Natural gas, the cheaper,
faster solution for your business
Over half of all Irish companies have taken action to improve their
energy efficiency in the last three years, according to a survey from the
Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Details of the survey
revealed that reducing energy costs is a key priority for Irish businesses.
One of the most effective cost saving measures is to change to a cheaper
source of fuel. For commercial customers, natural gas offers a more cost
effective alternative to using electricity, oil or LPG, and gives considerable
savings on annual fuel bills.
Changing to natural gas can generate savings of up to:
70% savings on switching from electricity
60% savings on switching from LPG (cylinders)
50% savings on switching from LPG (bulk)
40% savings on switching from oil
Source SEAI 2013
Natural gas can be used for almost all applications, including:
l Heating and hot water
l Air handling units
l Air conditioning/chillers
l Catering/cooking
l Electricity generation (Combined Heat and Power).
Financial benefits of
changing to natural gas
Natural gas is the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel available.
Our continued need for energy and the heightened awareness of our
environmental responsibilities has undoubtedly elevated the value of
natural gas in our lives. The use of natural gas instead of more polluting
fuels has resulted in considerably lower emissions of climate changing
greenhouse gases. In addition, natural gas offers customers a wide range
of benefits.
Natural gas . . .
l is piped directly to premises
l is always available and never has to be stored or ordered
l cannot be stolen
l remains competitively priced compared to other fuels
l has compact, unobtrusive and efficient boilers
l has appliances that come with many flueing options that are also
	 clean and quiet running
l is versatile with many uses such as cooking, heating and
	 tumble drying
l cannot be beaten for speed and controllability
l has a key contribution to make as a clean and efficient bridge to a
	 sustainable future

Natural gas network
Natural gas has a proven track record
in energy delivery to Irish businesses.
Whether you manage a high powered
industrial plant or run your own small
business, natural gas makes good
business sense for you.
Gas Networks Ireland, develops,
operates and maintains the natural
gas pipeline network in the Republic
of Ireland.
Gas Networks Ireland delivers natural gas through the pipeline network
on behalf of all gas suppliers, and is also responsible for connecting all
natural gas customers to the network.
Gas Networks Ireland has developed a transmission (high-pressure)
pipeline network of over 2,400km and a distribution (low/medium-
pressure) pipeline network of over 11,100km. The transmission system
is linked to the UK and international gas markets through two sub-sea
interconnectors. Gas Networks Ireland expands and upgrades the
network in Ireland to meet the growing demand for natural gas.
There are over 650,000 residential, commercial and industrial
customers connected to the gas network in Ireland. Natural gas is
currently available in over 160 population centres across 19 counties
throughout the country.
The Gas Networks Ireland Customer Charter
outlines our commitment to our customers and
the performance standards that we strive to
achieve.
The Customer Charter
is available at gasnetworks.ie

Getting connected
If you would like to get connected to natural gas please follow these steps:
1. Call Businesslink on 1850 411 511 and we will verify natural gas
availability in your area or the possibility of a connection to the
	 natural gas network.
2. A Gas Networks Ireland representative will contact you to discuss
your requirements and provide advice on what information you will
	 need to supply.
3. Submit this information, including any required plans,
	 to Gas Networks Ireland (plans@gasnetworks.ie).
4. Gas Networks Ireland will develop a pipeline networks design for
your development and a quotation will be issued to you along with
connection terms and conditions. For larger developments, there
may be a pre-payable charge for this work, which will be set against
chargable costs if the connection to the natural gas network goes
	 ahead.
5. If you wish to go ahead with the natural gas connection(s), the quoted
fee must be paid and a Connection Agreement signed prior to work
	 commencing.
6. Once payment is made, you will receive a receipt with connection
details and you will be contacted by Gas Networks Ireland local
personnel to arrange dates for the natural gas connection(s).
7. To get a meter installed and an actual supply of gas, you must sign
up with a natural gas supplier who will make arrangements with Gas
Networks Ireland for the installation work. A list of natural gas
suppliers operating in the Irish market will be attached to your
receipt letter or may be obtained from www.energycustomers.ie
8. Your Registered Gas Installer/Competent Person must issue you with

completed and tested to the Irish Gas Standards.
9. Gas Networks Ireland will collect the certificate from site and fit the
	 required meter(s).

will the required meter be fitted on the agreed date.

“The way we operate means that hot water usage
throughout the day can vary greatly. We operate
spinning classes at various times of the day while
other areas are open for individual training and
fitness coaching all day long. It means our hot water
demand is never the same every day. We needed
a solution that could provide hot water for all the
showers in one go for when classes end, but also a
package that works for us during the quieter times.
Using natural gas meant we didn’t need large
volumes of water to be kept hot all day and
therefore weren’t wasting energy and money when
demand was low.“
Chris Delooze, fitness instructor.
If you have any questions regarding getting connected
please contact Businesslink on 1850 411 511.

“Before we connected to natural gas we
were using more than 10 cylinders of
LPG a week. All our equipment was on
LPG so switching to natural gas saved
us over €12,000 a year which helped us
pay for our new equipment during our
renovations.”
Colm McDonagh, proprietor.

Run by former Munster player Chris Delooze, the gym has something for everyone with workout studios, exercise classes, free weights area and fitness machines. Trifit Gym, Sexton Street, Limerick Businesses benefitting now “The way we operate means that hot water usage throughout the day can vary greatly. We operate spinning classes at various times of the day while other areas are open for individual training and fitness coaching all day long. It means our hot water demand is never the same every day. We needed a solution that could provide hot water for all the showers in one go for when classes end, but also a package that works for us during the quieter times. Using natural gas meant we didn’t need large volumes of water to be kept hot all day and therefore weren’t wasting energy and money when demand was low.“ Chris Delooze, fitness instructor.
