In February 2013, the Minnesota state budget forecast a $627 million shortfall for FY 2014-2015; however, new revenue from tax increases was anticipated to cover this deficit. State funding for higher education, represented by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), has drastically decreased over the past decade, leading to a reversal in the funding relationship between state appropriations and tuition. The upcoming legislative session will focus on bonding requests and increased funding support for higher education, including a $250 million investment aimed at various initiatives and projects.
