GEOMETRY SCAVENGER
HUNT
7th Grade Math-Brockhaus
RATIONALE/SUMMARY
•Geometry is all around us. You can find
geometric shapes everywhere! Practice
observation skills and notice examples of
geometric shapes in this scavenger hunt.
STANDARDS
•CC State Standards: 7.G.2, 7.G.5
•ISTE Standards: 2.A, 2.B
OUTCOMES
•After reviewing different geometric
figures and terms, students will be
able to identify and classify these
shapes with their group members in
the real-world.
GROUPS
• Students will be given a puzzle piece and asked to find the other
pieces. This will be your group (group of 4). If the groups are
uneven then the teacher will place you in a specific group.
• Students are grouped this way
1. no one is left out
2. same people are not always grouped together
3. Students enjoy discovering who their group members will be
• Teacher reserves the right to change groups at any time.
MATERIALS
•Computer
•digital camera (available for checkout)
•notes
•Padlet website
TIMELINE
•Students will have four days to complete
this activity and one day to present.
•Adjustments may be made at a later
time.
5 DAY SCHEDULE
• Day One-present project, discover groups, assign shapes
(teacher must approve)
• Day Two-scavenger hunt begins-students begin to locate
and take pictures of shapes
• Day Three-scavenger hunt, begin designing presentation
• Day Four-design presentation
• Day Five-present
INSTRUCTIONS
•Students will use a digital camera (phone,
iPad, flip, etc.) to document real world
examples of the geometry concepts that
we are learning. Photos will be uploaded,
depicting an example of the geometric
figure or concept that we are studying in
class.
INSTRUCTIONS
•Students will be responsible for locating 20
shapes (5 each). Once the student has
located the shape and taken a picture
they will upload them onto their groups’
padlet. Each group will have their own
padlet which will be given to you at the
beginning of this project.

site is blocked at school.
• A maximum of 4 pictures may be taken from the internet.
INSTRUCTIONS
•In addition to finding the pictures, each
picture must have a title and brief description
of why this is a good example (some may be
obvious). Correct terminology and
vocabulary are required. Refer back to your
notes or textbook if needed. All answers will
be written using appropriate sentence
structure.

INDIVIDUAL RUBRIC
• Individual grades on group projects will be determined
based on the following rubric.
• For example, consider an individual assignment that
result from group work or a group assignment (e.g.,
poster presentation) that earns a grade of 85%. A
student who achieves a Level 4 rating will receive the
90% of the total points (i.e., 76.5%) earned for the
assignment.
INDIVIDUAL LEVELS
• Level 5 100% of the assignment grade
•  You participated fully in all discussions, contributing your own ideas and suggestions in each
phase of the project
•  You participated fully in project activities (planning, data or information collection, data analysis,
writing, presenting, etc.)
•  You attended all group meetings
•  You completed all tasks that you agreed to conduct for the project/team
•
• Level 4 90% of the assignment grade
•  You participated in each phase of the project but showed less initiative in contributing your ideas
and suggestions
•  You usually participated in project activities, but not always
•  You usually attended team meetings
•  You usually completed tasks that you agreed to conduct for the project/team
INDIVIDUAL LEVELS
• Level 3 80% of the assignment grade
•  You occasionally participated in the various phases of the project, generally as a “follower” rather
than contributing to project development
•  You occasionally attended team meetings
•  You completed one or two minor tasks that you agreed to conduct for the project/team
•
• Level 2 70% of the assignment grade
•  You contributed very little to the project, showing no initiative
•  You missed the vast majority of the team meetings
•  You failed to complete the majority of tasks that you agreed to conduct for the project/team
•
• Level 1 No credit
•  You did not participate in developing the project/presentation
GOOD LUCK!
