12. internet.org - Free Basic Services
Facebook’s Internet.org app and mobile
website provides access to free basic
internet services in markets where internet
access may be less affordable.
It allows people to browse selected health,
education, employment, finance, and
news websites — and much more —
without data charges.
Internet.org’s objectives are at the core of
Facebook’s mission: By giving more
people access to the internet, the world
becomes more open and connected.
13. Participation Guidelines
Explore the entire internet Internet.org aims to give people valuable free services that they can
use to discover the entire wealth of online services. Services should encourage the exploration of the
broader internet wherever possible.
Efficiency To sustainably deliver free basic internet services to people, we need to build services that
use data very efficiently. Operators have made significant economic investments to bring the internet
to people globally, and Internet.org needs to be sustainable for operators so that they can continue to
invest in the infrastructure to maintain, improve and expand their networks.Websites that require
high-bandwidth will not be included.
Technical specifications Websites must be built to be optimized for browsing on both feature and
smartphones and in limited bandwidth scenarios. In addition, websites must be properly integrated
with Internet.org to allow zero rating.
14. Technical Guidelines
In order to make your website display properly within the Internet.org platform and be accessible to
people on all types of phones and data plans, your mobile website(s) must meet certain technical
conditions created by the Internet.org proxy. Specifically, mobile websites should work in the absence
of:
• JavaScript
• SVG images andWOFF font types
• SSL/TLS
• iframes
• Video and large images
• Flash and Java applets
