treatment of partial onset seizures, with and
without secondary generalization, in adults and

Gabantin (Gabapentin capsules) are used to
treat various forms of epilepsy (seizures that
are initially restricted to certain parts of the
brain, whether the seizure spreads to other
parts of the brain or not) and Peripheral
neuropathic pain (long lasting pain caused
due to damage to the nerves)

➢Dosage for Treatment of Postherpetic
Neuralgia in Adults: In adults with postherpetic
neuralgia, Gabantin therapy may be started as
a single 300-mg dose on Day 1, 600 mg/day on
Day 2 (300 mg twice a day), and 900 mg/day
on Day 3 (300 mg thrice a day). The dose can
subsequently be increased as needed for pain
relief upto to a daily dose of 1800 mg (600 mg
thrice a day).

➢Dosage for Treatment of Epilepsy with
Partial Onset Seizures: For adult
patients (age 12 and above) the effective
dose of Gabapentin is 900 to 1800
mg/day and given in divided doses (three
times a day). The starting dose of
Gabantin Capsules is 300 mg three times
a day. If required, the dose may be
increased to up to 1800 mg/day using 3
divided doses

Gabantin (Gabapentin Capsules) have to
be stored at controlled room temperature
i.e. 25°C (77°F) with excursions
permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to
86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.
Warnings

In case of Reaction with Eosinophilia and
Systemic Symptoms (Multiorgan
hypersensitivity): discontinue immediately if
alternative etiology is not established
Anaphylaxis and Angioedema: discontinue
and evaluate patient immediately
Driving Impairment; Somnolence/Sedation
and Dizziness: Doctors must warn patients
not to drive until they have gained sufficient
experience to assess whether their ability to
drive or operate heavy machinery will be
impaired.

Increased seizure frequency may occur in
patients with seizure disorders if Gabantin
(Gabapentin Capsules) is abruptly
stopped.
Suicidal Behavior and Ideation:
monitor patients for suicidal
thoughts/behavior
Monitor for Neuropsychiatric adverse
reactions in children 3 to 12 years of
age.

Contraindications
Gabantin Capsules are
contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Gabapentin or any
other component of this medication.

➢Most common Gabapentin side effets
with an incidence rate of 8% or higher and
at least twice that for placebo were:
➢Postherpetic neuralgia: dizziness,
somnolence, and peripheral edema
➢Epilepsy in patients greater than 12
years of age: somnolence, dizziness,
ataxia, fatigue, and nystagmus
➢Epilepsy in patients 3 to 12 years of age:
viral infection, fever, nausea and/or
vomiting, somnolence, and hostility

In overdose cases, double vision, slurred
speech, drowsiness, lethargy, and diarrhea
have been observed.
All patients recovered with supportive care.
Coma, resolving with dialysis, has been
reported in patients with chronic renal
failure who were treated with Gabapentin
Capsules.

Gabapentin (Gabantin Capsules) can be
removed by hemodialysis. Although
hemodialysis has not been performed in
the few overdose cases reported, it may be
required by the patient's clinical state or in
patients with significant renal impairment.

Gabantin (Gabapentin Capsules) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
There are no adequate and well-controlled
studies in pregnant women. During studies
in mice, rats, and rabbits, Gabapentin was
developmentally toxic when administered
to pregnant animals at doses similar to or
lower than those used clinically. Gabantin
must be used during pregnancy only if the
potential benefit justifies the potential risk
to the fetus.
