The Gila monster has orange and black or pink and black skin covered in beads, can grow up to two feet long and weigh five pounds, and is a carnivore. They lay up to 13 eggs and live in deserts in the southern US and northern Mexico, have a powerful venomous bite for defense but are not endangered. Gila monsters spend much time underground and have slow metabolisms, living 20-30 years.
