Siddhant Agarwal provides an update on activities conducted from September 2014 to April 2015 and upcoming events from April 2015 to July 2015 as part of the 2014-15 Academic Year for the Google Student Ambassador program at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun. Several workshops and events were held on topics like Android Wear, Google Summer of Code, Google AdWords, Android app development, and Google Cloud Platform. Upcoming events include an Android Hackathon, mobile app development challenge, app expo, Google I/O extended event, cloud app challenge, Dehradun Hackathon, and an online Android app development hackathon expecting over 150 participants.

Events conducted till date (September 2014 - Current)
● 14 October 2014. UPES Google Hub Inauguration Ceremony, attended by 200 students
and 10 faculty and college management. The collegiate club was inaugurated by Chancellor
Dr. S.J. Chopra by unveiling GSA Logo. The session strongly focused on GSA program and
GSC activities to be conducted on campus.
● 31 October 2014. Session on Android Wear, attended by 80 students and 3 faculty. The
event was in collaboration with UPES Petrotech Student Chapter. Introductory session for
amateur and intermediate developers to cover basics of android wear UI and design
principles. 10 of these are interested in developing android apps for Android Wear.
● 5 November 2014. Run for Droid, attended by 103 students in teams of 3-5 each. The
event was in collaboration with UPES Petrotech Student Chapter. The framework of the
event consisted of four sets of checkpoint variations, nine riddle locations and seven
questions all of which were serially linked together with the help of Google Docs forms and
QR codes. Winning 3 teams were awarded suitably by the collaborating chapter.
● 13 November 2014. Workshop on Google Summer of Code, attended by 120 students.
The event was in collaboration with UPES SPE Student Chapter and taken by Mr. Aditya
Maheshwari, youngest mentor for GSoC 2012. 25 of them made GSoC Proposal for
Avocado App, and 5 of them got shortlisted by Avocado for mentorship. 25 of these
students are planning to register for Google Summer of Code this year.
● 13 February 2015. Google Online Marketing Challenge Awareness Session,
attended by 60 students and 2 faculty to make students aware about the avenues in Digital
Marketing and opportunities with taking part in GOMC. 30-40 students showed interest to
register as team for GOMC. Live hangout session by Mr. Nitesh Kumar (Ranked 4th
,
Business Finalist, GOMC 2014 to clear doubts regarding GOMC.
● 13-14 February 2015. Google AdClass for 50 students. 30 of them have passed the
fundamentals exam, and 15 of them are Google AdWords Individual Certified. 20 of them
are planning to incorporate Google AdWords and AdSense for GOMC and their personal
websites.
● 20-21 February 2015. CodeWorm: Android App Development Workshop and Challenge,
attended by 30 highly interested students and 2 faculty. The event was in collaboration with
UPES ASME Student Chapter and taken by Mr. Nishant Srivastava, Lead-Google
Developer Groups New Delhi to cover basics of Android App Development. 30 of them
developed apps, and 3 of them were shortlisted as winners of the app development
challenge. The event also got featured as one of the Top Stories in monthly GSA

● 27-28 March 2015. Androogle: Android UI/UX Workshop, attended by 30 highly
interested students. The event was in collaboration with UPES ACM Student Chapter and
taken by Mr. Nishant Srivastava, Lead-Google Developer Groups New Delhi to cover
advance level of Android App Development. 20 of them developed apps, and 20 of them
submit ideas for PMO App Contest.

2. ● 28 March 2015. Workshop on Google Cloud Platform, attended by 40 highly interested
students. The event was in collaboration with UPES ACM Student Chapter and taken by Mr.
Vikram Tiwari, Lead-Google Developer Groups New Delhi to cover basics of Google Cloud
Platform. 20 of them developed polymer app of their own.
● 27-28 March 2015. Product Showcase: Google Cardboard, attended by 120 students to
enable students understand the functioning of Google Cardboard and explore Virtual Reality
technology. 60 of them showed interest in purchasing Google Cardboard and develop
android apps for the cardboard.
Upcoming events (April 2015 -July 2015)
● April 2015. Android Hackathon led by GDG New Delhi and GSA to be conducted at NSIT,
Dwarka and inviting participants from all over the country. 70 students will attend.
● April 2015. Mobile App Development Challenge as Nationwide Challenge to submit
android apps focusing on UI/UX. Expecting 120+ entries.
● May 2015. App Expo to feature 10 apps being developed at Mobile App Development
Challenge in collaboration with GDG New Delhi. Collaborating with local startups in the
field.
● May 2015. Google I/O Extended On-Campus as well as in collaboration with GSAs from
Delhi.
● June 2015. Cloud App Development Challenge led by the local GDG. 50-60 students will
participate.
● June 2015. Dehradun Hackathon. Expecting 50 entries.
● July 2015. Nationwide online Hackathon for Android App Development (using
HackerEarth/Codechef). Expecting 150+ participation.
