Sheldon Berman: Shaping the Way We Learn, Teach, and LeadSheldon Berman
The vision, mission and instructional strategies implemented in the Jefferson County Public Schools while Dr. Sheldon Berman served as superintendent from 2007 to 2011 embody this educational philosophy. The administrative leadership in JCPS created "Shaping the Way We Learn, Teach and Lead" in order to communicate to faculty, staff and the larger community how the district's vision can be realized through the coherence of its theory of action, goals and strategies, core competencies for staff, and classroom instructional framework.

Teacher Leadership Vision Statement
Dear (Tina),
In order to further develop a community, much more a learning environment for children, one must be able to go beyond the ordinary. Teachers are made not only to teach but to lead as well. To make these teachers effective leaders, we ask the support of our colleagues, the school administration, our students and their parents, and most importantly, our stakeholders. On our end, we will do our best to maximize all our resources and services and capitalize on our strengths and assets in order to fulfill our roles as teachers, as well as to deliver to the school administration as well as to our dear stakeholders. You, as a stakeholder, have been identified as a credible partner of our organization in enriching children’s lives and furthering young skills and talents. As a stakeholder, we value your input in improving our services since the success of this process depends on your involvement at that of our other stakeholders’. As a partner working towards the betterment of our institution, together we must achieve the following:
· An enriching environment for learners to nurture their skills and further their development.
· A community of teachers and learners working towards one goal and reaching it through productive and plausible means.
· To lead with pride and purpose in order to encompass all forms of student development and improve student learning.
· A community where equality is valued; where one’s opportunities are not determined by his/her social status in life nor his/her physical condition.
· A community where one’s skills and talented can be nurtured and maximized to its full potential. I aim to discredit the notion that a student’s success is driven by his/her background, I want to be able to change that and support everyone regardless of his/her social background and status in life. One’s success should depend on the student’s willingness to learn and hone his/her skills, on the student’s determination to get the job done as excellently as possible, and on the student’s overall performance.
· A learning community where excellent ideas and strategies are exchanged between students and teachers, where problems are being solved collaboratively through consultations with expert colleagues.
· To inculcate values of optimism, collaboration, and innovation in our daily activities and work ethic to better inspire colleagues and students to work just the same.
· An education system where collaboration and freedom of professional inquiry are promoted; this will not all be of help to the students but to my colleagues as well.
· Lastly, I envision a life-giving learning community rooted in our core values of passion, equality, and determination guided by the mission to bring out each child’s potential.
All of these will be made possible if accompanied by unyielding support and active participation from the school administration, fellow teachers, students, as well as their parents. It is m ...

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. The logo of Metamorphosis Life Skills Private Limited is a profile of the eagle
with outstretched wing, soaring high towards the sun, the source of limitless
energy and enlightenment. For centuries, the eagle has been associated with
strength, courage, wisdom, illumination of spirit, healing, and creation. Many
religious scriptures and native cultures around the world have often and
rightfully referred to the eagle as the source of great power and balance,
leadership, and vision. All of these traits can be viewed symbolically as ideas to
assist humans to be more successful within their own lives. As the chief of all the
winged creatures, the eagle is a great teacher. It inspires one to reach higher
and become more than what one believes what one is capable of rather than
accepting the status quo. One must have the courage to relinquish stale and
comfortable habits and beliefs to soar into unknown realms and new realities -
continually expanding one's view. With the eagle's magnificent ability to fly, it
stays connected to the earth. We must keep ourselves grounded and lay a solid
foundation for ourselves. The talons - meant to grasp and hunt - reflect the need
to utilize the things of the earth. The sharp beak and strong jaw muscles
demonstrate the importance of knowing when to speak, how much and how
strongly - lest we inadvertently hurt someone with words. New vision will open
that is far reaching into the past, within the present, and to the future. Eagles are
predators with a powerful sense of energy conservation. They use their great
vision to know when to take flight and capture their prey. To align oneself with the
eagle is to take on the responsibility and power to become so much more than
one appears to be.

Be The Change
4. VISION:
“Man is the creator of change in this world. As such he should be above
systems and structures, and not subordinate to them.”
A holistic approach, practical idealism, and a passion for public service define
Metamorphosis.
Our vision serves as the framework for our Roadmap and guides every aspect
of our service by describing what we need to accomplish in order to make life
skills education a part of our main stream academics.
People: Be a great place to work/learn where people are inspired to be the best
they can be.
Portfolio: Bring to the educational institutions a portfolio of quality training
modules and curriculum in life skills learning that anticipate and satisfy
educational system's requirements and essentials.
Partners: Nurture a winning network of customers (schools) and suppliers
(University). Together we create mutual and enduring value.
Planet: Be a responsible citizen that makes a difference by helping build and
support sustainable schools with value education.
Profit: Maximize long-term return to share-owners while being mindful of our
overall responsibilities.
Productivity: Be a highly effective, lean, and fast-moving organization.
MISSION:
Metamorphosis Life
Skills Pvt. Ltd is committed
to bringing the best life skills
education to students, educators,
creative professionals, and people across the country through its innovative
counseling, training, and supportive initiations.
As a company, and as individuals, we value integrity, openness, personal
excellence, constructive self-criticism, continual self-improvement, and mutual
respect. We are committed to our customers and partners and have a passion
for reviving our education system.
We take on big challenges, and pride ourselves on seeing them through. We
hold ourselves accountable to our customers, shareholders, partners, and
employees by honoring our commitments, providing results, and striving for the
highest quality.
Our goal has always been to enhance our company value, maintain our
sustainable long-term development and generate greater results for our clients.
By upholding our core value of “Responsibility Makes Perfection”, we strive to
achieve educational, social and economic sustainability in a way that
coordinates the present and the future while taking the interests of our
educational system into account.
5. Metamorphosis is an innovative training company focused on
learning and leadership. A social enterprise with a vision to revive
education in India, its multi-disciplinary team consists of members
who hold strong competencies in curriculum design, professional
development, and assessment.
We believe that the time is right, and the context has been set for a revolution in
our education system. We have conceptualized and are implementing a model
for integrating life skills curriculum at schools.
Our flagship school program is called 'Genesis'. It is a life skills curriculum
for schools that present a 360-degree approach to holistic learning. Along with
supporting the school achieve academic excellence, it focuses on experience
and self-discovery, and guides the school towards exercising and realizing its
potential as a leader.
Genesis is a three-fold module:
Genesis-for students
Genesis-for management and teachers
Genesis-for parents
Our training and development programs are designed to latent“draw out”
talent. We believe this approach is more powerful than trying to “put in”
information or alter inborn talents. Our methodology is as important as the
content. We strive to create true life events for participants, from which they
draw deep personal learning and empowerment.
6. Improving the quality of learning and managing parents' expectations, by
simultaneously maintaining financial viability is a challenge for educational
leaders. Some educators are more demanding about quality than others. A
school has many constraints and challenges, ranging from child population
diversity to various regulations to availability of limited resources. While there
are many dedicated and hard-working teachers, there is often a skill gap that
needs to be addressed promptly. Genesis life skills curriculum aims at bridging
this gap.
Practical Solution: Schools need solutions that are pragmatic and practical.
They need to be aligned with the latest norms and should be functional in the
existing system. This is precisely our mission. We deliver practical solutions for
complete life-skills requirement.
Parent Acknowledgment: Whatever choice a school makes affects the
parents directly or indirectly. Through our program, we ensure they see the
benefits and appreciate the school's efforts in delivering quality.
Financial Value: Our programs are customized and affordable, which makes it
viable for the schools to balance them with their books and infrastructure. All it
takes is an extra thought coupled with extra effort.
“Not all school leaders are the same.
Some are more demanding than others.”

7. O
ur mission is to ensure comprehensive development of each student
in your school. While academic excellence remains the matter of
antecedence, the importance of virtues/qualities such as
responsibility, accountability, courage, leadership; etc. cannot be overlooked in
today's highly competitive world. Our vested interest lies in preparing every
child to face the challenges posed by today's environment.
“We believe that any change in the world
must begin at the roots. With our schools.”
8. W
e understand that while there are students, who excel at
academics, there are others who have setbacks facing
competition, peer pressure, and expectations from self and others
around them. They find it extremely difficult to stand their ground and to identify
their path. This difficulty can lead them to take wrong, and at times, drastic
decisions.
We are here to craft a journey for students-a journey where we help them to
understand themselves. By giving them an environment that enables and
encourages them to seek guidance and support, we are here to help you help
them handle their challenges of life and build their character, while giving
undiminished importance to excellent results in the board examinations.
To help you discern better, please find below the basic framework of our
program:
The program is typically a workshop for two consecutive days. It is conducted
th th th
exclusively for the students of 8 /9 /10 grade. By investing two days from their
schedule, the students learn to understand themselves and their peers.
GENESIS FOR STUDENTS
9. As an educational institution, what is in it for you?
Based on the workshop conducted, the school will receive:
A report on the observed and identified patterns of the school,
consisting details of positive areas as well as possible areas for
improvement. This report is ensured to lead the school to overall
success.
Individual development reports for students, which could be shared
with the parents.
A report highlighting students requiring extra help and guidance,
and who could be put on a special track to improvement.
What truly sets us apart from our contemporaries are our exclusive
follow-up sessions.
Five weeks after the conclusion of the workshop, the participants (students) will
be introduced to two follow-up sessions. Before the commencement of these
sessions, our team of experts will interact with the participants on a one-to-one
basis in order to identify their emotional blocks and counsel them accordingly.
They will collect data from all the participants. Subsequently, they will also
initiate a rapport with the parents to offer maximum support to the school for the
growth and development of the students.
Also, based on the predominant issues that would surface during the
workshop, special sessions for two such topics would be taken up and dealt
with in detail. For example, we could address the issues of peer pressure and
addiction to media and entertainment.
The Genesis for students workshop would cover aspects like:
Understanding the process of growth and change.
Understanding the core values and how they drive behaviors and choices.
Building self-image through awareness of strengths and by identifying areas needing
improvement.
Creating a strong understanding of how choices impact behaviors and image.
Identifying self-defeating feelings that get in the way of personal growth and success.
Techniques for activating and enhancing memory, concentration, creativity, and
intelligence.
Goal-setting for personal improvement.
Creating awareness about life-enhancing changes that the students would like to make.
Enhancing students’ relationships with their parents, peers, and teachers.
10. W
e also conduct a session on exam preparation and the
methodology for the right approach to exam. We provide a well-
developed, scientific approach to exam preparation including the
right diet plan. The approach, aptly named Examination Assistance Program
(EAP), is based on research and study of the principles and dynamics of the
morphogenesis field. The module creates a morphogenic study circle, putting
the young minds on the path to success. The program will comprise of a two-
hour presentation.
EXAMINATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
11. A
comprehensive, two-day workshop designed to represent and use
knowledge in distinctive ways to positively influence children's
potentialities to learn. The workshop helps the teachers to:
Create Personal Vision: Craft a coherent personal vision for their contribution
at school by discovering unique self-asset.
Learn optimism at work: Sustain the drive to achieve and deliver by
channeling emotional energy.
Acknowledge leadership as a verb: Exercise leadership to empower self and
others to shoulder responsibility and peruse challenges.
Build Trust: Create collective engagement, trust, and accountability of people
in the process of change.
At the end of the workshop the participants would identify and develop a time-
bound project related to their interest and area of work that would contribute to
the overall well-being of the school. The Metamorphosis faculty would support
them in executing their initiative.
