11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Thirty six children aged 4 to 6 years attend our
public pre-primary school (nipiagogio). There is a
number of children with learning difficulties (5
children) .
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
We follow the Greek national curriculum for the pre-primary level
that has been developed by the Education Policy Institute. The
objective of the Greek Nipiagogio (Kindergarten) is to give an equal
opportunity to all young children to develop physically, emotionally,
mentally and socially within the framework defined by the broader
objectives of Primary and Secondary education. Specifically,
Nipiagogio helps young children:
To develop their senses and organize their motor and cognitive
abilities
To enrich and enable each child to make sense of the experiences
deriving from their physical and social environment and to acquire
the ability to distinguish the relationships and interactions existing in
it.
To develop the ability to understand and express themselves through
symbols generally and especially in the fields of language,
mathematics and arts.
To create interpersonal relations which will assist their gradual and
harmonious integration in the life of the community.
To develop initiatives freely and easily within the framework of the
organized environment and to become accustomed to the give-and-
take relationship between the individual and the group.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Based on the developmental needs and the learning abilities
of the kindergarten child, the Kindergarten Curriculum places
an emphasis on oral communication and, at the same time,
aims at instilling in the young learners a sense of pride, love
and respect for the Greek cultural heritage.
The Kindergarten Curriculum is divided into 13 units. Each
unit consists of the following: the general goal, the objective
of each lesson, recommended activities and materials, basic
vocabulary, phrases for oral communication practice, and a
vast list of resources (songs, poems, stories and games) to
help teachers introduce each unit.
Teachers are advised to use the Curriculum as a “guide.”
They may adapt it to the particular needs and abilities of
their students and use various resources to achieve the
general goal and the learning objectives of each lesson.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Our school plans, organises and conducts
activities to support our pupils to develop a
wide variety of skills including speech,

interaction.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION

Environmental Education programmes as
well as Health and Artistic programmes
and cooperated in various projects.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Our pre-primary school collaborates with higher
education institutes such as the University of Crete and
Natural History Museum of Crete. Last year our teachers
worked on a project about volcano and earthquakes .

project, funded by the Civil Protection 2010 call of EU
and was coordinated by the Natural History Museum

Our Aim is to expose children to the kind of stimulating
experiences which promote healthy mental growth, great
freedom to be and overall personality development
There is constant research and improvement in the
content and methods of teaching.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Shows and other entertainment are
arranged for children to reinforce concepts
learnt, themes, and life skills.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Use movement and music as learning tools wherever
possible. Small children need to move to learn, and
move while they are learning.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
Young minds can absorb an amazing amount of information
and concepts, especially when they are presented in a
positive manner and in a free atmosphere, full of fun.
Learning and Growing should be fun.
We at 11th Pre-Primary School therefore ensure that the
children are made to feel loved and really special. Every
opportunity to improve their self esteem and nourish their
growth is availed of. "GREAT SELF ESTEEM OF THE
CHILD" is our mission statement.
11TH NIPIAGOGIO CHANION
This new collaborative project is a challenge for us and
we are happy for it.
We are looking forward to share moments of creation,
collaboration, knowledge…
Our voyage has just begun…
