2. A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the
marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a film
and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for
viewing: for example, directly to the public either theatrically or for
home viewing. A distributor may do this directly, if the distributor owns
the theatres or film distribution networks, or through theatrical
exhibitors and other sub-distributors. A limited distributor may deal
only with particular products, such as DVDs or Blu-ray, or may act in a
particular country or market.
3. The reason to why distributors should consider my film is due to the
fact that I don’t believe there has been a recent good thriller/horror
film made in England. I think that the films storyline has a lot of offer
to the film industry.
Since our production is a thriller/horror film, there will be quite a few
film distributors that produce films of that genre (e.g. Newline). Such
as The Ring and Woman in Black.
The fact that the antagonist is a teenager really sticks to the rules of a
thriller/horror , I wanted to stick to the basics in the plotline. This film
would appeal to a younger audience as we unfold the typical lives of
young adults.
4. The similarities between my film and Scream is that the
genre is closer together due to the fact that they are both
typical horror film. Although Scream is an 18 rating for the
explicit blood and swearing The Grounds Keeper would not
show too much gore or have too much strong language to
be an 18.
5. In order to gain a larger audience, I think that social
media sties such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and
Youtube would be the most likely place for my film to
be advertised due to the high traffic of the public. This
means that advertisements such as trailers, tweets and
movie posters would more likely to be seen by anyone
that visits these sites.
6. In conclusion, I think that Newline Cinemas would be the most
interested in distributing ‘The Grounds Keeper’ since there are quite a
few similarities with the films ‘Friday the 13th’, and ‘Scream’.
In addition this certain distributor had produced and realised a series
of thriller/horror films. I also think my film would be suitable for this
distributor as I believe that there are some similarities with the other
films that they distribute.
