He knows us far better than we know ourselves,
knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us
present before God. That’s why we can be so sure
that every detail in our lives of love for God is
worked into something good. God knew what he
was doing from the very beginning. He decided
from the outset to shape the lives of those who
love him along the same lines as the life of his
Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity
he restored. We see the original and intended
shape of our lives there in him.
Romans 8: 27-29
The Message
“Joy is the settled assurance that
God is in control of all the details of
my life, the quiet confidence that
ultimately everything is going to be
alright, and the determined choice
to praise God in every situation.”
Rick Warren defines “Joy”
(See what sort of love the Father has given to
us: that we should be called God’s children—
and indeed we are! For this reason the world
does not know us: because it did not know
him. Dear friends, we are God’s children now,
and what we will be has not yet been
revealed. We know that whenever it is
revealed we will be like him, because we will
see him just as he is. And everyone who has
this hope focused on him purifies himself, just
as Jesus is pure).
1 John 2:1-3
“There are many who absent themselves from the
conversation so that they can go off by themselves
and develop a Rube Goldberg religious contraption
out of God-fragments or God-rumors picked up in
back alleys, flea markets, and talk shows – a kind of
makeshift, do-it-yourself belief (or unbelief) system
that suits their particular lifestyle. Others impatient
with the complexities and ambiguities in the
conversation set themselves up as freelance
connoisseurs of transcendence, searching out
experiences of ecstasy, taking photographs of
sunsets, collecting books and music that inspire”.
