Glass is a non-crystalline amorphous solid that is often transparent and has widespread practical uses. It is manufactured by heating sand, soda ash, and limestone to high temperatures to form a molten liquid that is then cooled rapidly. Glass can be recycled endlessly without loss of quality by melting down collected glass containers and bottles. Recycling glass provides environmental benefits like reducing carbon dioxide emissions and conserving energy compared to producing glass from raw materials. Recycled glass has many uses including as fine aggregate in concrete where it can replace up to 10-20% of sand, and in self-compacting concrete which has benefits for construction and architecture.
