Glycolysis Cycle
1. INTRODUCTION :-
It is the sequence of reaction converting glucose to
pyruvate or lactate with the production of ATP. It takes
place in all cells of body and its enzyme present in
cytoplasm of the cell. Glycolysis occurs in absence of
oxygen called anaerobic glycolysis where lactate is end
product while in the presence of oxygen called aerobic
glycolysis where pyruvate is formed. It is major
pathway for ATP synthesis in tissue lacking
mitochondria.

3. ❶ Glucose is phosphorylated to glucose 6 phosphate by
Enzyme hexokinase on ATP and mg2+.
❷ Glucose 6 phosphate undergoes isomerization to give
fructose 6 phosphate in presence of enzyme
phosphohexose isomerase
❸ Fructose 6 phosphate is phosphorylated to fructose-
1,6 bisphosphate by enzyme phospho fructokinase.
❹ Fructose-1,6 bisphosphate is split into dehydroxy
acetone phosphate and glyceroldehyde 3 phosphate by
enzyme aldolage.
❺ Triose isomerase catalyses the reversible
interconvertion of glyceroldehyde 3 phosphate and
dehydroxy acetone phosphate.

4. ❻ Glyceroldehydehyde 3 phosphate dehydrogenase
convert glyceroldehyde 3 phosphate to 1,3
bisphosphoglycerate.
❼ Enzme phosphoglycerate kinase acts on 2,3
bisphosphoglycerate resulting formation of 3
phosphoglycerate.
❽ 3 phosphoglycerate is converted to 2
phosphoglycerate by enzyme mutase.
❾ Phosphophenol pyruvate is generated from 2
phosphoglycerate by enzyme enolase.
❿ Pyruvate kinase catalyses the phosphate group and
pyruvate is formed.
