Doug Woodring, Executive Director of Project Kaisei, explains his organization's mission and that although the media's focus is on the North Pacific Gyre, the real issue is a wake up call to the way we use materials in our daily lives, and how those impact our environment. Listen to Doug as he shares stories and pictures from their ocean voyages out to the gyre, equipment used, plastic samples collected, wildlife impacts, and how they're creating a global collaborative effort with science, technology, innovation, policy and education to help bring solutions to both products and how we use them. This Earth Day, We are launching an ambitious goal of achieving global climate and environmental literacy by Earth Day 2020. Education is the foundation for progress. We need to build a global citizenry, which is fluent in the concepts of climate change, and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with knowledge to act in defense of environmental protection.
