4.  Don’t know the meaning of _____________?
 Wish you knew what the writer is trying to
say? Unfortuntaley, a poor vocabulary will
hamper your GP proficiency for both Papers 1
and 2. An essay with overly simple
expressions is not likely to impress.
Attempting Paper 2 without being able to
comprehend all the meanings of the various
words used by the writer is a battle half-lost.
Having a strong vocabulary is a must.

5. Think your sentences are properly formed?
Check again! Grammar is the rule which
dictates how sentences should be like.
Poor grammar means poor command of
the language, which is a big no-no!

6. Wrong word usage used in the wrong
context can greatly alter or distort the
meaning of what you are trying to convey.
The beauty of words and the precise
nature of how to employ them in your GP
writing makes all the difference.

7. Who has time for reading newspapers
right? Unfortunately, you will need relevant
examples, by hook or by crook. An essay
without examples/ statistics/ quotations will
sound mundane at best, uncredible at
worst. If you want to show that you are a
great GP candidate, you will need to load
up on examples!

8. Some students simply panic during the
paper. Not finishing your AQ is a oft-quoted
struggle for many JC students. If you find
yourself struggling with time management
during your GP exams, you are in danger
of shortchanging yourself because you did
not even get the chance to attempt the
questions!

10. Whoever said studying for GP is all about
memorizing new vocabulary and
examples? Discuss with fellow students to
make learning both enjoyable and
effective. Share with others something
interesting you picked up on the Internet,
and enjoy information tidbits shared by

meaningful and useful for GP.

11. It’s a cliché, but practice does make
perfect, especially in grammar. Practice
enough and find yourself becoming
accustomed to the rules of English.
Vocabulary practice will also help you learn
how to use words appropriately and
accurately!

12. GP tuition is a time to be immersed in
English. During lessons, students are only
allowed to use perfect English! You may
find it uncomfortable initially, but we
promise, it’s all for your own good! Speak
good English in your daily life, and
reproduce that during the exams.
