The Giralda tower in Seville was originally constructed in the late 12th century as a minaret for the city's main mosque under Moorish rule. After the Christian reconquest of Seville in the late 15th century, a bell tower was added to the top of the minaret, increasing its total height to almost 100 meters and transforming it into the bell tower of the new cathedral. The tower remains the most iconic landmark in Seville.
