Initiative can plant a lof of trees and we can connect
many awesome tree planting projects from around the world — the case we will get enough financial support. The goal of the
initiative, partners and connected projects is to plant up to 100 billion trees, especially in Africa, Europe and India. So far as
possible only native species will be planted, biodiversity experts and indigenous people will be included. We respect indigenous
people who protect approx 80% of the world’s remaining forest biodiversity, including cultural, spiritual, social and environmental
values. If Greening Deserts projects and the official Trillion Trees Initiative get enough financial support and can generate good
income by the greening and research camps, developments and products, we can share much better our experiences with
learning materials, various media, online or offline courses, workshops, etc.. The camps and projects can provide much work,
generate a lot of jobs and income for each region. With appropriate funding and constructive support we can accelerate or
improve the project developments and team building for each camp, as well as the whole infrastructure. Without money it is not
possible to build up any of these camps and with too less support it needs many years more as planned, in this case other tree
cultivation and tree planting projects cannot really be supported. We have not that time to wait longer and longer for all that
promised support by officials or politicans. The projects need this year finally real active and financial support or it maybe will be
too late. If you know the real backgrounds because of the keystone species, accelerating mass extinction and tipping points,.. you
understand why we must act now or fast as possible. We must put these important points of species protection on the first place
of all ‘green agendas’, whether it is the Green Deal, Greening Act, Trillion Trees Act or UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
Over 20.000 institutions, organisations and personalities were invited to join the official Trillion Trees Initiative during the last
years. Many academics, ambassadors, environmentalists, developers, entrepreneurs, ministers, researchers or scientists and
students showed interest. Most of them liked the ideas and developments of Greening Deserts and the Trillion Trees Initiative.
Even some people of the EU Commission, UN and WHO became inspired by the initiative. It is sad that some conservation and
environmental organistations ignored Greening Deserts and the Trillion Trees Initiative, even after several friendly contact
requests. We all should act and work together, but the society and world shows that it is not so easy, especially in these times of
the crises, egoism, fears, ignorance and misunderstanding.
Just imagine all that actions, the attention and financial support in the Corona Crisis would be used to reduce the Climate Crisis.
We really would change the world into a better one, prevent new crises, disasters and even new pandemics who are caused by
environmental pollution, species extinction and weak environments. Climate adaption, global warming mitigration, ecological
education, environmental resilience and species protection is now more important as ever before. Climate protection, nature
conservation and environmental protection is also species protection – so it is human protection.
“We’re not just fighting an epidemic; we’re fighting an infodemic,” said World Health Organization director general Tedros
Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Over 10,000 of approx 60,000 tree species worldwide are threatened with extinction.
On the IUCN Red List over 1,400 tree species are listed as Critically Endangered (CR), in reality it are probably much more.
Biodiversity, conservation and reforestation programs should care more about these critically endangered and keystone species.
4. The Trillion Trees Initiative and Greening Camps in concerned regions could recultivate the critically endangered trees species.
Each camp will have extra greenhouses and storage rooms for the seeds. Botanical gardens and other biodiversity projects can be
connected.
The Critically Endangered Species Research and Protection Program (CES-RPP) will connect arborists, biodiversity experts, climate
scientists, conservationists, natives, indigenous people, professionals and students. They can help us to find the most endangered
species for the environmental greening and species protection actions. Together with AI, GIS and plant databases we can find and
select the right trees and plant species for each region, habitat, climate or vegetation zone where we will start with greening and
reforestation. School classes and volunteers can join the actions, they can learn a lot and use the camp area with botanical
gardens, greenhouses, media room, workshops, etc. – even army troops can support the tree planting actions like scouts and
rangers. They will do something real usefull and have good training courses. Many nations adopted that idea which was published
by Greening Deserts in 2017. People from the region are also welcome to use the public offers and spaces at the camp. The
lounge, media room and open outdoor areas invite to exchange with each other. The concept to connect culture, economy,
science and society into the greening process with professional greening and research camps was developed during years. Many
of the sustainable developments and projects are unique. Parts of the concept have great potential for refugee camps,
greenhouses and community gardens for the refugees were demanded several times since 2016. We are happy if others became
or become inspired to do something good for the nature and humanity.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese proverb

Facts, findings, opinions and studies about tree planting actions, campaigns and initiatives
Afforestation and reforestation are often highly desirable. Planting trees can restore land that has been deforested, especially if it
is restored as a diverse, multi-species, un-managed forest similar to natural ones, and not as a monoculture of managed
plantations. Restored “natural” forests promote biodiversity and limit extinction risk for many species, reduce soil erosion,
improve …
