The innovative project empowers elders in community on health and social issues. Local Senior Citizen Organizations in cities are adopted. A Multi Service Health Centre is run by elders, in a space donated by the organization. Collaborative sessions on common diseases are taken by allied health professionals training older persons who volunteer to be local supervisors. These supervisors take care of elders in their neighborhood who are inactive /needing long term care. The nuclei of elders thus formed, are aware of issues pertaining to them, improving their QOL. Elders participate /plan activities according to existing culture and environment for e.g. in our two Agreements for Performance of Work with WHO SEARO at New Delhi (2014) & Kolkata (2015) targeted older women volunteers, where self management of chronic diseases like arthritis, hypertension with simple lifestyle modifications incorporating diet and exercises were taught. The focus group of women planned interventions with inputs from professionals. Our projects are monitored and data published in various national and international journals. www.dharmafoundationofindia.org.Supervisors refer elders to the centre, which help elders avail health services in the neighborhood and ,financially help sustain running of the Centre too. Such simple, cost effective intervention can be future guidelines of Multi Service Health Centres/Community /Recreation Centres/Polyclinics in the urban areas and Primary Care Centres in rural and semi urban areas. Preventive health models which empower populations may be one of the important aspects of future eldercare in India. We hope to develop future guidelines with data from multicentric projects in India. We have our projects of MSHC presently at Kolkata and Ahmednagar(Maharashtra)

Effects of community-based care on quality of life among adolescent and young...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: Studies have been conducted on the Ebola virus epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa, but few have
looked at how community-based care affects the quality of life of adolescent and young adult Ebola survivors in
the Democratic Republic of Congo, the focus of our study. The study was carried out in eastern Democratic
Republic of the Congo's North-Kivu province using mixed method quasi-experimental study design. The study
was carried out after the Ebola outbreak of 2018-2020.Participants were 10 to 24-year-old Ebola Virus Disease
(EVD) adolescent and young adult survivors. Quantitative data was collected at the baseline and endline of the
intervention. After the intervention, there was a 13.03% improvement in quality of life. Compared to the baseline,
Ebola survivors had a 1.58 (p=0.036) higher likelihood of having a good quality of life. Difference-in-difference
estimator was also 1.89(p=0.036), indicating interaction. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that social
support 2.19 (p=0.04) and confusion 0.26 (p=0.001) were variables that influenced the quality of life among
adolescent and young adult Ebola survivors. The study demonstrated that the quality of life of adolescent and
young adult Ebola survivors is significantly improved by community-based care.

Neuroplasticity, also known as brain plasticity, is an umbrella term that describes lasting change to the brain throughout an animal's life course. The term gained prominence in the latter half of the 20th century, when new research showed many aspects of the brain remain changeable (or "plastic") even into adulthood.
Physical therapists are exercise experts, providing services for a wide range of people to
optimise their physical ability. They prescribe exercise as part of a structured, safe, and
effective programme.
An important part of their role is to help people remain active as they age. More than any other
profession, physical therapists (known in many countries as physiotherapists) prevent and treat
chronic disease and disability in aging adults through specifically prescribed activity and
movement.
The World Health Organization encourages regular physical activity for older adults, because it
has been shown to improve the functional status and quality of life in this group of individuals.

A growing number of elderly with chronic diseases or disabilities require a family caregiver, or several, for physical, emotional, and financial support; for daily activities and medical.
Medical advances, new drugs, improved technology, and possible preventive strategies might be decreasing mortality and extending life. Since the 1970’s, medical care has resulted in a progressive shift from “care in the community to care by the community.”

Medical Technology Tackles New Health Care Demand - Research Report - March 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) predicts that with, against, despite, and even without the global pandemic, the medical technology (MedTech) industry shows signs of continuous healthy growth, driven by smaller, faster, and cheaper devices, growing demand for home-based applications, technological innovation, strategic acquisitions, investments, and SPAC listings. MCG predicts that this should reflects itself in annual growth of over 6%, well beyond 2028.
According to Chris Mouchabhani, Managing Partner at M Capital Group, “Despite all economic scenarios that one may consider, beyond overall economic shocks, medical technology should remain one of the most promising and robust sectors over the short to medium term and well beyond 2028.”
There is a movement towards home-based care for the elderly, next generation scanning and MRI devices, wearable technology, artificial intelligence incorporation, and online connectivity. Experts also see a focus on predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and precision medicine, with rising levels of integration of home care and technological innovation.
The average cost of treatment has been rising across the board, creating additional financial burdens to governments, healthcare providers and insurance companies. According to MCG, cost-per-inpatient-stay in the United States alone rose on average annually by over 13% between 2014 to 2021, leading MedTech to focus research efforts on optimized medical equipment at lower price points, whilst emphasizing portability and ease of use. Namely, 46% of the 1,008 medical technology companies in the 2021 MedTech Innovator (“MTI”) database are focusing on prevention, wellness, detection, or diagnosis, signaling a clear push for preventive care to also tackle costs.
In addition, there has also been a lasting impact on consumer and medical demand for home care, supported by the pandemic. Lockdowns, closure of care facilities, and healthcare systems subjected to capacity pressure, accelerated demand away from traditional inpatient care. Now, outpatient care solutions are driving industry production, with nearly 70% of recent diagnostics start-up companies producing products in areas such as ambulatory clinics, at-home care, and self-administered diagnostics.

Dharma Foundation of India
2. INTRODUCTION
The Indian aged population is currently the second largest in the world. The
absolute number of the over 60yrs age group in India will increase from 76 million
in 2001 to 137 million by 2021..
Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss
of interest, pleasure, feeling of guilt or low self worth, disturbed sleep/appetite, low
energy and poor concentration.
According to WHO, these problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to
substantial impairment in an individual’s ability to take care of his/her everyday
responsibilities.
Community based mental health studies have revealed that the point prevalence
of depressive disorders amongst the geriatric population in India varies between
13-25%.
According to WHO remaining active means maintaining one’s physical , social and
mental potential throughout the entire lifecycle, allowing the involvement of
elderly in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic activities.
3. GERIATRIC DEPRESSION
SCORE
The GDS is a 30-item self report assessment tool used to identify
depression in elderly and is thereby used as a standard outcome
measure in the current study.
GDS is not a substitute for a diagnostic interview by mental
health professionals.
It is a useful screening tool in the clinical setting to facilitate
assessment of depression in older adults especially when based
measurements are compared to subsequent scores.
It does not assess for suicidal tendencies.
4. Active ageing is the process of optimizing opportunities for
health, participation and security in order to enhance quality
of life as people age.
•Aim of the Study:
To find out the effect of Active Ageing Program in Improving
Geriatric Depression Score in Community Dwelling Elderly
•Significance of the Study:
If this study is found to be effective then Active ageing model can be
promoted in the community which in turn will reduce depression in old
age, making the elderly active, and allowing the involvement of the elderly
in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic activities.
5. METHODOLOGY
Study design: A longitudinal study design
Sampling method: Convenience sampling
Sample size: 119 community dwelling elderly

Paired t- test showed that the change in GDS score was statistically
highly significant (p=0.000); t value=5.12
15. DISCUSSION
WHO has promoted a process of optimizing opportunities for
health , participation and security amongst the elderly with an
aim of improving their quality of life.
According to a study conducted at the department of Medicine
and Prevention, University of Brazil, having higher schooling of
subjects (24.2%) and having an average monthly income greater
than 5 minutes was associated to better performance in the
environment domain of the QOL.
According to the Xavier et al having good health, good family
relationships, financial security, friends and work ability are
determinants of good and healthy living amongst elderly.
With the aim of imparting active ageing model within the
community, we ensured that the targeted elderly population
practices self care by taking valuable information though the
workshops and later with the respective textbooks distributed.
16. Mutual help therefore promises providing necessary information
regarding health, social and economic issues to other elderly
within the community, also having a follow up of the neighbor
elderly in terms of their health and further reporting to the local
supervisor/ leader who is in turn connected to the nodal person in
the healthcare.
Self promotion finally takes it’s shape where the self care and
mutual help completely established.
By promoting one’s own health as well as the health and social
status of the co-neighbour/ elderly raises his/ her standards of
better living in the community reducing the urgent/ immediate
panic at the time of emergency and also increases the bonding
which ensures individual’s self promotion.
In our study we observed a great improvement in the GDS score
within the elderly population. Parents/ elderly staying alone at
home showed a higher score on the GDS as compared to the
elderly living in a joint family.
17. There is significant improvement in the GDS
values Pre and Post Intervention at the
difference of six months.
Normal

Mild
(10-19)
Severe

Pre 76.5% 18.5% 4.50%
Post 85.7% 9.20% 2.50%
18. CONCLUSION
Active Ageing Model is a
success to reduce depression
in community dwelling elderly
population
The present study revealed
that the elderly living in a
nuclear family system are
more likely to be depressed as
compared to those in a joint
family system.
