There are currently 285 million visually impaired people worldwide who rely primarily on white canes. New technologies like electronic video magnifiers and audio text readers have been developed but are still expensive, with prices ranging from £1,000 to £3,000. GiveVision is developing smart glasses that use computer vision, machine learning and image processing algorithms to capture images, extract and magnify text, and allow users to customize display settings, with the goal of creating an affordable assistive device.
