Hi Green School Families,
Greetings from Green School Green Generation! There’s less than three
weeks until our group makes the journey to Paris, so here are a few of our
exciting updates including upcoming events and efforts! Check below for
the complete updates:
K A L I M A N T A N
We are dressing as orangutans for a reason. Right now in Kalimantan the land is burning and people and
animals are dying. GS Green Generation has adopted this issue as one of their main advocacies because
of its global relevance to this conference, and impact in our country. So far we have helped fundraise,
along with the Kul Kul Connection, for over 1,500 masks and there is more to come! Each individual can
help the effort by sharing the message with their family overseas!
G O F U N D M E C A M P A I G N U P D A T E
There have been an astounding amount of generous people who have donated and contributed to the
process of getting the GS Green Generation to the COP21 and COY11 in Paris! So a BIG thank you to
those who are supporting our inspirational journey! But in order to reach our goal we still need to raise
$10,000, so please, if you haven't already, donate and share our link to anyone who wants to support the
positive and collective fight for facing anthropogenic climate change.
O F F S E T T I N G O U R C A R B O N F O O T P R I N T S
GS Green Generation understands the environmental impact that our trip will have. We recognize the
CO2 emitted by the flight to and from Paris as our trip’s second cost. While we work to raise funds for our
trip, we also work to offset our carbon footprint. Our group will counteract the emissions of our airplane by
planting bamboo, and through other more personal commitments (example: going vegetarian). We
recently participated in a bamboo planting event, however--this is not enough. Currently, because of the
urgency of the fires in Kalimantan, we are re-focussing our efforts. While working to raise awareness and
stop the fires may help to curb the massive carbon emissions from the haze, this will not directly offset the
carbon for our trip. After we return from Paris we will continue working on local initiatives that will allow us
to calculate our offsetting efforts.

We would really love to bring ideas and creations from the GS community with us as we go to Paris. We
are calling this a competition because we have limited numbers of each that we can bring, so we intend to
bring the best and the most representative of our community. Read More

GS Green Generation is also taking part in SHIFT this year and we encourage everyone to take part in the
five day carbon cleanse challenge. GS Green Generation reps will present the carbon cleanse at the
SHIFT assembly this Friday. Here is an outline of the challenge, and we encourage everyone to take part!
Day 1: Diet Part 1
Day 2: Energy
Day 3: Diet Part 2
Day 4: Transportation
Day 5: Advocacy
GS Green Generation reps will describe each day’s challenge in detail and explain both the health
benefits and carbon emission reductions at the SHIFT assembly on Friday.

Next Friday, October 13th, we will be screening Naomi Klein’s and Avi Lewis’s movie This Changes
Everything at 4pm. The film is based on Klein’s book that sparked the creation of GS Green Generation. It
is a powerful and urgent text that calls for action on the issue of anthropogenic climate change. Watch the
trailer below.

Because we live in Bali--eight degrees south of the equator--there is not much room for sweaters in our
lives. We are travelling to Paris during one of the coldest months of the year and are going to be spending
a lot of time out in the cold. We are calling on ANY and EVERYONE who happens to have warm and
cuddly clothing that they are not using to please help! Read More.
