The document provides an analysis of the covers of three Marvel films: Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and Iron Man. It notes that all three covers prominently feature the main characters. While Guardians of the Galaxy only shows the good characters, X-Men and Iron Man also include villains. The style of the title fonts is similar metallic style across the films, though Iron Man's has a fiery gradient effect relating to the character. Overall, the covers signal the films' genres and main protagonists through their visual elements and symbolism.

Archetypes in mythical tales
Fiction has been one important part of literature. Not only English but other languages have fiction stories as their literary asset. Story telling used to be an interesting activity in the ancient times. As soon as TV and cinema got invented, the need for story books started diminishing gradually. Cartoon shows and fiction movies replaced them. Now-a-days, fiction movies have become an important genre of not only US cinema but all across the world. Not only children watch the fiction movies and shows with interest but a good number of adults watches them as well.
Whenever myth or fiction is discussed, the term archetype is widely used. Archetype means a symbolic pattern which repeats quite often in the myth (Myths & archetypes). These fiction movies make use of archetypal characters and story which repeat over and over again with slight variations. In the lines below, we’ll examine the movie Thor, which was released in 2011 to see what archetypal elements were used in the movie.
Analysis of archetypal elements of the movie Thor
1. Many of the fiction movies revolve around imaginary worlds or realms in which the hero is to live. Lord of the rings and Harry Potter provide a good example of this generic trend. Similarly, in the movie Thor, the hero Thor is shown to belong from an imaginary world or realm called Asgard. Thor is supposed to be the king after his father Odin.
2. Raglan says that quite often it is illustrated about the heroes in the myth that the hero is actually son of God. In some cases the myth may have a heroine which is daughter of God and Goddess or either of them. To illustrate his point he narrates the case of Helen who was the daughter of Zeus and Leda (151).
Our case is quite similar. Although the movie Thor doesn’t say it in a straight forward manner that the ruler of Asgard is God. However, it has been mentioned several times in the movie that Odin, the ruler of Asgard, looks after 9 realms of the Cosmos of which Earth is also one. This is no less than portraying him as God. Thor is his son so he satisfies this characteristic of an archetypal hero.
3. Then there comes a phase in such movies where the hero has a new role for him or the beginning of a new role. Same happens in our case i.e. in the movie Thor. The day when Thor is to ascend the throne, a few individuals from the rival creature namely Bifrost ghosts attack Asgard in an attempt to steal its mysterious assets but the attempt fails and the crowning ceremony of Thor doesn’t meet completion. Thor asks his father to invade the realm of the rivals, but he refuses. Upon refusal Thor asks some of his friends to accompany to the realm of the rivals namely Bifrost.
4. Thor and His friends start fighting with the ghosts. Having been fled the situation against the will of Thor, with the help of his father Odin, they reach back Asgard. Thor argues with his father in a.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

3. Positive Representation:
You see 5 characters who are
originally on their own come
together to fight the evil
characters.
I think it shows different types of
people or beings can work
together. In the movie we have a
human, an alien, a tree, a
raccoon and a male alien. After
meeting they all work together
despite them all originally being
strangers.
At the end of the film the
positive characters fight evil.
Negative representation:
There are negative
representation of the bad
characters, who the guardian of
the galaxy are trying to fight. The
characters wear dark clothing or
are seen in darkness.
The negative characters are
defected in the end.
4. Social groupsThe main (good) characters:
(left to right)
There is drax. A man is lost his family
because of ronan. He meets the
guardians along the way and decides
to join to defeat Ronan. The man
who plays him is 48.
Gamora. An alien assassin trained by
evil thanos. The women who play her
is 38.
Peter quill is half human and half
alien. Id say he looks about 30 years
old. Chris who plays him is 37.
Rocket. He is a racoon. Part of te
guardians.
Groot. He is a tree. He is partners
with rocket. Part of the guardians.
It is a mixed group of beings and
ages.
The bad characters:
Korath is an ally of ronan. He is fear
as an intergaltic hunter. The man
who play korath is 53.
Ronan makes a deal with thanos that
if he retrieves the artifact he will
destroy ronan mortal enemies , the
xandarians. He comes in contact with
guardians and tries to destroy them.
The man who plays ronan is 38.
Nebula is adopted daughter of
thanos and was raised with gamora.
She is loyal to thanos and Ronan. She
is the female villain of film. She is
played by a women of 29.
Thanos-
Adopted dad of gamora and nebula.
Part of bad side. His character is
computer generated with motion
capture, with help of josh brolin, 49.
They are mostly male characters and
a range of ages.
5. representation
Female representation:
There are two main female characters in guardians of the galaxy:Gamora and Nebula. They
are similar in some ways but also a lot different.
Both Gamora and Nebula can be seen as strong as they both can fight. However, the
different between them is that Gamora is much more independent and on her own at the
beginning ,whereas nebula fights with ronan for thanos, I think she wants his approval.
I think gamora is a positive representation of women because she can look after and stand
up for himself. Towards the end of the movie she becomes more softer as she develops a
connection with peter and works as a team with the guardians to defeat ronan.
I think nebula is a negative representation of women, despite being a fighter. She is part of
evil characters so she brings violence and drama. I think she is jealous of gamora as they
were brought up together. Women are stereotyped as being jealous and bitchy ,especially
when it comes to love so nebula adds to that negatives stereotype.
I feel females are a bit under represented because there’s only 2 , which is a big different
compared to the amount males in the movie.
6. representation
Male representation:
There are a lot of male characters featured in the guardians. There’s peter, drax,
korath, ronan, vondu and thanos; also groot and rocket are played by
males. There are male character on the good side and bad side. All males are
strong characters in their own way.
Positive representations of males
Star lord/peter: I think peter is a positive representation of a male. At the start
of movie the representation wasn’t great at the start of the movie as he didn’t
take things seriously, acted like an idiot and was a bit selfish. As the movie goes
on we see that he is funny and he works together with the other guardians to
defeat ronan. He is a very likeable character so he represents male in a good
light
Drax: he seemed like a very angry character when he was first introduced into
the movie but as the movie goes on we realize that he has a good heart. Overall
he is a positive presentation of males because he has works together with the
others to defeat the others and is caring.
ronan:
He is on the bad side. He is selfish and mean because he wants to kill the
xanderians. He is a bad representation of males because doesn’t care about
others and brings violence.
7.
8. There is a mix of genders
featured how the main
character is male. The female
gamora is eventually shown as a
love interest to peter.
Age-presence and absence.
The ages which are how are adults,
they are no kids present, I think this is
show the deteration of the panet that
there is no new life , like drax family
was killed.
Stereo types
Good will always over come evil.
9. Postive representation:
The main character is iron
man,which is also a
billionaire called tony
stark. Tony stark is
technically living two lives,
one as himself and one as
iron man.
His assistant is portrayed in
a positive light as she cares
and hels iron man.
Negative representation:
Stane is a man which iron man is
fighting against. He wants a suit
built for himself so he can fight
iron man.
10. Tony stark.
He is about 40.
Pepper
She is his assistant.
Stane.
The target audience will
be preminately male and
be teenagers to adults ,
who are the parents of
the kids.
The gender representation is
mainly male in this film.
There is a supporting female
as she helps the main
character iron man. The
female is a love interest to
the main character.
14. There is a range of characters featured on the cover; what
looks to be a human (half human half alien),a female alien, a
male alien, a raccoon and a tree. I can tell it is part of a sci-fi
genre genre because some characters are most are non-
humans and are make believe characters. Also, the
background is space and normally sci-fi movies are set in
space or places which are make believe. The characters are
carrying interesting guns which are very different to normal
guns used in real life. There are space-ships featured because
the movie it set in space , further showing the conventions of
a sci-fi film. It isn't as recognizable from the cover as a
superhero film. However, the cover shows them with their
weapons out so it shows they are fighting against something.
Normally, superhero fighting against evil , which is what they
do in the movie against ronan and thanos etc.
There are 10 characters featured on the cover; some
look like humans and some do not. This film can be
recognized as part of a sci-fi genre because some
characters are not human; two have alien eyes
showing that they are not obviously human. Also, it
only shows half the face of each character so it is a bit
mysterious; you can’t see the whole of their faces. Sci-
fi are usually mysterious but in them you see things
you aren’t used to seeing in real life so you don’t know
what to expect. The mysterious vibe from the cover is
increased by the darkness surrounding the images of
the characters. From the cover you cant really tell the
movie is a super hero movie. In the movie, it can
recognized as part of a superhero genre as they fight
the evil characters.
There are 4/5 characters featured, as
technically tonk stark and iron man are the
same person. It is recognizable as part of sci-fi
genre as a robot is featured ,as well as space
ships. It is clear to see that ’iron man’ is the
main character from the cover as the image of
him is larger than the other characters. By
looking at the cover you can tell it is a
superhero movie as you have a character with a
suit, supero hero’s normally wear a suit.
Genre features and symbolism
15. I can see a few similarities between the films, from the covers. All of the films are
produced or partly produced my marvel studios so this may be one of the reasons they
are similar.
16. All have the main characters featured on the front of the DVD. Guardians of the galaxy has peter quill,
Gamora and the rest of the main protagonist characters. X- men has 10 of the characters on the cover,
which are the main cast. Iron man has 4 characters featured on the cover, as iron man is also tony stark. I
think guardians cover stands out from the other super hero covers, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the
characters featured on the guardians cover are ’good’ characters whereas on the other covers the ’bad’
characters are also featured on the cover. The guardians cover is also a lot more vibrant than the two other
covers; this may be because only positive characters are featured.
17. The fonts used style used is pretty similar.it is a metallic style either
gold or sliver. Iron man us is a bit different because it has a gradient
on it, which gives it a fiery/hot metal vibe. I think this genre use this
style for the text because it stands out and create meaning for the
films. I think using metals relates the fact medals or trophies are
metal; gold, bronze and sliver. Super heroes always defeat the
enemy/enemies in the end like the guardians defeat Ronan. They are
held as heroes when they fight evil and save the world/planet/space.
When you have done something good or won something you earn a
medal, so the metal in the title may symbolises doing good. I think
the ‘iron man’ style of text is made to match the iron man suit, which
also made out of metal.
Symbolism
