Gi-Fi
• Gi-Fi or gigabit wireless refers to a wireless communication at
a data rate of more than one billion bits (gigabit) per second.
Introduction
• Introduction to Gi-Fi Wireless technology improvement has
become follower in today’s modern life.
• One of the greatest improvements made on wireless technology
field was inventing a new Wireless Technology (Gi-Fi).
• Gi-Fi or Gigabit Wireless is the world’s first transceiver integrated
on a single chip that operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.
• Gi-Fi is a wireless transmission system which is ten times faster
than Wi-Fi.
• This technology providing low-cost, high broadband access, with
very high speed large files exchange within seconds.
History
• By 2004 some trade press used the term "Gi-Fi" to refer to faster
versions of the IEEE 802.11 standards marketed under the
trademark Wi-Fi.
• It was developed by Melbourne University-based laboratories of
NICTA (National ICT Australia Limited), Australia’s Information
and Communications Technology Research Centre of Excellence.
• In 2008 researchers at the University of Melbourne demonstrated
a transceiver integrated on a single integrated circuit (chip)that
operated at 60 GHz on the (complementary metal oxide
semiconductor)CMOS process.
Chip Architecture
• . The size of the Gi-Fi chip
is 5×5millimetre and can be placed in
different devices such as
mobile phones.
• The chip has a tiny 1mm antenna and
uses the 60GHz spectrum.
• Gigabit Wireless is the world's first
transceiver integrated on a single
chip
• It is manufactured using existing
complementary metal-oxide-
semiconductor (CMOS) technology
Architecture
• The core component of a Gi-Fi system is the subscriber station.
• It supports standard of IEEE 802.15.3C Wireless PAN An
802.15.3C based system often uses small antenna at the
subscriber station.
• It is the world’s first transceiver integrated on a single chip that
operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.
Architecture of Gi-Fi
• The core component of a Gi-Fi System is the subscriber station.
• It supports standard of IEEE 802.15 3C Wireless PAN.
• An 802.15 3C based system often uses small antenna at the
subscriber station.
Implementation
• The development can enable the truly wireless home and office of
the future. Because the integrated transceiver is very small, it will
be embedded into devices.
• Gi-Fi technology permits wireless uncompressed high definition
content and operates over a range of 10 meters without
interference.
• Gi-Fi chip has versatile design. It is extremely portable and might
be made in everywhere.

Comparison between Gi-Fi, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Features of Gi-Fi
• High speed of data transfer
• Low power consumption
• Higher security
• Cost effective
• Small size
• Quick deployment
Benefits of Gi-Fi technology.
• Removing cables
• Low cost
• Security and privacy
• High data transfer rate
Benefits of Gi-Fi technology.
• Removing cables: This technology removes need for cables to connect
consumer electronics devices and all the devices can be connected so as
to transmit the information wirelessly.
• Low cost: Low-cost chip permits technology to be easily incorporated
into several devices. The chip in Gi-Fi would likely cost less to create.
• Security and privacy: Encryption technology in Gi-Fi ensures security
and privacy of content. About 70 per cent of companies have deployed
their WLAN in a very secure firewall zone but are still using the
previous WEP protocol, that doesn’t protect the application layer
effectively, thus better encryption is urgently required.
Applications
• Household appliances:
It makes the wireless home and office of the future.
• Office appliances :
As it transfers data at high speed that made work very
easy.
• Video transfer :
We can transfer at speed of 5Gbps.
Conclusion
Without doubt, Gi-Fi wireless technology represents a
considerable improvement if compared to the existing technology.
The new technology provides innumerable features that improve
both the overall functionality as well as some specific security
functions.
