Google Wave is a real-time communication and collaboration platform that combines features of email, instant messaging, wikis, web chat, and social networking. It allows users to see edits being made in real-time, embed conversations on websites, build custom applications, collaboratively edit content like a wiki, and share files and media.

5. Real-time: See what someone else is typing, character-by-character. Embeddability: Waves can be embedded on any blog or website. Applications and Extensions: Developers can build their own apps within waves.

6. Wiki functionality: Anything written within a Google Wave can be edited by anyone else, because all conversations within the platform are shared. Open source: The code will be open source, to foster innovation and adoption Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.

7. Natural language: Google Wave can autocorrect your spelling or auto-translate on-the-fly. Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access.

11. The beauty of Wave is that it is Open Source and already people are using the API to create wee gadgets. THIS voting gadget for example lends itself to traffic lighting/assessment.

Closed note labels The screen shows the trial Wave I started just to see how I could produce a wiki like interface which students could add to easily AND also have links, pictures and so forth readily available. The link in the right hand column takes them to the webpage. The wee blue balloons are extra information. For example here the blue balloon adds a comment that the witches are also known as the Weird Sisters. You can close all the balloons to let the kids work. They can add their own comments and any other definitions, pictures etc they might wish to add. They could even copy the whole wave to their own accounts and add their own individual notes.

18. Organizing events Keep a single copy of ideas, suggested itinerary, menu and RSVPs, rather than using many different tools. Use gadgets to add weather, maps and more to the event.

19. Meeting notes Prepare a meeting agenda together, share the burden of taking notes and record decisions so you all leave on the same page (we call it being on the same wave). Team members can follow the minutes in real time, or review the history using Playback. The conversation can continue in the wave long after the meeting is over.

20. Group reports and writing projects Collaboratively work in real time to draft content, discuss and solicit feedback all in one place rather than sending email attachments and creating multiple copies that get out of sync.

21. Brainstorming Bring lots of people into a wave to brainstorm - live concurrent editing makes the quantity of ideas grow quickly! It is easy to add rich content like videos, images, URLs or even links to other waves. Discussion ensues. Etiquettes form. Then work together to distill down to the good ideas.

22. Photo sharing Drag and drop photos from your desktop into a wave. Share with others. Use the slideshow viewer. Everyone on the wave can add their photos, too. It is easy to make a group photo album in Google Wave.
