This document contains passages from the Gospel of John that discuss Jesus' metaphor of himself as the true vine. 18. But what happens when we live God’s way?
He brings gifts into our lives, much the same
way that fruit appears in an orchard-things
like affection for others, exuberance about
life, serenity. We develop a willingness to
stick with things, a sense of compassion in
the heart, and a conviction that a basic
holiness permeates things and people.

19. We find ourselves involved in loyal
commitments, not needing to force our way
in life, able to marshal and direct our
energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in
bringing this about; it only gets in the way.
Among those who belong to Christ,
everything connected with getting our own
way and mindlessly responding to what
everyone else calls necessities is killed off for
good-crucified.

all you need. My strength comes into its own
in your weakness. Once I heard that, I was
glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the
handicap and began appreciating the gift. It
was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on
my weakness. Now I take limitations in
stride, and with good cheer, these limitations
that cut me down to size - abuse, accidents,
opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take
over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I
become. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

31. If I had not come and spoken to them, they
would not be guilty of sin. Now, however,
they have no excuse for their sin. He who
hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not
done among them what no one else did, they
would not be guilty of sin. But now they have
seen these miracles, and yet they have hated
both me and my Father.

32. But this is to fulfill what is written in
