1. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product
and why?
- Would this be something that could be produced by a Hollywood
studio? If yes then why and is it similar to existing products?
Our movie could be, as it has the conventions of a stereotype
slasher movie. The easily relatable characters could work well
with the teenaged audience and scare them. We believe
Lionsgate could produce it.
Our Movie is similar to other slasher movies as it has the
drunken teenagers, the creepy villain and the fear of the
unknown.
- Would it be a TV movie?
No, I believe our movie could be on the big screen and get in a
lot of money. It’s very rare that a brand new slasher franchise is
created so I think this could intrigue audiences.
- Would it be an arthouse movie?
No, our film would not be an arthouse movie as it features
stereotypes and is not realistic.
- Would it be an Internet only release?
Right now, it could be although it could also be tweaked and
filmed more professionally, making it worthy of a larger launch.
- Why would it be released? Does it offer opportunities for franchises
or merchandise?
As the major plot line of the full film could be about the killer
rising from the dead, this could happen again and again causing
for more sequels in the future. Merchandise could come from
clothing and accompanying novels and videogames.
- Link your conclusions to a discussion of mise en scene (visual
style) or your film noir/horror.
Lionsgate’s horrors are usually gory and are set in real world
situations, such as the successful Saw series and Area 51. Our
film is set in the real world and although it features returning
from the dead this is based on real legends of bringing the dead
back to life, using witches magic or curses.
