Investigating The Energy Content Of Paraffin Essay
Introduction: The purpose of this lab was to determine the energy content of paraffin. This is done
by measuring heat combustion in kJ/g of fuel. It was also to compare experimental and theoretical
energy values as well as determine the specific heat of an unknown metal to identify it.
Results: When conducting part one of the experiment, Paraffin combustion, the candle melted
quickly and the flame atop the candle was very small. The wax pooled on top of the paraffin rather
than following the canal dug into the side. For the second part of the experiment, the specific heat of
an unknown metal, the thermometer spiked quickly and then slowly rose until it reached the peak
temperature of 24.6 degrees.

Comparing Frida And Pollock
The biographical films, Frida and Pollock both explore the lives of an artist and how their
conflicting life of illnesses and hardship influence their art. The text Frida explores an artist
named Frida Kahlo s controversial life and how her fertility struggles had an influence on her art
work, as well as other factors. Frida experienced a miscarriage, which resulted in emotional
agony to discover her son died. Fragile and angry, Frida painted herself lying naked on a hospital
bed covered in blood with six objects flying around her, one included the fetus of her dead son.
Frida used the painful experience and turned it into art. Her husband described her work as
agonized poetry on canvas. similarities in the text are displayed in Pollock. Jackson Pollock puts
his frustration into his artwork, after his wife tells him she will not have a baby with him.... Show

Art critic, Clement Greenberg, stated This is frustrate... why don t you do eight or ten of those to

Frida and Pollock both couldn t have children, under different circumstances which took a big toll
on their lives as it was important to them. This factor combined with the illnesses created an
arduous life for the two artists, but it resulted in masterpiece paintings. Painting helped their pain by
transcending it onto the canvas. This challenges viewers to think that negative occurrences in life
can be turned into something positive. Inspiration doesn t always come from a subject matter but it

The Theory Of International Relations Essay
Power and interests has always been the basis of the relationship among societies. As a result of the
quest along the history for the survival and development of the organized human groups around the
world, the international orders emerged to set how states relates to each other based on the amount
of power that they have and the interests they share at different moments of the history. With the
evolution of societies, international orders changes because of a major clash between great powers
where it is necessary a zero sum situation. To explain this, the paradigms of international relations
will be the main tool. The rise of an international order is a result of the accumulation of power
by a few big actors that are searching for hegemony. This is the idea that realist paradigm
proposes, and it is useful to understand how the countries related each other during the major
part of the history (from ancient times to middle age), where big empires and kingdoms divided
the globe. Anarchy is the natural state of things , and then power is the source of order that
allowed to the great powers to survive by taking resources from weak states under its protection.
Through the realist lens, great powers fought each other for raw materials and colonies, and the
actors (states) were personified by only one person (the emperor or king) using their big armies as
tool to impose only their interests. Alliances were a classical way of agreement, motivated only for
the need to balance power

Essay On Physics Of Complex Systems
One of the flourishing and fascinating research areas in physics nowadays is the physics of
complex systems, or the theory of complexity. There is not a single and straightforward meaning
associated with this buzzword due to its vagueness and polysemy, and very often it depends on the
context and the authors. Nevertheless, one of the interesting points are the tools and methods that
the theoryprovides that can be eventually applied to many different disciplines, ranging from
physics, chemistry, biology, applied sciences and even social sciences.
The main idea of complexity that the author uses in the present monograph stems from the
nonlinear interaction of the individual parts of a dynamical system and the different sizes of large ...

Most of the problems to which the author refers to constitute very recent research problems in the
field of space plasma, and the book contains at the end a very rich list of important references on
the field, that the author uses along the whole book.
The book is very well edited and it contains seven chapters, where key aspects of complexity theory
applied to space plasmas are discussed. It starts with an excellent introduction where the objectives
of the book are clearly outlined, and basically the rest of the chapters are devoted to either give the
terminology that it will be used in the next chapters, or to describe methods and different
applications. A second chapter deals extensively with the idea of dynamical criticality far from
equilibrium. The theory of self organized criticality is introduced and applied to different examples.
Interestingly, this theory helped to recognize the power law behaviour of the solar flares. Next,
under the title of physics of complexity, the author describes coherent structures and explores the
physical reasons of the origin of complexity in space plasmas. The next chapters deal with other
techniques such as probability distributions, wavelets, fractals, multifractal analysis, ending with a
final chapter on the dynamical renormalization group and its connection with criticality and
multifractals. The phenomenon of intermittency and fluid turbulence using these techniques are
also discussed. Including such topics as the

Biography Of Nicolaus Copernicus s Discovery Of...
Ages Through Science
In Latin America and Europe, people started to question the Catholic Church and began doubting if
the Church was abusing their power. After the Scientific Revolution, philosophical thinkers and
scientists discovered new theories, such as gravitational physics laws and other opinions written in
books. Nicolaus Copernicus s discovery of heliocentrism transformed astronomy, his writings
changed the people s perspective of the universe further challenging the Catholic Church s beliefs.
Before Copernicus, people made scientific discoveries such as Aristarchus of Samos (310 230
BCE), had already identified the sun as the central unit of the solar system, but his ideas were
quickly dismissed due to the overpower of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of his theory was correct, but one thing was incorrect, that being the path of orbit is
circular. People, during this time, were starting to break out of their shells and learning about
new things and ideas, but the Catholic Church, being the basis of life, disapproved. This shows
that people wanted to discover and educate themselves, but they couldn t with the church having
power over them. Since Aristarchus s theory was unprovable during that time since there were
no telescopes or satellites, the church quickly dismissed it. In the webpage, Nicolaus
Copernicus, it is stated that Aristarchus used the concept of parallax to show that the stars were a
very large distance from Earth and to do that he must have expanded the size of the universe
enormously. These ideas contradicted what the Bible said, so he was considered a sinner and
people didn t want to agree and fall into the bandwagon. Due to people s fear of the Church, many
people went against their will and didn t get a chance to discover. During Aristarchus s time,
people suppressed new ideas and became subjects of the church. On the other hand, Aristarchus
tried his best to be strong in his ideas, but he didn t survive. Another astronomer and mathematician
before Copernicus was Ptolemy (90 168 AD) who also formed incorrect theories and promoted the
Church s power over the people. In Nicolaus Copernicus Biography, Biography.com editiors wrote

How Does Berger Use American Apparel Images
In John Berger s Ways of Seeing he offers the idea that to be a woman has been to be born...into
the keeping of men. He illustrates on page 46, that women are born to satisfy men, at least in
terms of art for most European painters. He empathizes this point by pointing at nude portraits and
oil paintings. I decided to analyze my own choice of advertisement to compare his theory in the
modern world. I chose an American Appareladvertisement; the company has a history of invoking
reactions from the public. The advertisement does not require much analysis to cause offense to the
general viewer. American Apparel crosses the line in more ways than one. However, the
advertisement I chose was rather tame in comparison to many others I considered.... Show more

Gender Socialization And Gender Expectations In Children
Imagine a five year old girl, her birthday is a few weeks away and her mom is questioning her
about toys she would like to have. She tells her mom she wants a race track and the newest Hot
Wheels set. Her mother is quick discourage this request and suggests asking for something more
girly because race cars are for boys. The little girl is disappointed but abides by her mother s
request and instead asks for a new doll house. In our current culture, there is a huge difference
between what is considered to be for girls or boys. From birth, children are told what colors and
styles of clothing they wear, what toys they should play with, and emotions they should feel.
Often, girls are told they cannot play with toys considered to be for boys and boys are told they
are not allowed to play with toys considered to be for girls. Children who do decide they want to
play with the toys not traditionally for their gender are often scolded by family members, pushing
the children back to their gender specific toys. In early childhood the decisions that determine who
a child is to be are made by their parents or guardians. Gender socialization starts at birth and
continues from adolescence, to adulthood, causing specific and detrimental differences in the way
the genders behave. Before one can dissect gender socialization and gender roleexpectations in
children, they must understand what they are. According to the United Nations International
Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF),

Further thought and analysis leads one to believe that the benefits of a merger would far
outweigh the drawbacks such as less confusing regulations and better complaint/conflict
resolution processes. Such a move will also allow for more efficient operations with major
companies that currently have to deal with both the MFDA and the IIROC separately. For
example, where currently a company will have two separate departments dealing with both
agencies separately, in an environment where there is one merged agency there will only be a
need for one department. This is actually the case as the MFDA manages 139 firms, but 33 are
also supervised by IIROC because they trade both mutual funds and normal brokerage operations.
Simpler regulations will possibly see an increase in mutual fund investment if investors see the ease
of use factor involved.

Natural Hazards In California
Natural hazards are different natural phenomena that disrupt the usual live of a population, destroy
and demolish objects of material value. They often have a negative effect on nature, and can happen
anywhere in the world. Many different types of natural hazards exist; for example, earth quakes,
landslides, floods, snow drifts, hurricanes, droughts, volcano eruptions, storms, etc. Natural hazards
can happen independently or can be related to each other. If there is an earthquake, it can lead to a
tsunami or massive fires. Some of them happen as a result of mankind s doings; construction work,
depending on the location, can cause snow drifts, or massive fires.

The rich know nothing if the trials of the poor; (Mary Barton) This quote stuck out to me because
in the book it seemed to talk a lot about how the rich benefited the most from what the poor did.
This in turn created areas in the city that were mostly poor. Once these people were in this part of

Argumentative Essay On Dance Fusion
On November 11, 2017 I went to dance fusion. Dance fusion is a show put on by college kids from
the Collin college Spring Creek Campus. Along with dancers from the university of Texas at
Arlington, University of Central Oklahoma and Texas Woman s University. Upon entering the john
Anthony Theatre, I noticed that many of the other students also watching the show had brought
notebooks to take notes on what they had seen, and I had not even thought about that. At first, I

lower quality trucks and wheels. This does not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was

A Study Of African History
Many people think slavery happened after a group of explores from Portuguese started ring the
coast of West Africa, but little do they know African Americans were trading themselves way before
then. Portuguese explorer Prince Henry, known as the navigator, was the first European to
methodically explore Africaand the oceanic to the Indies.[1] Many Europeans thought that Africa s
history was not important. They argued that Africans were inferior to Europeans and they used this
to help justify slavery. However, the reality was very different. A study of African history shows
that Africa was by no means inferior to Europe. As you can see below, the people who suffered
the most from the transatlantic slave trade were civilized, organised and technologically advanced
peoples, long before the arrival of European slavers, trying to suggest they were backward
peoples.[2]
A major advance was the introduction of the caravel in the mid 15th century, a small ship able to
sail windward more than any other in Europe at the time. Evolved from fishing ships designs, they
were the first that could leave the coastal cabotage navigation and sail safely on the open. For
celestial navigation the Portuguese used the Ephemerides, which experienced a remarkable
diffusion in the 15th century. They were astronomical charts plotting the location of the stars over a
distinct period of time. These charts revolutionized navigation, allowing to calculating latitude.

The United Open Door Immigration Policy
As tension in Syria and the surrounding regions intensifies, more and more refugees are fleeing to
Europe seeking asylum; however, the countries they are entering are experiencing many adverse
side effects; such as, social unrest, sexual assaults, and terrorist attacks. It is unacceptable for the
children in these nations to have to grow up in a nation they once called home and felt safe in but
now no longer has that feeling. The same argument could be made for the refugees and that is why
the current open door immigrationpolicy that Angela Merkel has in effect must be remedied. The
goal of a refugeeis to escape war that they and their families can live safely without worry of
being killed. Not to change the ways of the nation they are entering and treat the locals with disdain
for their differences in ideology, dress, culture and even diet. The host nation of a large number of
refugees should not have to change their way of life to accommodate those seeking refuge. It
should be the other way around. Assimilation is the goal, not disintegration of native culture. A
policy which allows radical Muslims to immigrate into the country and then face punishment only
after the damage from their actions has been done is grossly illogical and insufficient for the
preservation of a nation s security. Preventative measures must be put in place.

Treatment Of Women In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare obtains various interpretations that are
viewed as debatable. The novel involves men attempting to ask for Baptista s blessing to marry his
youngest daughter, Bianca. However, the oldest daughter Katherine was not fancied by most men
because of her blunt personality and feisty attitude. Many readers, especially feminists, argue that
the Taming of the Shrewrevolves around the idea of how men oppress women by the way men find
Kat s attitude as unappealing, how Petruchio attempts to tame Kat, and at the end of the novel when
the three married men challenge each other to see which wife is the most obedient.
Kehler s Statement on What is Expected of Women The youngest sister, Bianca, was adored by

Absolute Value Of Being A Real Estate Agent
Absolute value can be used in a variety of ways in real life occupations like a real estate agent.
Absolute value is important because if a number does not work because it s negative, absolute
value is used to make the number positive. Out of many job possibilities, I chose a real estate agent
because it uses absolute value the most in the job with things like measuring distances and financial
transactions. A real estateagent, by definition, is a person who sells and rents out buildings and
land for clients This job is important because real estate agents are the reason something has an
address and people have ever rented, bought, or sold homes. The following essay will discuss how
being a real estate agent is important to everyday life and uses... Show more content on

The first way is that they need to know measuring distances. Real estate agents need this for
tasks like placing for sale or open house signs in the perfect spot, taking pictures to make the
house look appealing to a buyer, measuring the rooms of home, and to know how far away the
house is from main places like a school. The last reason math is needed is for financial transactions.
This task is a necessity for selling, buying, or renting a house, or estimating costs of a home,
renovations or updates, and furniture.
To be a real estate agent, you have to have loads of requirements. One essential education
requirement is at least a high school diploma. So, no college is required but you probably have a
better chance at the job with college. Also, a real estate agent needs to have licenses for the state
they work in. Your state requires a specific number of hours of coursework or written or hands on
work in order to get your license.
Real estate agents are needed and can be quite helpful when in the market for a new home or trying
to sell yours. In all, this occupation is very useful and without it, the property market would be a

Bird And Magic Johnson In The Myth Of The Amateurs
In Yago ColГЎs s The Myth of the Amateurs, he explores the fascinating racial dynamic the
pairing of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson represented. On the surface, this white and black pair was
worlds apart, as ColГЎs pointed out the shy and reserved Bird was praised...for his effort,
concentration, guts, and unselfishness (89), compared to the outgoing and perpetually smiling,
Johnson, who became the embodiment of Showtime (90). However, Bird and Johnson weren t
actually all that different both were playmaking, intelligent, flashy, players who were small
town boys...still close to [their] families...teachers...former coaches...and the people [they] grew

summarized by Billy Hoyle, the main protagonist of the film: A white man wants to win, then
look good. A black man wants to look good, then win (1:10:50). On the surface, his claim is not too
far fetched. Although we see Billy s fair share of flashy plays, like no look backwards passes

Self Reliance Is Beneficial Or Beneficial
An issue regarding thinking has been on the importance of self reliance, the notion of relying on
oneself for ideas and knowledge. Some people argue that self reliance is harmful. From this
perspective, self reliance generates bad thoughts and ideas, and people should conform to society
instead. However, others argue that self reliance is extremely important for society. Ralph Waldo
Emerson, a main proponent of this view, says that To believe your own thought, to believe that
what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men that is genius (1). According to this
view, relying on one s own ideas is genius, and it is much smarter to practice self reliance rather
than conform to society s ideas. In sum, then, the issue is whether self reliance is beneficial or not
beneficial. My view is that self reliance is beneficial. Though I concede that at times it may be a
good ideato agree with the majority, I still maintain that one s own ideas are much better than
those of the majority almost all of the time. Although some people think that the majority opinion
is usually correct, I claim that the notion of self reliance is beneficial because individuals should
rely on their own knowledge gained from life experience to create new and better ideas, which
cause society to move forward and become better than it was before.
Self reliance is beneficial because individuals create ideas that are better compared to those of the
majority. Emerson explains the importance of

Keats And Finch And The Nightingale
In literature, it is generally agreed that The Nightingale invites the beholder to explore something
beyond the merely human . Both Keats and Finch imitate this concept in Ode to a Nightingale and
To the Nightingale by using poetic form and language to show the qualities of a bird that inspires
them to look beyond the physical and in Finch s case, challenge the confines of human restriction
whilst asserting poetryas a human necessity.
Keats was a key figure in the Romantic era in the first part of the 17th century which, according
to RenГ© Wellek s classic definition, sought to substitute imagination for the view of poetry,
nature for the view of the world, and symbol and myth for poetic style. Therefore, Keats Ode to a
Nightingale , written in 1819, has an affiliation with the natural world, through both the metaphors
he uses and his meter and rhyme. The fact that the poem is an Ode to a nightingale shows that
Keats is addressing the bird in particular and therefore it asserts the link that is found in
Romanticism between humans and the natural world. M. H. Abrams states that Keats wrote this
poem, whilst reminiscent of a Horation Ode, as what came to be known as a Romantic Meditative
Ode which is the personal ode of description and passionate meditation . It is clear here that what
Keats is passionate about in this poem is the country green . Keats coined the term negative
capability to describe passionate mediation in a letter to

Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies
Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers
generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of
Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic
impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This
method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on
the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic
impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with
nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may
be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ].
Francisco C. De la rossa [2] have described ,all possible nonlinear loads . Among them few are
Power converters such as Variable frequency drives, DC motor controllers, Cycloconverter, Cranes,
Elevators ,Steel mills, Power supplies, UPS,Battery chargers, Inverters ARC devices such as
Fluorescent lighting, ARC furnaces, Welding machines. According to authors [2] ,[7] Even linear
loads like power transformers can act nonlinear under saturation conditions. This occurs beyond the
so called saturation knee of the magnetizing curve of the transformer. [2],[7]. According to author

The Anglo Saxon period is known as a time span of about 600 years from 400 1066 AD. Many
refer to it as the Dark Ages because very little written sources of the period are available. The
Anglo Saxon period is a time of many wars. Invaders came to settle and take over the land
causing war between kingdoms. Also it s a time that religion was forced upon. Meaning to
convert whether you wanted to or not. A lot of separation of kingdoms occurred during these
times creating more rulers of these new kingdoms. For example, Charlemagne, also known as
Charles the Great, became King of Franks in 768. Charlemagne ruled for forty six years from 768

Disadvantages Of Plastic Vs Plastic
In modern times, there are numerous materials used to make the everyday necessities we need in
life such as our phones, clothes, shoes, plastic bags, and many more. However we could narrow the
materials down to metal based products, polymer based products/ plastics, and cellulose based
products/paper. To narrow things even down further so that we could have an argument, plasticand
cellulose could both be used to make the same type of material such as containersfor juice,
containers for food, chairs, tables and many more. With this, we could now compare if plastic or
paper is the better material to make our basic necessities. I would say that plastic would be better
because of its durability, energy efficiency in making plastics, and the ability to mold plastic.
First of all, plastic materials are more durable because of their physical property. The perfect
example for this would be the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People would say that plastic in landfills would just stay there and if we keep on using plastic the
waste problem would just worsen. I think that the problem here is why do people put plastics in
landfills mixed with biodegradable materials. There are ways to properly recycle plastic. This
comes to my third argument for why plastic beats paper. It is better because we could change its
physical shape to things we really need. Richard Stein, from the University of Massachusetts,
stated that plastics could be melted and formed into different structures such as propellers for
wind turbines, food containers and many more [3]. Imagine being able to reuse plastic as long as
the quality of it can still be recyclable, but if it isn t anymore, Richard Stein also suggested that
plastic could be converted to energy by burning it since it is made of petroleum [3].
To conclude, plastic is better than paper because it saves energy in production, is durable, can be
recycled, and can be transformed into energy. I rest my

The Failure Of Vocation Limited Essay
1IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM This essay exposits the failure of Vocation Limited to draft how
might a more appropriate application of the eight ASX Corporate Governance Principles (ASX,
2014, p. 4) have conceivably prevented the failure. Corporate failure is referred to insolvency in
Australia, which means the inability to meet the due debt obligations, resulting in business
suspension (Michaela, Patricia, Susan, Kimberly, Matthew, 2012, p. 365). Corporate governance
denotes to the system by which corporations are directed and controlled (Michaela et al., 2012, p.
188). Moreover, Hamilton and Micklethwait (2006, p. 1) postulates that the six causes of
corporate failure are the most representative with irrespective of sector or geography. Therefore,
by applying the six main causes (Hamilton Micklethwait, 2006, p. 1) and the eight principles
(ASX, 2014, p. 4), the scope of the essay is limited to the company prospective without
consideration of external issues. Additionally, this essay accesses only the public available
information of Vocation. 2DETERMINE RELEVANT INFORMATION As vocational based
training outsourced by the governments, Vocation pied in pocketing supporting funds and students
were endowed education with HELP loans (Joe Simon, 2014, p. 2). Vocation established through
three considerable RTOs then first listed in ASX (Vocation, 2014a, p. 2 14) and expanded

Why Funding For Public Education
When it comes to education, it is generally agreed that money matters. What is not as apparent are
questions like: In what ways does money matter? How does money impact the achievement and
opportunities of the students? Are there predictable affects of increasing or decreasing spending in
a school system? These questions are important for a number of reasons. Funding for public
educationis a limited resource and knowing how to utilize those limited funds efficiently and
effectively is a goal schooladministrators seek to achieve. There is also the issue of equality. Since
a significant portion of a school s budget is allocated through the local tax base, school districts may
have more or less funding available to them depending on which community they are located in. If
school spending is tied to student performance or opportunities, and different school systems have
different levels of funds available to them, then it can be said that educational opportunities for
students will be different depending on which school district they belong to. In an attempt to seek
the connections between money and education, I will look at three research papers which
investigates this matter.
The first paper is The Cost Effectiveness of 22 Approaches for Raising Student Achievement, by
Stuart Yeh. This meta study looks at the various methods/interventions employed by school systems
to help students raise their level of achievement, its effectiveness and the associated cost of such

Analysis Of Vladimir Nabokov s Short Stories
Abstract
Vladimir Nabokov s short stories featured are Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita.
Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside
world and the impact this has on his elderly parents. Bachmann is about a genius composer whose
only source of affection is of Madame Perov, whose infatuation is seen in her constant attendance
of his piano recitals. Terra Incognito s main character ValliГ©re and his companions are losing
their minds and lives to strange hallucigenic fever in a remote country in the fictional country of
Zonraki. Strong aspects of all three short stories focus on the alienation of each of the protagonists
and the cause of this, either due to madness, great creativity or delusion. This link is forged between
the three, which would have not been as obvious. To attempt to show this association, the following
question arose, which is:
The alienated person is out of touch with himself as he is out of touch with any person. (Erich
Fromm, 1955) How does Nabokov convey alienation of characters well in the short stories Signs
and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita?
The three short stories, Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita are going to be
examined. Nabokov is interested in people who are forcefully marginalized by society due to their
imaginations. He depicts them using a number of writer s tools such as the conflict between
characters, the opinions of secondary characters,

Voting in National Elections Should be Compulsory Not...
It was in 1928 that universal suffrage had been granted in the United Kingdom. Prior to that time,
people fought to have the right to vote so their opinions could be voiced, yet now we have that
right, voting does not seem so significant. Before deciding whether voting should be compulsory or
optional, understanding what exactly is meant by the term compulsory votingis essential. It is also
important to educate the general public more about politics so they can make an informed decision
if and when they do choose to vote. Finally, there should be a comparison with other countries
which currently enforce compulsory voting to better understand how it would work.
The term compulsory voting is a misnomer as it is impossible to monitor ... Show more content on

Perhaps making voting compulsory would encourage apathetic and apolitical people to become
more politically active and express their opinions.
There are some people who believe that they are not well informed so they do not know who to
vote for in elections. Others are prepared to express a view without having the slightest
knowledge about the subject (Kavanagh, 1983:13). However, if voting were made compulsory,
political parties would spend less money on getting out the vote , and spend more time on
campaigning their policies (Electoral Reform Society, 2009; IDEA, 2009) and so making the
public more aware of what they are trying to achieve and why people should vote for them. As
less money is spent on (often negative) campaigning, there would be a decrease in the opportunity
for corruption in politics by reducing the need for party fundraising (Faulks, 2001:24). The public
should be more educated about politics and the policies of the parties they may or may not vote for
because the more intense, informed and stable an opinion is, the more likely a person is to act on it
(Kavanagh, 1983:14). Nevertheless, the information provided in educating the public has to be
interesting, something which engages public interest and stimulates debate, as opposed to apathy
and alienation (Heywood, 2007:255) and this would be much easier to do with the enforcement of
compulsory voting rather than politicians

Mother Son Conflict In The Odyssey
There is a common theme in Greek Mythology of children fighting with, overthrowing, and often
killing their parents. Zeus kills his father Cronus to rise to power as the king of the Olympian
gods. Prior to this, Cronus had killed his own father, Uranus, which lead to the rise of the Titans.
Perhaps you re confused. No one kills their parents in the books we read in class, you re probably
thinking. In this, you are correct. However, Telemachus relationship with his mother Penelopestill
fits some aspects of this trope of struggling in the assumption of power from his parents. His
murder of the maids at his father s command is influenced by his attempting to prevail in this
mother son conflict.
In order to present this concept in my media project, I created a comic detailing Telemachus
hypothetical thought process, the people and statements I d imagine were passing through his mind
the moment before he murdered the maids. In doing so, I can justify my thesis. Sections from the
comic and the quotations that go along with them will appear on the screen behind me as I provide
literary analysis, and at the end I ll show the comic in full.
To begin, in order to prove the murders were influenced by the conflict, it must first be proven that
there is a conflict. Shortly after the introductory section of the Odyssey, we see Telemachus telling
his mother to go back to her quarters and tend to her distaff and loom . Then, he reminds her he
holds the reins of power in their house.

revolutionary change in health management and treatment, which combined with the growing aged

established small molecule pharmaceutical companies. She asserts that the biotechnology
companies will emerge as the leaders in the world s medical research and development. Robbins
Roth further explains the intricacies of financing a biotechnology venture, the necessity of efficient
risk management, and the difficulty of selling an idea to non scientist investors. The author recalls

Analysis Of Mary Maloney In Lamb To The Slaughter
Is it possible for a loving wife that is six months pregnant to love her husband with all her heart,
but then moments later is found to be the wife that murders her husband? Well, Mary Maloney, a
caring, loving women is the wife of detective Patrick, an alcoholic man that comes home from
work only to see his wife that he no longer loves. One day, when Patrick is not sober, he attempts
to deliver some upsetting news to Mary about a divorce. Sadly, she does not believe it and
carries on with her life, but after having to believe it, Mary takes revenge on Patrick by taking his
life from him. Mary Maloney is extremely intelligent and is a very deceiving female character in
the short storycalled, Lamb To The Slaughter. Throughout this story, her character traits do not just
portray how she is an effective murderer, but a strong actress as well.
Firstly, by using her intelligence, she kills her husband without leaving a trace, showing that she
is a sufficient murderer. For example, Mary kills her husband when she, ...[swings] the big frozen
leg of lamb high in the air and {brings} it down as hard as she could on the back of his head (Dahl
4). Obviously, knowing that the police is going to appear and search for the murder weapon, Mary

Spectacular Changes In Alpine Environment Essay
Introduction: Spectacular changes take place in alpine environments. An obvious observation is
that the tree line ends and peaks emerge. A more subtle change occurs within the plants. There are
two major ways in which plants adapt to survive in alpine environments; morphologically and
physiologically. Although, W.D. Billings, in his Adaptations and Origins of Alpine Plants
, states that
there are also a few other manners in which they adapt including reproductive and ecological
(1974). However, the main focus of this essay is on the morphological and physiological
adaptations plants make.
Description of an Alpine Environment:
Before discussing what changes plants undergo to survive in alpine environments, a description of
an alpine environment is needed. A brief explanation would be that an alpine environment begins
where the tree line on a mountain ends (Frank Salisbury et al., 1968). Classic characteristics of
this sort of environment include low temperatures, short and instable seasons, as well as windy
and snowy conditions (Billings, 1974). The Latin word for alpine is albus which means white or
snow covered according to Korner in his Alpine Plant Life (1949). Korner also believes that there
are only two main categories of plants that reside in alpine environments that ought to be considered
alpine plants. The categories include those plants that are restricted to life in alpine environments
and those found in alpine environments as well as some lower altitudes

The Music Of Jazz Music Essay
Ever since Jelly Roll Morton revolutionised jazz music in the early 1920 s, Piano has played a
vital role in the development of Jazz music with greats such as Duke Ellington influencing jazz
from the start of the swing era (Gioia, 2011). Jazz Pianists were often on the forefront of the
ongoing development of jazzmusic. However, when the bebop era dawned, piano seemed to move
into the background, with people like John Coltrane and Miles Davisleading the charge. However,
this did not mean the piano disappeared, far from it; Jazz music is a genre that is in constant flux,
driven by the players in the music. Often, the most famous jazz musicians were the most
innovative and forward thinking players of their respective eras. Musicians hold jazz pedigree and
genealogy in high regard, where playing with and learning from the masters that came before was
almost a necessity. Some musicians learn from meticulously studying and transcribing solos and
compositions performed by previous masters. Pianos ability to play melody and harmony together
made it one of the most complex and diverse instruments in the world, especially in jazz music,
being able to perform solo with rich musical timbres and complexity. Players such as Bill Evans
and Thelonious Monk, whom are discussed in this paper, helped revolutionise jazz and bebop music
in their own way, and are some of the best jazz pianists of all time, driving the genre of jazz forever
forward (Solomon, 2013).
Thelonious Monk was known to

Safety Is A Vital Aspect Of Every Underground Mining Essay
Executive Summary Safety is a vital aspect of every underground mining activity. The Pike River
tragedy was caused by human negligence from the management s side. The employees were
exposed to high volumes of toxic gases that risked their lives. A combination of factors led to the
fatal tragedy that killed 29 employees and left two critically injured. The greatest failure emanated
from the managers since their project development skills were weak. The hiring of unskilled miners
affected the entire safety program since they could not use equipment as required. Even after
receiving complaints about excess toxic gases, the management invested in coalextraction rather
than safeguarding its employees. Various issues such as faulty ventilation, poor gas drainage
systems, and poor project development contributed to the four explosions. The Pike River Coal
Mine faced numerous complexities from its establishment. Firstly, it was constructed without the
right engineering knowledge. It is evident that the leaders sought cheap mechanisms that could
save funds. However, the management s ideas led to one of the biggest mine accidents in New
Zealand. The lack of concentrating on improving safety programs is a recipe for disaster as
portrayed by the Pike River accident. Adequate knowledge of skilled engineers should have been
sought in the development of this mine. The rights of employees in regards to workplace safety
should also have been observed and adhered to by the relevant

Nick s Use Of Narrator In The Great Gatsby
The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald follows the life of one Jay Gatsby through his
friend and neighbour, Nick Carraway. The style of narration that Fitzgerald brought into this book
is a unique concept. The story is being told by a character that has not and is not always been
with Gatsby. The use of dialogue and recounting of previous tales are used to further the storyline.
Throughout the novel the narrator recites the story in both first and third person. This suggests
that Nick does not always see what is happening with Gatsby, which in turn skews his telling of
the story. First person narrative is described as a story that is being read from the perspective of
the main character. Having access to their thoughts and emotions, their voice is what guides the
reader through the storyline. Terminology such as, I and we are used to identify this mode of
narration. For instance: I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom is judged for his abrasive nature; Gatsby is judged by type of car he has, the amount of
wealth and his parties; Miss Baker is judged for her independence. This being said, is Nick truly
giving a straight recount of Gatsby s life, or are we only subject his specific view of it. This view
surely will influence how the readers interpret the actions of the characters. It isn t until we learn
the background information that we start to break down the characters and appreciate their role in
the story line. Being similar to third person narrative, limited omniscience is restricted in some
degree to one character. This one character tells the story from a third person stand point while
having either conversations with other characters or retelling another characters story to show the
reader the bigger picture. For example, by using the other characters dialogue as literary devices.
Additionally the author can choose to provide character insight for only the narrating

Abortion In The Silent Scream
According to pioneer foetologist Albert Liley, by the fifty sixth day after conception, the baby s
spinal reflexes are sufficiently developed to feel pain. This is shown in Dr. Bernard Nathanson s
film, The Silent Scream, where the first ultrasound of an abortion.
The clip reveals an eleven week foetus resting in her mother s womb. Suddenly she is alarmed
because of the intruding abortion device and tries to move as far away as she can. Just before her
body is torn to pieces and sucked out through the tube, her tiny mouth opens in an unheard scream
of fear. After the abortion, the doctor who performed it was invited to watch the ultrasound. Once
he had viewed it, he was so upset that he left the room. Ever since that day, he never performed
another abortion.
Additionally, in a 1997 court case, abortionist Leroy Carhart was asked to explain the procedure
of abortion (dilation and evacuation) and then asked if the baby was alive during the process. He
said, I know that the foetus is alive because I can see its heartbeat on the ultrasound. Later, he was
quoted saying, My intent in every abortion I have ever done is to kill the feotus and terminate the
pregnancy.
There you have it, straight from the abortionist s mouth: the child is alive when the abortion is
performed.
That being said, one method to eradicate a baby from the womb is suction aspiration which is used
within the first three months of pregnancy. During this method, the doctor executing the abortion
dilates

Winter Solstice Short Story
Winter Solstice was a very special time in Stormholt, with Kenna and Val s friends visiting them
every year for a grand celebration. It was cold and windy that night, and even though Kenna and
Val were having fun, they were also feeling restless. Damn it Kenna, this dress is so itchy! I hate
having to be so formal. I know Val, but at least I let you do your hair the way you like. With an
amorous look, Kenna eyed Val up and down. You re not wearing anything underneath that dress
are you, Val? Grinning at Kenna, Val nodded, You know me too well. But I m pretty sure it s not
just me. I guess you ll have to find out later. As Val observed the way Kenna s hair flowed in the
wind, she had a hard time concentrating on anything else. ... and that s how I invented
plumbing. I... Val! Are you even listening? What? Oh yeah, very funny, Whitlock. Val! It s not
supposed to be funny, it s supposed to be interesting! Ok, then it s really interesting, Val said
with her eyes locked on Kenna, not fully aware of what she was even saying. Ugh, I don t know
why I try with you, maybe Lia will be more considerate. With that, Whitlock walked off, leaving
Val alone with her wife. Kenna, this shouldn t be possible, but when you re bathed in moonlight,
you re even more beautiful. Placing her hand on Val s thigh, Kenna smiled and gave her a kiss.
Funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you, my gorgeous wife. Kenna looked around to
see if anyone was paying attention to them.

  • 2. Investigating The Energy Content Of Paraffin Essay Introduction: The purpose of this lab was to determine the energy content of paraffin. This is done by measuring heat combustion in kJ/g of fuel. It was also to compare experimental and theoretical energy values as well as determine the specific heat of an unknown metal to identify it. Results: When conducting part one of the experiment, Paraffin combustion, the candle melted quickly and the flame atop the candle was very small. The wax pooled on top of the paraffin rather than following the canal dug into the side. For the second part of the experiment, the specific heat of an unknown metal, the thermometer spiked quickly and then slowly rose until it reached the peak temperature of 24.6 degrees. • 3. Comparing Frida And Pollock The biographical films, Frida and Pollock both explore the lives of an artist and how their conflicting life of illnesses and hardship influence their art. The text Frida explores an artist named Frida Kahlo s controversial life and how her fertility struggles had an influence on her art work, as well as other factors. Frida experienced a miscarriage, which resulted in emotional agony to discover her son died. Fragile and angry, Frida painted herself lying naked on a hospital bed covered in blood with six objects flying around her, one included the fetus of her dead son. Frida used the painful experience and turned it into art. Her husband described her work as agonized poetry on canvas. similarities in the text are displayed in Pollock. Art critic, Clement Greenberg, stated This is frustrate... why don t you do eight or ten of those to jackson. Jackson s art was a depiction of his frustration and his mental illness. The characters in Frida and Pollock both couldn t have children, under different circumstances which took a big toll on their lives as it was important to them. This factor combined with the illnesses created an arduous life for the two artists, but it resulted in masterpiece paintings. Painting helped their pain by transcending it onto the canvas. This challenges viewers to think that negative occurrences in life can be turned into something positive. • 4. The Theory Of International Relations Essay Power and interests has always been the basis of the relationship among societies. As a result of the quest along the history for the survival and development of the organized human groups around the world, the international orders emerged to set how states relates to each other based on the amount of power that they have and the interests they share at different moments of the history. With the evolution of societies, international orders changes because of a major clash between great powers where it is necessary a zero sum situation. To explain this, the paradigms of international relations will be the main tool. The rise of an international order is a result of the accumulation of power by a few big actors that are searching for hegemony. This is the idea that realist paradigm proposes, and it is useful to understand how the countries related each other during the major part of the history (from ancient times to middle age), where big empires and kingdoms divided the globe. Anarchy is the natural state of things , and then power is the source of order that allowed to the great powers to survive by taking resources from weak states under its protection. Through the realist lens, great powers fought each other for raw materials and colonies, and the actors (states) were personified by only one person (the emperor or king) using their big armies as tool to impose only their interests. Alliances were a classical way of agreement, motivated only for the need to balance power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Physics Of Complex Systems One of the flourishing and fascinating research areas in physics nowadays is the physics of complex systems, or the theory of complexity. There is not a single and straightforward meaning associated with this buzzword due to its vagueness and polysemy, and very often it depends on the context and the authors. Nevertheless, one of the interesting points are the tools and methods that the theoryprovides that can be eventually applied to many different disciplines, ranging from physics, chemistry, biology, applied sciences and even social sciences. The main idea of complexity that the author uses in the present monograph stems from the nonlinear interaction of the individual parts of a dynamical system and the different sizes of large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the problems to which the author refers to constitute very recent research problems in the field of space plasma, and the book contains at the end a very rich list of important references on the field, that the author uses along the whole book. The book is very well edited and it contains seven chapters, where key aspects of complexity theory applied to space plasmas are discussed. It starts with an excellent introduction where the objectives of the book are clearly outlined, and basically the rest of the chapters are devoted to either give the terminology that it will be used in the next chapters, or to describe methods and different applications. A second chapter deals extensively with the idea of dynamical criticality far from equilibrium. The theory of self organized criticality is introduced and applied to different examples. Interestingly, this theory helped to recognize the power law behaviour of the solar flares. Next, under the title of physics of complexity, the author describes coherent structures and explores the physical reasons of the origin of complexity in space plasmas. The next chapters deal with other techniques such as probability distributions, wavelets, fractals, multifractal analysis, ending with a final chapter on the dynamical renormalization group and its connection with criticality and multifractals. The phenomenon of intermittency and fluid turbulence using these techniques are also discussed. Including such topics as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ages Through Science In Latin America and Europe, people started to question the Catholic Church and began doubting if the Church was abusing their power. After the Scientific Revolution, philosophical thinkers and scientists discovered new theories, such as gravitational physics laws and other opinions written in books. Nicolaus Copernicus s discovery of heliocentrism transformed astronomy, his writings changed the people s perspective of the universe further challenging the Catholic Church s beliefs. People, during this time, were starting to break out of their shells and learning about new things and ideas, but the Catholic Church, being the basis of life, disapproved. This shows that people wanted to discover and educate themselves, but they couldn t with the church having power over them. Since Aristarchus s theory was unprovable during that time since there were no telescopes or satellites, the church quickly dismissed it. In the webpage, Nicolaus Copernicus, it is stated that Aristarchus used the concept of parallax to show that the stars were a very large distance from Earth and to do that he must have expanded the size of the universe enormously. These ideas contradicted what the Bible said, so he was considered a sinner and people didn t want to agree and fall into the bandwagon. Due to people s fear of the Church, many people went against their will and didn t get a chance to discover. During Aristarchus s time, people suppressed new ideas and became subjects of the church. On the other hand, Aristarchus tried his best to be strong in his ideas, but he didn t survive. Another astronomer and mathematician before Copernicus was Ptolemy (90 168 AD) who also formed incorrect theories and promoted the Church s power over the people. He illustrates on page 46, that women are born to satisfy men, at least in terms of art for most European painters. He empathizes this point by pointing at nude portraits and oil paintings. She tells her mom she wants a race track and the newest Hot Wheels set. Her mother is quick discourage this request and suggests asking for something more girly because race cars are for boys. The little girl is disappointed but abides by her mother s request and instead asks for a new doll house. In our current culture, there is a huge difference between what is considered to be for girls or boys. From birth, children are told what colors and styles of clothing they wear, what toys they should play with, and emotions they should feel. Often, girls are told they cannot play with toys considered to be for boys and boys are told they are not allowed to play with toys considered to be for girls. Children who do decide they want to play with the toys not traditionally for their gender are often scolded by family members, pushing the children back to their gender specific toys. In early childhood the decisions that determine who a child is to be are made by their parents or guardians. Gender socialization starts at birth and continues from adolescence, to adulthood, causing specific and detrimental differences in the way the genders behave. Before one can dissect gender socialization and gender roleexpectations in children, they must understand what they are. Such a move will also allow for more efficient operations with major companies that currently have to deal with both the MFDA and the IIROC separately. For example, where currently a company will have two separate departments dealing with both agencies separately, in an environment where there is one merged agency there will only be a need for one department. This is actually the case as the MFDA manages 139 firms, but 33 are also supervised by IIROC because they trade both mutual funds and normal brokerage operations. Jobs wanted to produce the computer and market it as he believed it would be a commercial success. It was at this time that the Apple Computer Company was officially founded on April 1, 1976. Other than creating Apple, Wozniak has made other great contributions to technology. After taking a leave from Apple in 1980, Woz went back to Berkley to earn a degree in computer science. Due to his participation in the technology field, he has also earned Honorary Doctorates in Engineering at 11 other universities worldwide. He returned to Apple in 1982 and joined the development team working on the Apple II. Woz was motivated to work on the Apple II by his desire to always innovate on his previous inventions, namely the Apple I. While working on the Apple II, Woz developed a floppy disk system that replaced the cassette systems used by every other personal computer at the time. Due to tensions within the team, Woz split off and began working on another project which would eventually be called the Macintosh. The Macintosh had several breakthrough features, all of which Wozniak had a part in developing. The Macintosh was an all in one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. A Study Of African History Many people think slavery happened after a group of explores from Portuguese started ring the coast of West Africa, but little do they know African Americans were trading themselves way before then. Portuguese explorer Prince Henry, known as the navigator, was the first European to methodically explore Africaand the oceanic to the Indies.[1] Many Europeans thought that Africa s history was not important. They argued that Africans were inferior to Europeans and they used this to help justify slavery. However, the reality was very different. A study of African history shows that Africa was by no means inferior to Europe. As you can see below, the people who suffered the most from the transatlantic slave trade were civilized, organised and technologically advanced peoples, long before the arrival of European slavers, trying to suggest they were backward peoples.[2] A major advance was the introduction of the caravel in the mid 15th century, a small ship able to sail windward more than any other in Europe at the time. Evolved from fishing ships designs, they were the first that could leave the coastal cabotage navigation and sail safely on the open. For celestial navigation the Portuguese used the Ephemerides, which experienced a remarkable diffusion in the 15th century. They were astronomical charts plotting the location of the stars over a distinct period of time. These charts revolutionized navigation, allowing to calculating latitude. Using the caravel, ... • 21. The United Open Door Immigration Policy As tension in Syria and the surrounding regions intensifies, more and more refugees are fleeing to Europe seeking asylum; however, the countries they are entering are experiencing many adverse side effects; such as, social unrest, sexual assaults, and terrorist attacks. It is unacceptable for the children in these nations to have to grow up in a nation they once called home and felt safe in but now no longer has that feeling. The same argument could be made for the refugees and that is why the current open door immigrationpolicy that Angela Merkel has in effect must be remedied. The goal of a refugeeis to escape war that they and their families can live safely without worry of being killed. Not to change the ways of the nation they are entering and treat the locals with disdain for their differences in ideology, dress, culture and even diet. The host nation of a large number of refugees should not have to change their way of life to accommodate those seeking refuge. It should be the other way around. Assimilation is the goal, not disintegration of native culture. A policy which allows radical Muslims to immigrate into the country and then face punishment only after the damage from their actions has been done is grossly illogical and insufficient for the preservation of a nation s security. Preventative measures must be put in place. The mass sexual assault that occurred in 2015 at New Year s Festivals in Germanysimply and clearly demonstrate another symptom of the ... • 22. Treatment Of Women In The Taming Of The Shrew The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare obtains various interpretations that are viewed as debatable. The novel involves men attempting to ask for Baptista s blessing to marry his youngest daughter, Bianca. However, the oldest daughter Katherine was not fancied by most men because of her blunt personality and feisty attitude. Many readers, especially feminists, argue that the Taming of the Shrewrevolves around the idea of how men oppress women by the way men find Kat s attitude as unappealing, how Petruchio attempts to tame Kat, and at the end of the novel when the three married men challenge each other to see which wife is the most obedient. Kehler s Statement on What is Expected of Women The youngest sister, Bianca, was adored by dozens of men because she was quite the opposite of her older sister, Katherine. Katherine came off as harsh because she spoke whatever was on her mind which is why men preferred to ask for Bianca s hand in marriage. Bianca was obedient and most importantly kept her thoughts to herself. Bianca s soft and quiet personality did not threaten men in the slightest; therefore, the line to ask for her hand in marriage grew. Absolute value is important because if a number does not work because it s negative, absolute value is used to make the number positive. Out of many job possibilities, I chose a real estate agent because it uses absolute value the most in the job with things like measuring distances and financial transactions. A real estateagent, by definition, is a person who sells and rents out buildings and land for clients This job is important because real estate agents are the reason something has an address and people have ever rented, bought, or sold homes. The first way is that they need to know measuring distances. Real estate agents need this for tasks like placing for sale or open house signs in the perfect spot, taking pictures to make the house look appealing to a buyer, measuring the rooms of home, and to know how far away the house is from main places like a school. The last reason math is needed is for financial transactions. This task is a necessity for selling, buying, or renting a house, or estimating costs of a home, renovations or updates, and furniture. To be a real estate agent, you have to have loads of requirements. One essential education requirement is at least a high school diploma. So, no college is required but you probably have a better chance at the job with college. Also, a real estate agent needs to have licenses for the state they work in. Your state requires a specific number of hours of coursework or written or hands on work in order to get your license. • 25. Self Reliance Is Beneficial Or Beneficial An issue regarding thinking has been on the importance of self reliance, the notion of relying on oneself for ideas and knowledge. Some people argue that self reliance is harmful. From this perspective, self reliance generates bad thoughts and ideas, and people should conform to society instead. However, others argue that self reliance is extremely important for society. Ralph Waldo Emerson, a main proponent of this view, says that To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men that is genius (1). According to this view, relying on one s own ideas is genius, and it is much smarter to practice self reliance rather than conform to society s ideas. In sum, then, the issue is whether self reliance is beneficial or not beneficial. My view is that self reliance is beneficial. Though I concede that at times it may be a good ideato agree with the majority, I still maintain that one s own ideas are much better than those of the majority almost all of the time. Although some people think that the majority opinion is usually correct, I claim that the notion of self reliance is beneficial because individuals should rely on their own knowledge gained from life experience to create new and better ideas, which cause society to move forward and become better than it was before. • 26. Keats And Finch And The Nightingale In literature, it is generally agreed that The Nightingale invites the beholder to explore something beyond the merely human . Both Keats and Finch imitate this concept in Ode to a Nightingale and To the Nightingale by using poetic form and language to show the qualities of a bird that inspires them to look beyond the physical and in Finch s case, challenge the confines of human restriction whilst asserting poetryas a human necessity. Keats was a key figure in the Romantic era in the first part of the 17th century which, according to RenГ© Wellek s classic definition, sought to substitute imagination for the view of poetry, nature for the view of the world, and symbol and myth for poetic style. Therefore, Keats Ode to a Nightingale , written in 1819, has an affiliation with the natural world, through both the metaphors he uses and his meter and rhyme. The fact that the poem is an Ode to a nightingale shows that Keats is addressing the bird in particular and therefore it asserts the link that is found in Romanticism between humans and the natural world. M. H. Abrams states that Keats wrote this poem, whilst reminiscent of a Horation Ode, as what came to be known as a Romantic Meditative Ode which is the personal ode of description and passionate meditation . It is clear here that what Keats is passionate about in this poem is the country green . Keats coined the term negative capability to describe passionate mediation in a letter to ... • 27. Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ]. Francisco C. De la rossa [2] have described ,all possible nonlinear loads . Among them few are Power converters such as Variable frequency drives, DC motor controllers, Cycloconverter, Cranes, Elevators ,Steel mills, Power supplies, UPS,Battery chargers, Inverters ARC devices such as Fluorescent lighting, ARC furnaces, Welding machines. To narrow things even down further so that we could have an argument, plasticand cellulose could both be used to make the same type of material such as containersfor juice, containers for food, chairs, tables and many more. With this, we could now compare if plastic or paper is the better material to make our basic necessities. I think that the problem here is why do people put plastics in landfills mixed with biodegradable materials. There are ways to properly recycle plastic. This comes to my third argument for why plastic beats paper. It is better because we could change its physical shape to things we really need. Richard Stein, from the University of Massachusetts, stated that plastics could be melted and formed into different structures such as propellers for wind turbines, food containers and many more [3]. Imagine being able to reuse plastic as long as the quality of it can still be recyclable, but if it isn t anymore, Richard Stein also suggested that plastic could be converted to energy by burning it since it is made of petroleum [3]. Corporate failure is referred to insolvency in Australia, which means the inability to meet the due debt obligations, resulting in business suspension (Michaela, Patricia, Susan, Kimberly, Matthew, 2012, p. 365). Corporate governance denotes to the system by which corporations are directed and controlled (Michaela et al., 2012, p. 188). • 31. Why Funding For Public Education When it comes to education, it is generally agreed that money matters. What is not as apparent are questions like: In what ways does money matter? How does money impact the achievement and opportunities of the students? Are there predictable affects of increasing or decreasing spending in a school system? These questions are important for a number of reasons. Funding for public educationis a limited resource and knowing how to utilize those limited funds efficiently and effectively is a goal schooladministrators seek to achieve. There is also the issue of equality. Since a significant portion of a school s budget is allocated through the local tax base, school districts may have more or less funding available to them depending on which community they are located in. If school spending is tied to student performance or opportunities, and different school systems have different levels of funds available to them, then it can be said that educational opportunities for students will be different depending on which school district they belong to. In an attempt to seek the connections between money and education, I will look at three research papers which investigates this matter. The first paper is The Cost Effectiveness of 22 Approaches for Raising Student Achievement, by Stuart Yeh. This meta study looks at the various methods/interventions employed by school systems to help students raise their level of achievement, its effectiveness and the associated cost of such ... Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside world and the impact this has on his elderly parents. There are some people who believe that they are not well informed so they do not know who to vote for in elections. Others are prepared to express a view without having the slightest knowledge about the subject (Kavanagh, 1983:13). However, if voting were made compulsory, political parties would spend less money on getting out the vote , and spend more time on campaigning their policies (Electoral Reform Society, 2009; IDEA, 2009) and so making the public more aware of what they are trying to achieve and why people should vote for them. As less money is spent on (often negative) campaigning, there would be a decrease in the opportunity for corruption in politics by reducing the need for party fundraising (Faulks, 2001:24). The public should be more educated about politics and the policies of the parties they may or may not vote for because the more intense, informed and stable an opinion is, the more likely a person is to act on it (Kavanagh, 1983:14). However, Telemachus relationship with his mother Penelopestill fits some aspects of this trope of struggling in the assumption of power from his parents. • 47. Spectacular Changes In Alpine Environment Essay Introduction: Spectacular changes take place in alpine environments. An obvious observation is that the tree line ends and peaks emerge. A more subtle change occurs within the plants. There are two major ways in which plants adapt to survive in alpine environments; morphologically and physiologically. Although, W.D. Billings, in his Adaptations and Origins of Alpine Plants , states that there are also a few other manners in which they adapt including reproductive and ecological (1974). However, the main focus of this essay is on the morphological and physiological adaptations plants make. Description of an Alpine Environment: Before discussing what changes plants undergo to survive in alpine environments, a description of an alpine environment is needed. A brief explanation would be that an alpine environment begins where the tree line on a mountain ends (Frank Salisbury et al., 1968). Classic characteristics of this sort of environment include low temperatures, short and instable seasons, as well as windy and snowy conditions (Billings, 1974). The Latin word for alpine is albus which means white or snow covered according to Korner in his Alpine Plant Life (1949). Korner also believes that there are only two main categories of plants that reside in alpine environments that ought to be considered alpine plants. The categories include those plants that are restricted to life in alpine environments and those found in alpine environments as well as some lower altitudes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Music Of Jazz Music Essay Ever since Jelly Roll Morton revolutionised jazz music in the early 1920 s, Piano has played a vital role in the development of Jazz music with greats such as Duke Ellington influencing jazz from the start of the swing era (Gioia, 2011). Jazz Pianists were often on the forefront of the ongoing development of jazzmusic. However, when the bebop era dawned, piano seemed to move into the background, with people like John Coltrane and Miles Davisleading the charge. However, this did not mean the piano disappeared, far from it; Jazz music is a genre that is in constant flux, driven by the players in the music. Often, the most famous jazz musicians were the most innovative and forward thinking players of their respective eras. Musicians hold jazz pedigree and genealogy in high regard, where playing with and learning from the masters that came before was almost a necessity. Some musicians learn from meticulously studying and transcribing solos and compositions performed by previous masters. Pianos ability to play melody and harmony together made it one of the most complex and diverse instruments in the world, especially in jazz music, being able to perform solo with rich musical timbres and complexity. Players such as Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk, whom are discussed in this paper, helped revolutionise jazz and bebop music in their own way, and are some of the best jazz pianists of all time, driving the genre of jazz forever forward (Solomon, 2013). • 50. Nick s Use Of Narrator In The Great Gatsby The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald follows the life of one Jay Gatsby through his friend and neighbour, Nick Carraway. The style of narration that Fitzgerald brought into this book is a unique concept. The story is being told by a character that has not and is not always been with Gatsby. The use of dialogue and recounting of previous tales are used to further the storyline. Throughout the novel the narrator recites the story in both first and third person. This suggests that Nick does not always see what is happening with Gatsby, which in turn skews his telling of the story. First person narrative is described as a story that is being read from the perspective of the main character.
