Union County, Georgia.
County population with racial and gender breakdowns
As of July 1, 2015 estimates, the County population was 22, 267 individuals. Of this, 51.7% were Females, while as the males were 48.3%. The white people were 96.5%, the African Americans were 1.0%, the American Indian and Alaska Natives were 0.5%, Asians were 0.7%, Hispanics were 3.2%, and people with two or more races present accounted for 1.3%.
Number of Senior Citizens
The number of senior citizens was 32.5%.
Number of Disabled Individuals
The number of disabled individuals under the age of 65 was 13.9%.
Number of Children
The number of children was 16.1%.
Of the populations above, I choose the senior citizens. The first health concern for this population is elder abuse. At this age, this people are not able to actively take care of themselves like they would a while back. For this reason, they constantly required to be taken care of, in almost all the aspects of their lives. However, elder abuse is a common occurrence in which, the caregivers neglect this population so much, to the extent of some of them even dying. It is such a shame that such a thing might happen to such a delicate population. A second health concern for this population, is the risk of heath disease and other chronic diseases. According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is one of the leading killers for the senior citizens because at this age, they are delicate and their hearts are very weak (Motooka et al., 2006).
The senior citizens require a number of community health interventions and public policies, which are aimed at ensuring they lead a comfortable life. For instance, they should have access to caregivers when they cannot adequately take care of themselves (Takano, 2002). In addition, they should have access to proper diets, and they should be provided with as much assistance as possible when they are at home and in public places. They should also have regular medical check-ups, to ascertain their health conditions, as well as have access to a hospital and a personal doctor in case they need consultation before their regular sessions (Anderson, 2003). Regular exercises is also good for ensuring their lives are going on smoothly.

Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Improper diet, reduced fluid intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications can cause constipation. For example, patients receiving opiates for pain after surgery often require a stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation. The signs of constipation include infrequent bowel movements (less than every 3 days), difficulty passing stools, excessive straining, inability to defecate at will, and hard feaces
IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
HEMORRHOIDS

FLATULENCE

basic structure underlying the Healthy People 2020 is the product of collaborative efforts
among the advisory committee, public stakeholders, and the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services. Before Healthy People 2020, prior series were limited to certain
population groups, but Healthy People 2020 features “older people” as a topic. The wellness

education, research, and practice. Currently, 13% of the total population is at least sixty-five
years old, and by 2030, the total of individuals aged sixty-five and above is expected to rise
to 20%. As such, providing care to older adults is at the core of the nursing profession
(Buerhaus et al., 2002). Nursing actions that address the needs of older adults include
encouraging recommended health care examinations and screenings. Nurses can encourage
older adults to adhere to recommended annual screenings and exams such as complete
physical, blood glucose, blood pressure, and fecal occult blood tests. Nurses can also
encourage older adults to take screenings and tests such as hearing tests, dental exams,
glaucoma screening, visual acuity, and colonoscopy. For the older women, nurses can
recommend clinical and self-breast exams, Pap smears, digital rectal exam, mammogram,
and pelvic exam. For older men, nurses can recommend prostate exams, digital rectal
exams, and prostate exams (Nies & McEwen, 2015). Nurses can also SENIOR HEALTH 5
encourage fitness and physical activity because fitness and physical activity benefit the
older population in ways such as reducing falls, improving function status, strengthening
bones, reducing cholesterol and blood pressure, and preventing obesity (Nies & McEwen,

status, monitoring chronic illnesses, and monitoring medication use to guarantee safety.
Older adults need to be taught about possible undesirable reactions such as drug-food and
drug-drug reactions. As part of holistic care, nurses should address spiritual concerns, as
well as spiritual needs (Nies & McEwen, 2015). To address spiritual concerns, nurses can
facilitate religious practices, listen actively, extend a caring touch, have a non-judgmental
attitude, pray with and for the invalid, and refer to a spiritual care expert. Nurses must take
their role in End-of-Life Issues seriously. On admission, nurses must ask patients if they

health, wellness, and fitness that they so deserve. Nothing offers a person more comfort and
peace of mind more than being in top shape. The essence of life is to live happily and
without worrying about getting health complications at some point. We look at critical
objectives for the seniors. Engaging in physical activity is one of the most vital goals any
elderly should consider. Exercising plays a key role in making sure that someone is not only
fit enough but also healthy. You will learn that an exercise that has been approved by a
physician will often ensure that the senior remains strong for much longer. Physical
activities will usually ensure that they stay in control of their health at all times. Evidently,
exercising comes with a sense of satisfaction and happiness too. This way, you will enjoy
great peace of mind in the long run. Coupling exercises with suitable nutrition is imperative.
It will promote the health of body cells and even improve energy levels too. Getting enough
sleep is beneficial to any senior (Van Dam & Helm, 2016). It is during sleep that the body
rests, repairs, restores and even gets ready for a new day. Besides, enough sleep is essential
in addressing anxiety and depressive concerns. This way, it will play a vital role in
promoting mental health among seniors. Apart from that, it is valuable that the senior
appreciates the essence of socializing. Given how likely they have lost friends over the years,

to a couple of medical conditions. Over the years, various changes in aging demographics
have come about. With technological advancement and adoption of evidence-based
healthcare, there has been a decline in mortality rates among the aging. This way, there is a

Often, it happens among women who are past menopause. This loss of density in the bones
makes the elderly susceptible to injuries and frequent falling. Memory loss is not a new
phenomenon among the elderly. After attaining the age of 30, various processes and
functions within the body tend to slow down. For this reason, things like memory, hearing,
and even sight issues will arise. Besides, some people experience a compromised sense of
