1. In order for our music video to come to life, we needed to generate our own
record label. This is because we are in aid of a distributor and promoter for
our music video of The Courteeners melody “Not Nineteen Forever”. My
leading plan of action was coming up with a name for our record company;
lots of different names were brainstormed but we managed to narrow it down
to just two names, “Puffer Records” and “Polar Records”. After discussing the
names, we decided to come choose “Polar Records”. Once the name had
been sorted, we then had to design our own logo.
Above, is a screen shot of the website I went on to produce the text for the
logo. We didn’t have much of a choice to pick from and we picked our design
instantaneously. This was from the Fire/Ice category so I could get an icy text
which links to the name of our record company.
After editing the colour of the text, I realsied that this made it look more
applicable to the name, cold and Antarctic. It also made it look more un-
original than just basic black text. I decided that having just this, as our logo
would be too ordinary, we were going to need to add an image in to make it
look more aesthetically pleasing.
2. This was a general idea I had to fit into the logo to make it
look healthier. But their were a few problems I faced when
trying to add this into the letters. The first was that there
was a huge watermark on the middle of the polar bear to
prevent any form of copy right of the image, so already the
plan was flawed. I also could not position the image suitably
without it looking to silly. So I have to scrap that idea and
move onto something different.
This was when I came up with the idea of an igloo; the igloo could cover the
whole background of the logo. It is also very relevant with the name “Polar
Records” because you can associate the word polar with polar bears, the
north pole, snow, ice and igloo’s; they all link. Below is the final design I came
up with for our record label “Polar Records”.
