In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

4. Tolerance: Good or Bad?
• Faith requires an object
• Similarly tolerance requires an object
• Ask yourself if tolerance is good or bad in each
circumstance;
• Pedophilia, abortion
• A spouse who leaves the toilet seat up
• A burglar in your home
• Someone’s music is too loud
• Felony child abuse
• Neighbors un-mown lawn
• Human sex trafficking 4
5. Tolerance: is Good!
• NAU Romans 14:1 Now accept the one who is weak in
faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his
opinions. 2 One person has faith that he may eat all things,
but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 The one who
eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not
eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one
who eats, for God has accepted him. 4 Who are you to
judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands
or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him
stand. 5 One person regards one day above another,
another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully
convinced in his own mind.
5
6. Tolerance: is Bad!
• NAU 1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do
with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those
who are within the church? 13 But those who
are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED
MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.
• NAU 1 Corinthians 5:5 I have decided to deliver
such a one to Satan for the destruction of his
flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day
of the Lord Jesus.
6
7. Tolerance: is Bad!
• NAU 1 Timothy 1:20 …Alexander, whom I have handed over to
Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.
• NAU Jude 1:3 …appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith
which was once for all handed down to the saints.
• NAU Matthew 23:15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make
one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as
much a son of hell as yourselves.
• Acts 13:9-11 …Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit… said, "You who are
full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all
righteousness… the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be
blind and not see the sun for a time…
• Acts 5:3-10, Matthew 23:13-29, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
7
8. John 14:15, Lordship Salvation?
• NAU John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My
commandments.
• NAU John 14:21-23 "He who has My commandments
and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who
loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love
him and will disclose Myself to him.”…
• NAU John 15:10 "If you keep My commandments,
you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My
Father's commandments and abide in His love.
• NAU John 15:14 "You are My friends if you do what I
command you. 8
10. John 14:15, Lordship Salvation?
• Some Bible teachers now make a huge distinction between
“believers” and “disciples”.
• NAU 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
• NAU Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, "I have cleansed my heart, I
am pure from my sin?
• NAU 1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were
washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the
name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
• NAU 1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to
you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an
Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

11. Question: "What is the difference
between a Christian and a disciple?",
gotquestions.org
• Answer: The terms disciple and Christian are related but not synonymous.
• The Greek term for “disciple” in the New Testament is mathetes, which means more than just “student” or “learner.” A
disciple is a “follower,” someone who adheres completely to the teachings of another, making them his rule of life and
conduct. The Pharisees prided themselves in being disciples of Moses (John 9:28). Jesus’ followers were called
“disciples” long before they were ever called “Christians.” Their discipleship began with Jesus’ call and required them to
exercise their will to follow Him (Matthew 9:9).
• Jesus was quite explicit about the cost of following Him. Discipleship requires a totally committed life: “Any of you who
does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:33). Sacrifice is expected: “Jesus said to his disciples,
‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’” (Matthew 16:24).
• Not all of Jesus’ followers were able to make such a commitment. There were many who left Jesus after a while. “From
this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him” (John 6:66).
• Jesus used the term disciple but never Christian. The first instance of the word Christian is found in the book of Acts:
“The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). Most Bible scholars agree that it is unlikely that the
believers themselves thought up the name “Christians.” The early church had other names for themselves, such as
“disciples” (Acts 13:52; 20:1; 21:4) and “saints” (Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 16:1; Ephesians 1:1) and “brothers” (1
Corinthians 1:9; 1 Peter 3:8).
• The name “Christian,” meaning “belonging to Christ,” appears to have been invented by those outside of the church. It
was most likely meant as a derogatory term. Only two other times does the word appear in the New Testament (Acts
26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). The idea that the term Christian was originally a pejorative finds some support in 1 Peter 4:16:
“However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.”
• Biblically speaking, a Christian is a disciple of Christ. A Christian is someone who has placed his faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ (John 1:12). A Christian has been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3:3). A Christian “belongs to
Christ” and is daily being transformed into the likeness of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).
• A true Christian (and not one in name only) will have to be a disciple of Christ as well. That is, he has counted the cost

12. John 14:15, Yoga; Can Swearing
Make You More Relaxed?
• In a pub in Calgary, Canada, yoga enthusiasts are encouraged to [partake in] a new twist on an ancient art:
Rage Yoga. This new concept takes the quiet, zen-like environment of a yoga class and flips it on its head—
those who attend the classes are encouraged to swear and shout between poses, and stick around
afterwards for a beer. Creator Lindsay Istace, 24, who teaches flexibility and wellness, stumbled upon the
idea of releasing her anger with her asanas (yoga poses, postures and positions) after a bad breakup. “I was
in a really rough spot,” Istace explained. “I was very hurt and angry and confused.” She found she was
inadvertently incorporating expletives into her daily yoga practice. Research led by psychologist Dr.
Richard Stephens at Keele University in the UK showed that swearing can help you become more
persuasive and increase pain tolerance, particularly for those who seldom swear in everyday life. The
reason? Swearing seems to trigger the “fight or flight” stress response.
• -www.bbc.com, 5 April 2016
• Arno Froese <info@midnightcall.com Commentary: Human values in a civilized society are being trod
underfoot. The yoga religion has conquered the world, often even offered in churches. Granted, this
particular form of it is the exception, but it does show the tenacity of religion, without morals and decency.
The Bible warns, “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things
ought not so to be” (James 3:10). David writes about his enemies, “As he loved cursing, so let it come unto
him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him” (Psalm 109:17), and Psalm 59:12 and 14
reads, “For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for
cursing and lying which they speak…And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog,
and go round about the city.” (For more on yoga, read Yoga and the Body of Christ, Item 2224.) 6252

13. John 14:15, Keep The Law?
• NAU John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep
[Moses] My commandments.
• Very many Christians arbitrarily divide the law of
Moses into civil, ceremonial, and moral Law. It seems
to me that they kind of pick through to decide what
part of the law they feel we are under, and should
keep, and which to ignore.
• First century Jews, and the early church, would never
have dreamed that there were parts of the law of
God that you could completely ignore. And arbitrarily
choose which parts to obey. The Bible never teaches 1

14. John 14:15
Under The Whole Law
• Those under the law are under the whole Law;
• NAU James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet
stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
• NAU Matthew 5:18 …not the smallest letter or stroke shall
pass from the Law until all is accomplished.19 "Whoever then
annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches
others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of
heaven…
• NAU Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the
Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS
EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN

John 14:15 Galatians 2:20 1 Peter 4:16 Acts 11:26, disciples called Christians in Antioch, gotquestions.org
Answer: The terms disciple and Christian are related but not synonymous.
The Greek term for “disciple” in the New Testament is mathetes, which means more than just “student” or “learner.” A disciple is a “follower,” someone who adheres completely to the teachings of another, making them his rule of life and conduct. The Pharisees prided themselves in being disciples of Moses (John 9:28). Jesus’ followers were called “disciples” long before they were ever called “Christians.” Their discipleship began with Jesus’ call and required them to exercise their will to follow Him (Matthew 9:9).
Jesus was quite explicit about the cost of following Him. Discipleship requires a totally committed life: “Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:33). Sacrifice is expected: “Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’” (Matthew 16:24).
Not all of Jesus’ followers were able to make such a commitment. There were many who left Jesus after a while. “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him” (John 6:66).
Jesus used the term disciple but never Christian. The first instance of the word Christian is found in the book of Acts: “The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). Most Bible scholars agree that it is unlikely that the believers themselves thought up the name “Christians.” The early church had other names for themselves, such as “disciples” (Acts 13:52; 20:1; 21:4) and “saints” (Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 16:1; Ephesians 1:1) and “brothers” (1 Corinthians 1:9; 1 Peter 3:8).
The name “Christian,” meaning “belonging to Christ,” appears to have been invented by those outside of the church. It was most likely meant as a derogatory term. Only two other times does the word appear in the New Testament (Acts 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). The idea that the term Christian was originally a pejorative finds some support in 1 Peter 4:16: “However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.”
Biblically speaking, a Christian is a disciple of Christ. A Christian is someone who has placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12). A Christian has been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3:3). A Christian “belongs to Christ” and is daily being transformed into the likeness of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).
A true Christian (and not one in name only) will have to be a disciple of Christ as well. That is, he has counted the cost and has totally committed his life to following Jesus. He accepts the call to sacrifice and follows wherever the Lord leads. The Christian disciple completely adheres to the teaching of Jesus, makes Christ his number-one priority, and lives accordingly. He is actively involved in making other Christian disciples (Matthew 28:19–20).
A true Christian disciple is a believer in Christ and possesses new life through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Because he loves Christ, a Christian will also be an obedient disciple (John 14:15). Paul describes the reality of being a Christian disciple: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
