Built on sector best practice and NCVO's rich history of organisational support, the Governance Wheel provides a clear framework for boards to assess and demonstrate the effectiveness of their governance. This interactive workshop will make sure your organisation thrives, has a clear direction and successfully meets your mission.
- Show of hands – get a feel for the audience. Could ask for feedback on using the Code i.e. the actual process of review
- Different versions of the Code
- My experience of healthchecks………. Tutu Foundation, WAY, etc
- On your tables, chose one principle to discuss (or more if there is time) Review your organisation against that principle, taking into account the questions at the top of the principle and the description of the journey of change Be prepared to feed back Feedback questions: - how did you organisation fare? - were other on your table facing the same issues as you? - did the Wheel help you to focus on the right issues? - was it user-friendly?
- On your table, using your conclusions from the previous exercise, start to think about the actions you could take to address theses issues. Feedback questions: - which actions did you think of? - was the Wheel helpful in this process? Comments – Wheel – as useful as a process as an assessment tool. About the discussion and reaching a shared understanding/agreement and well as the actual assessment. Important to use this as a basis for improvement. Re-do periodically. Might be worse - normal in the lifecycle of any organisation. Discuss why this is the case.
