UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed Essay...
UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed
Over the years Britain s pluralist electoral system has been scrutinised by many political and
pressure groups, such as the Liberal Democrats and the Electoral Reform Society. In their 1997
Manifesto, the Labour Party did state that they would look into the matter, by holding a
referendum on the issue, however there was no change as Labour had a large majority in 1997 and
Labour has preformed disappointingly in elections where Proportional Representation had been
used. The main electoral system in the UK should be reformed because the first past the post
system does not represent the electorate in a democratic manner. It also under represents ... Show

The system is also disproportionate, an example of this is can be shown in a study of the 2001
General Election.
From the 2001 General Election results, we can deliberately see that through our pluralist
electoral system, the system is disproportionate. We can see many examples of this]. The
percentage of votes to the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that
count, and judging by labour s landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even
gain a majority from voters but only from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they
received 18.3% of the electorate s votes, but only received less than half the percentage of seats
at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more votes than the Conservatives, but yet still
managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows that some parties, especially Labour
in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead eventually lead to a dangerous one
party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a Democracy. On average 70% of
votes are also wasted during a single election. We find that 100.0% of votes are accounted for, only
40.7% actually counted, therefore, votes a drastically wasted.

Networking instruments permit associations to enhance correspondence and profitability among
workers. Proficient online networking locales, for example, LinkedIn, permit your representatives

advances trust with representatives and cultivates a more community oriented environment.

Last Summer Travi $ Scott
Last summer Travi$ Scott released Days Before Rodeo, a free mixtape that wouldn t just serve as
the unofficial countdown for his debut album, but give listeners a sense of what the rapper
/producer is working with sonically. Pounding, acerbic drums, thick, hazy atmospheres, and a
confrontational predisposition would establish Scott as a fearless rising star in rap music. And
although the tape was a welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl
Pharaoh, it also did very little to invite the listener into Scott s world. Even if Scott had trouble
lining up his greatest attributes, his talent was certainly evident. His production choices, which
have been carefully excavated from the post 808s Heartbreakmusical landscape and Atlanta s grab
bag of innovations, can be intriguing, and his rebellious posturing certainly strikes a chord with a
certain angsty personality type. Those rare moments when he finds the right balance Basement
Freestyle is perhaps the best example can add up to something quite uncanny. With the clock no
longer ticking, Scott returns with Rodeo, an album that looks to position the 21 year old as a
curator of supreme taste, as well darken his already moody blues. At fourteen tracks Rodeo presents
blockbuster names (Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd), noteworthy rap
talent (Chief Keef, Future, Swae Lee, Quavo, Young Thug), and in demand producers (Metro
Boomin, Southside, TM88, Zaytoven, FKi, WondaGurl).

The Duality Of Filipino Culture In The Philippines
As we all know, Philippines is considered the largest Christian nation in Asia. In fact, the country
has 86% of the population as Roman Catholics and 6% represents variations of other Christian
cults and denominations. In the Filipino setting, the extended family is a huge part of his societal
unit. The children s closest friendship often come from within their own families. It is also a social
norm where the Father is in charge of making decisions for their home. It is also common that one
child remains at home with the parents and grandparents to take care of them. This child, given the
fact that he is at home with his or her family, is not necessarily living with a spouse. For in the
Filipino setting, even the extended family may stay at home with their grandparents. Some
grandchildren may be given to their grandparents at times to raise. And indigent family members
are also there to help to raise and take care of the children. Filipino families are so close that
cousins treat each other as siblings and nieces and nephews are referred to as one s one child. It is
also a trend wherein young children are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Canada Goose Persuasive Essay
In order for us to enter the luxury fashion market, I have three suggestions that would not only
improve the public perception of the brand but also increase our profit. Currently, Nunnavut Puffin
is more well known for the functionality of the jackets, rather than for our values as luxury goods.
Unlike Canada Gooseand Moncler, which are perceived as luxury goods, rather than merely
outwear, we have a smaller range of products, our price range is lower, and also we lack efficient
marketingstrategies. Because Canada Goosealso started as an outdoor apparel company, we will be
able to transition to a luxury outwear brand if we look closely at the history of Canada Goose and
benchmark them.
First, we need to redesign our logo. Luxury outwear brands like Moncler and Canada Goose are
represented by their unique logos. When someone wears Canada Goose, you recognize the jacket
he or she is wearing because of the logo. Their marketing strategies take advantage of human
psychology that we like to show off and prove to others how much we can spend on a winter coat
that we are only wearing in winter. In order to shift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

be imprinted on the American consciousness. They sponsored cold weather film festivals where
the Hollywood crowd could cosplay for a week as snow bunnies. We know from examples from
various industries that celebrities often have a huge impact on consumers decision because
consumers admire celebrities and want to be like them. This can be illustrated by Adidas Yeezy,
an official collaboration sneaker by Kanye West and Adidas. Taking advantage of Kanye West s
fame, Adidas successfully not only marketed their products but also acquired significant amount of
revenue. If we follow these examples and sponsor Hollywood events, we will see the effects that

Nonconformity allows people to go against a prevailing rule so that they may do as they please.
QuoteCommentary ...the hypocrisy of his parents lifestyle, the tyranny of their conditional love.
Eventually, Chris rebelled and when he finally did it was with characteristic immoderation
(64).The beginning of this excerpt shows Chris disapproval of his parent s way of life. He uses
the phrase tyranny of their conditional love, to imply that he wants to escape their oppressive rule.
This relates to the theme of nonconformity because in the end Chris rebels and refuses to give in to
his parents. He left them and went into the wild, giving away his college fund to OXFAM and
refusing to accept the new car his parents offered him. Alex demonstrates nonconformity by

promptly reduced to ash and smoke (29).This exemplifies the extreme view Chris had against the
possession of materials. His journal recalls this act of burning money right after he abandoned his
car. Burning his possessions was a way to appease his need to be entirely on his own. Chris shows
his distaste for material things in burning his money because now he cannot buy the things in life
that are not needed. Through his actions Chris demonstrates his detachment from money and his
disinterest in material goods. Related Material

AIDS Denialism And AIDS Conspiracies
Political leadership is vital to influencing people s beliefs in the credibility of AIDS conspiracies.
Charismatic leaders also plant the seeds of denialism in the minds of the general public, which
fuels AIDS denialism and AIDS conspiracies. For example, influential leaders such as Louis
Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, Will Smith, Spike Lee, and Bill Cosby have stated that HIVis being
used as an agent to harm the black community. For example, Louis Farrakhanㄧleader of The
Nation of Islam promoted the ineffective AIDSdrug Kermon as a nostrum to the black community.
Kermon was introduced in the 1990 s after a clinical trial study conducted by the Kenyan Medical
Research Institution, and published results from the study concluded that the drug improved the
health of AIDS patients and even resulted in some patients sero reverting to an HIV negative status
(Nattrass 2012).
In conclusion, HIV scientists being skeptical about the drug due to the inconsistencies within the
clinical trial, Kermon was heavily promoted in the African American community. Farrakhan sold
Kermon to AIDS patients through clinics operated by the Nation of Islam. During this time, The
Nation of Islam s publication Final Call promoted conspiracy theories about the man made origin
of AIDS, and claimed that FDA approved antiretrovirals were poisonous and a part of a white
conspiracy to kill blacks (Epstein 1996). Louis Farrakhan assisted in promoting AIDS conspiracy
beliefs while advocating for an ineffective

The Cold War And Postmodern Eras
America is often said to envelop in culture of fear. American elites have established this supremacy
by the means of propaganda. From the Cold War to the War on Terror, these elites have maintained
power along with the American
Government to make sure they have control of their consumers. This has been accomplished with
the establishment of an American foreign policy that has helped create a bipolar world. It allows
America to focus on its interest and create a myth that the American people have a destiny to
fulfill in the world. Thus understanding the implications of a foreign policy and use of propaganda
as a way to inject fear into the American society is the tool that would be used during the Cold War
and Postmodern eras. It is then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cold War was established after World War 2, where tensions between American and the
Soviet Union had created two sides. On March 12, 1947, the Truman Doctrine would establish
the set of ideas for a bipolar world. The Truman Doctrine was America s foreign policy that would
be the building block for America s foreign interests from 1947 1991 (Donaldson pg.35).
According to Andrew Bacevich, an American historian specializing in international relations,
security studies, American foreign policy, and American diplomatic and military history, wrote,
Foreign policy has, for decades, provided an outward manifestation of American domestic
ambitions, urges, and fears (Bacevich pg.5). Foreign policy would be the underlining factor that
would direct America in its conflicts against the Soviet Union. The doctrine was a speech given
by Truman, asking congress for the funding to stop the Communist expansion. Truman wanted to
prevent the domino theory where if one country fell to Communism, the others around it would
soon follow. The Red Scare was already forming even before World War 2 but did not catch on
until the late 40s. The first Red Scare was formed under the bipolar world, which sought to rid
communism from America through labeling. The civil rights movement in 1947 was cut short by
the first Red Scare, as they were labeled as communists (Donaldson pg.17). The elitists would take

The National Oceanic And Atmospheric Association Defines...
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association defines captive breeding as Raising animals
(or plants) in controlled conditions to produce stock for subsequent release into the wild. Some
captive breeding programs include departments within zoos, rescues, and sanctuaries where
animals or plants are kept in enclosures and bred to produce future generations of their species.
The focus of captive breeding programs is on rare, threatened, and endangered species therefore, it
is used as a much needed last resort strategy. The use of captive breeding for species conservation
has become an integral part of the global conservation plan and is employed by modern
conservationists.
Environmentalist, Robert Swan, once said that The greatest ... Show more content on

The main goal of captive breeding is to help conserve animals that are endangered or threatened
in the wild so that a species does not become extinct. By holding the worlds species in captivity,
we can save their genetic material from complete elimination. Other advantages of captured
breeding include the following: A recreation of the natural habitat, protection from predators, and
a decrease in illness or malnutrition that they would otherwise suffer from in the wild (Primrack,
361). Breeding programs also enrich the populations of animal species. Cross breeding can
increase the gene pool of an animal s species, and most importantly, animals that are hurt, injured,
or need intense care will receive it in captivity. Captive breeding focuses mainly on threatened
species with low diversity. For example, there are many bird species that are declining in
population more and more every day. The threats that have led to their decline include habitat loss,
degradation, invasive species, and exploitation. Researchers found that, Sixteen species of birds
would have gone extinct in the absence of conservation intervention (Butchart, 268). Overall,
captive breeding slowed their rate of decline and prevented extinction by successfully addressing
main threats, such as habitat destruction and pollution. Captive breeding may be a last resort
solution however, with the rapid increase of natural

Thomas Paine And His Father
Philosopher Thomas Paine Thomas Paine was born in Norfolk, England on January 29, 1737 to
a middle income family. His father was a Quaker while his mother was an Anglican, therefore,
constant family arguments about religion became part of Thomas life (Stanford Encyclopedia
of Philosophy 2). He did not have much of formal education as he quit schooling at the age of
thirteen years and began working for his father. He was baptized in the Anglican Church that his
mother attended. His father had forbidden him from learning the Latin language while he was in
school though he wanted to learn it. His father specialized in craft staymaking and this was the
skill that Thomas learned while working for his father (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy 2).
Thomas had tried running away from home twice, failing in his first escape, but was successful
in the second. He escaped to London and then went to Margate where he continued to work as a
craft staymaker. He also preached in a church called Methodist persuasion. It was during this
time that he married Mary Lambert who died during childbirth (Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy 2). Several incidents had a significant impact on the life of Thomas such as working
as an officer in an excise service, teaching in a school in London, as well as being appointed a
member of the debating society at the Headstrong Club. Thomas later married Elizabeth Ollive in
the year 1771. Thomas died on 8th June 1809 in Greenwich Village in New York City in

The Year Of 2013 And My Bowling Career

The Importance Of Public Surveillance
With the increase in public surveillance by governments and big coperations, there has grown a
need to combat it and its effects on society today. It s mainly a question of privacy to everyone,
can we really trust him, so what s Public surveillance and automated face recognition? Public
Surveillance is the monitoring of conduct, exercises, or other changing data to influence, oversee,
coordinate or protect individuals. This can incorporate the use of Closed Circuit Television
(CCTV) or capturing of electronically transmitted data, for example, through phone calls. Besides
that, it s no longer a dusk to dawn activity but 24/7. Automated Face Recognition can be best
described as the use of specialised software to identify individuals in digital images or videos
using sophisticated algorithms that are linked to databases. This kind of software is able to
compare several facial features of a person and uniquely identify them amongst a million others
accurately.
In 2013, the act of public surveillance and automated face recognition by world governments was
raised after Edward Snowden exposed the global surveillance documents. Revealing in view of
archives Snowden spilled to different media outlets set off an open deliberation about common
freedoms and the privilege to security in this Digital Age. So how is it carried out. As stated above
surveillance is mainly carried out by governments with the help of big coperations and security

Women And Women In Giovanni Boccaccio And Francesco Barbaro
Giovanni Boccaccio and Francesco Barbaro provides for not only the men, but women in Italian
society their conventional opinion on the perfect example of how a wife should act and behave in
order to keep the domestic life at peace and whole. Through their story and most gracious outlook
on a woman s life, we can see what a marriagewas life during this time. Based upon reading
Boccaccio s Decameron X, the story of the Count of Panago, Gualtieri and his peasant born wife,
Griselda, as well as Barbaro s On Wifely Duties, one may conclude that Barbaro would have
considered Griselda a good wife. In the story, Griselda endured the severe and unheard of trials
that Gualtieri imposed upon her and remained not only tearless but a happy face. From the
presuming murder of their own children to telling Griselda she will no longer be his wife, and
be sent back to her poor, little house from where she came, Griselda concealed her misery and
unhappiness, with silence and no tears. Many ways in her behavior indicates Griselda was the
perfect wife during the Renaissance, according to Barbaro; firstly, her obedience. Barbaro wrote
that obedience to the husband was the most important component in a marriage. In order that a
wife does her duty and brings peace and harmony to her household, she must agree to the first
principle that she does not disagree with her husband on any point. Barbaro implies stealthily that
if a wife does not do her duty in agreeing and obeying her husband, she

Analysis Of Master Grimke In The Novel The Invention Of...
In the novel The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, Master Grimke is given two different
poses on the take of the laws in Charleston, each are seen when he is put under different
circumstances of public view and private view. In private he seems to sympathize with the
female population and the slave laws whereas in public he concedes to the idea of anything that
goes against the laws and social standards that he abides to. Master Grimke might have been
viewed as a man that only lived by the laws and social standards of Charleston, but in private he
allows his daughter, young Sarah Grimke, to have extra lessons and the permission to read
advanced books even though in those days women were not permitted to have the same level of

Essay about Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism
Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism
Throughout the history of man, philosophers have tried to come up with an explanation of where
our minds, or consciousness, came from and how we are able to have a nonphysical characteristic
of ourselves. Does our physical brain automatically give us nonphysical characteristics like feelings,
thoughts, and desires or is there something else there, the mind, that interacts with our bodies and
makes us feel, think, and desire? Also, is the mind the only nonphysical entity in our universe or do
other entities exist such as ghosts or souls? One man came up with a theory to explain the two
different properties in our universe in which he called Dualism. Hopefully with his theory of ...

Therefore, humans are composed of two types of substance: physical and nonphysical.
According to Descartes, our minds and bodies causally interact with one another almost all of the
time. Meaning that events and states in our mind can cause physical events in our bodies and vice
versa. For example, a tack puncturing your foot (a physical event) causes you to feel pain (a
mental event) and causes you to say ouch, (a physical event)
(Barcalow, pg. 72). As a result, the term Interactionism was used to explain the relation between
the physical and mental. Descartes theory of Substance Dualism was his best way of explaining
human life and how our minds are able to interact with our bodies. Of course, not everyone is
going to agree with Descartes theory. There are many objections one can make about Substance
Dualism, but mainly there are three. First of all, some believe causal interaction between the body
and mind is a physical phenomenon. For example, throwing a baseball is the result of one s arm
being swung back in a smooth motion and using force to release the ball (science has proven that
force is physical). What caused the arm to throw the baseball? The muscles in the arm contracted,
thus the arm raised. The electrical impulses that originated in the brain told the arm to throw the
ball. Some people

Not only teenagers and middle aged adults, but even young children are addicted to staring down
at a blue screen. How many times during the past year have you walked by a playground and

When I was nine years old, I remember what my favorite thing to do after school was. It was to
play. Similar to every other child at the time, running around an open field or zipping down a
slide was all I wanted. But today, the hushed silence I experience as I walk past the devoid park
gives me chills as I watch the swings and slides wait to give joy to laughing children that used to
frolic here everyday, but now remain quiet in their secluded houses. Not because it s cold outside,
but because nine year olds today are copying our technological obsession. Did you know that on
average, children get their first cellphones at age eight? Our generation is becoming the most
antisocial generation yet. Although many people disagree and believe that using technology,

International Contracts And International Sale Contracts
A conflict of laws is a major issue that usually arises in international commercial transactions.
International characters in the transaction create questions, such as which court has jurisdiction
over the case, which law is applicable to the case and will the judgment enforceable. One possible
way to avoid the risk of a conflict of laws is to harmonise laws relating to international sales into
uniform law or a convention for worldwide adoption. The United NationsConvention on Contracts
for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), known as the Vienna Convention, is one of the results
from the harmonisation of international trade law. Although there are many supports to this
convention, the argument of its effectiveness still continues and some countries still not ratify.
International sale contracts are not quite similar to domestic sale contracts as the international
character cannot be found in domestic contracts. The first character is the movement of goods
which travel from one state to another state, no matter where the seller s and the buyer s places of
business are. Another character is the different places of business of both parties which means that
both parties have different legal systems. Involving with property, parties or events located in more
than one jurisdiction and the laws of those jurisdictions are different, a conflict of laws issue might
arise in a dispute between parties. The differences between laws of each country also create
uncertainty in

Life In The Iron-Mills By Rebecca Harding Davis
The short story Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis is about a town that centers
around an iron mill and the workers whose lives revolve around the mill. At the beginning of the
story, this becomes evident when the narrator says, The mills were deserted on Sundays, except
by the hands who fed the fires, and those who had no lodgings and slept usually on the ash heaps
(1715). The only day that there are not workers at the iron mill is on Sunday because most of
Sunday is spent at church. In the short story, Davis begins to suggest that there are strong, spiritual
elements throughout the story. Most people who think about God believe that God and faith can
bring those who are struggling out of the dark cloud that seems to be encompassing their lives.
That is how Davis is trying to show the role of the church and trying to show that the people in the
iron mill town need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Davis argues that the Spirit of God is needed to liberate the poor iron workers from their
depression. The church is supposed to be able to lift up those who need help. In so doing, the story
examines a system that was being developed and used in the mid nineteenth century in which
churches created an infrastructure within their existing spiritual framework to be proactive,
organized, and responsible for the economic welfare of the poor.
Wolfe s story reveals why the solution to the social problem methods of charity is still veiled. In
the time period the story took place, middle and upper class people always felt so great about
themselves when giving money to the poor because they thought they were helping charity cases .
Now, and probably back in the time of the iron mills

A Problem for the Aviation Industry Essay
Section 217: A Problem for the Aviation Industry
On a cold February evening in 2009, just outside the city of Buffalo, New York, two pilots crashed
a new aircraft on final approach to land into Buffalo Niagara International Airport. In an effort to
prevent an accident of a similar nature from happening, the U.S. Congress passed H.R. 5900, the
Airline Safety and Federal Aviation AdministrationExtension Act. This bill under Title II was
aimed to enhance airline safety and in part prevent an accident of this nature from occurring again
(U.S. House 2010). Section 217 of the bill pushes the minimum hours required to act as a pilot on
a regional carrier up to 1,500 total flight hours and requires those persons to do an extensive Air ...

Asia s economy is booming and this has resulted in the growth of many startup carriers that offer
tax free salaries and free housing for pilots with less than 1500 hours a very attractive opportunity.
This may cause a potential migration of pilots that would lead to many U.S. airlines having planes
but no one qualified to fly them.
Further contributing to the shortage is that the cost to become a pilot is already expensive,
causing low interest in the field; this law would make it even worse. By calculation, if a
potential pilot were to start today, he would probably be facing a debt of between $50,000 and
$80,000 just to receive the flight training required to gain 250 hours (Chatterjee). Added to this
is the cost of attending a college with an accredited program. Potential pilots could be looking at
paying well over $200,000 in loans to be able to fly. Before this law passed, pilots were assured that
if they worked hard and passed through all the training received from college and flight school
they would be able to become a pilot with one of the regional carriers and make a small salary
while obtaining the required hours for one of the major carriers. Now, even this option has been
taken away by the government because of the new hour requirement. Many pilots will have to
look for work at their local airport for two or even three years without a steady pay in order to get a
job which will only

Easy, Breazy, Beautiful Cover Girl Campaign
Beauty is an ideal that materializes in all different types of women. This notion is one that a
majority of women across the world learn to strive for. They fill their lives with daily routines that
maintain an image as close to perfection as they can. Exercising, putting on accessories, picking
their outfit of the day and attempting to apply varying amounts makeup for an effortless look is a
lifestyle common to many womem. Despite these notions, CoverGirlpromotes a message that one s
own look is not as strenuous as countless women believe it to be and that applying makeup every
day does not imply that women are required to create masks or layers of fake skin to feel
beautiful. Makeup should simply be an aid for women who need that extra boost of confidence for
the day. CoverGirl proves this to their loyal customers through their Easy, Breezy, Beautiful,
CoverGirl campaign. This slogan explains their goal; it highlights the importance of natural beauty
and embodies the idea of simply enhancing that beauty with just a touch of their makeup.
Advertisements can deceive with the words that they say and the images they show, but there are
always stronger factors that overcome the hidden assumptions in every advertisement. In the end,
the audience is persuaded to seek the product and the goal of the advertisement has been achieved.

women have a natural glow and beauty that can be

Women in the French Revolution:
The Ultimate Failure of Women s Acquisition of Equal Rights The French Revolution has often
been touted as the revolution that liberated individuals and gave triumph to traditionally oppressed
groups. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, which was France s declaration of rights
drafted during the revolution, garnered basic human rights to all man, leaving all women as a
subservient afterthought. Due to this oversight, many women as well as some men began to
challenge exactly who deserved these rights and demanded equality for all women. While
ultimately failing in Revolutionary France, the radical women s movements ... Show more content

Women also decided to band together and create movements in support of women s rights.
Political clubs such as The Confederation of the Friends of Truth began accepting females. A
political group associated with The Friends of Truth was called Cercle Social (Social Circle).
This group was a movement for equality for women and included Condorcet as on of its members.
In an address to The Friends of Truth, Etta Palm D Aelders, a prominent female figurehead among
the club, makes a statement to the general male public outlining overall female sentiment: From
now on we should be your voluntary companions and not your slaves. Let us merit your
attachment...And if devotion to study, if patriotic zeal, if virtue itself, which rests so often on love
of glory, is as natural to us as to you, why do we not receive the same education and the same mean
to acquire them?[5]
Here, Palm asks why women continue to experience prejudice and why, if they are just as
passionate and capable, are women kept in a state of perpetual ignorance. Such were the nature of
most of the female activists and various political groups. There was one point, however, when the

Starbucks decided that a better loyalty program through the Starbucks Card was necessary. This
program gave frequent customers better incentives such as free refills or a free birthday coffee
(Starbucks Website, 2011). One of Starbuck s strengths was also a weakness. It was huge. The
Starbuck s growth surge had caused it to lose its corner coffee shop appeal. People were starting
to view it as a huge conglomerate and not just a place to go have a great cup of coffee. Schultz

The Worst Time Of My Life
Tissues boxes, and powerade bottles cover my floor as I lie in my bed wishing it would be over.
It hurts to move and even worse when I try to lay on my left side, I hate having to bear through

technology and knowledge. Also, in this fast changing business world, responding faster should be
more appropriate. The firms that pursue agglomeration always take slower action than other do
since they focus their resources on specific region and it is difficult for them to move or to exploit

Future Research and Conclusion
For future research, an issue that interested me is the increasing of cultural convergence. Can
MNCs leverage resources and standardize organizational practices across cultural boundaries? In
my opinion, it is possible but really difficult to achieve even the world is becoming more global
since there is no truly 100% globalization. Globalization does not mean that every country will
become the same but it makes people realize the differences between them when they move out of
their shells. When a firm goes abroad different strategy will be used differently on each country so
there is no universal strategy or standardize organizational practices.

In his clinical observations Freud found evidence for the mental mechanisms of repression and
resistance. He described repression as a device operating unconsciously to make the memory of
painful or threatening events inaccessible to the conscious mind. Resistance is defined as the
unconscious defense against awareness of repressed experiences in order to avoid the resulting
anxiety. He traced the operation of unconscious processes, using the free associations of the
patient to guide him in the interpretation of dreams and slips of speech. Dream analysis led to his
discoveries of infantile sexuality and of the so called Oedipus complex, which constitutes the
erotic attachment of the child for the parent of the opposite sex, together with hostile feelings
toward the other parent. In these years he also developed the theory of transference, the process
by which emotional attitudes, established originally toward parental figures in childhood, are
transferred in later life to others. The end of this period was marked by the appearance of Freud s
most important work, The Interpretation of Dreams (1900). Here Freud analyzed many of his
own dreams recorded in the 3 year period of his self analysis, begun in 1897. This

Gregory Bateson And His Quest

Gregory Bateson and his Quest to Unify our Minds
Introduction: Thesis and introduce good old Gregory...1/2 page Gregory Bateson was an
anthropologist, psychoanalyst, and cybernetics who contributed to multiple subfields within
anthropology along with other fields in the social sciences. Bateson never completely settled into
one field, but rather, he synthesized his knowledge to incorporate it into his epistemology and
methodologies. Gregory Bateson s contributions to anthropology range from providing new
methods of ethnography, helping to establish the field of visual anthropology, influencing
ecological, psychological, and linguistics anthropology, to moving cybernetic theory from the
natural sciences to the social sciences.
Background, Education, and Influences: 1 to 2 pages Gregory Bateson was born in
Grantchester, England to an aristocratic family in 1904 (Stagoll 2006). His father, William
Bateson, was a prominent geneticist who founded the Cambridge School of Genetics and coined
the term genetics (Stagoll 2006). William Bateson was a strong advocate of the work of
geneticist Gregor Mendel and named Gregory in his honor (Stagoll 2006). Following in his father
s footsteps, Gregory Bateson received his bachelor s degree in natural sciences at St. Johns at
Cambridge where his grandfather, William Henry Bateson, held the position of master (Levy and
Rappaport 1982). After publishing his first paper about

High School Curriculum And Our Future
High School Curriculum and Our Future: When was the last time you thought about your future?
These days, many school systems are requiring their students to fill our career planning forms as
young as elementary school. By the time you have reached the high school level, you should
have a pretty good idea of what you want to do with your life. You may change your mind over
time, but you should at least be thinking about your future at this stage, because your future is
approaching faster than you might want to believe. Part of your concern should be on whether or
not you are prepared to face the real world when you step out of the doors of your high schoolfor the
last time. When you receive your diploma in that graduation line, are you really going to be
prepared to study at a university or start working a regular job? If the answer is no, then your high
school curriculum might not be focusing on the future of the students. A high school curriculum
that focuses on the future is a high school curriculum that prepares students for the future. First, let
s think about the different versions of high school curriculums. All of them include the basics such
as mathematics, English, and so on. However, there are others that include computer applications,
online coding, business/economics mathematics, and more in depth subjects such as these. These
more advanced curriculums are taking into consideration the fact that students aren t going to grow
up doing homework for a living,

Depression Internal Struggles
Depression: An Internal Struggle
Depression is a serious mental disorder that can affect anyone. No one is immune to depression,
it is not always avoidable, and it doesn t affect everyone in the same way. Everyone that has
suffered through depression has a different story about it. Depression has affected over 19
million people in the United States. It is the leading cause of disability for people ages 15 to 44
in the United States, and it is sometimes referred to as the common cold of mental illnesses
because it is so common. Depression is not something that is always visible and it is often hidden
by those that have it. It is important to understand depression in order to be more aware of the
causes, symptoms, and types of the condition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A doctor will often start by doing a physical exam to rule out any physical health issues. A doctor
will also use tests or screenings to rule out any major illnesses. Following this the doctor will ask
the patients questions about their overall mood, feelings, thoughts, and medical history to help
determine one s symptoms. Doctors will often ask these questions through questionnaires designed
to help diagnose depression or mental illnesses. A patient s answers to questions will help doctors

Ambiguity of American Gothic Fiction

Ambiguity of American Gothic Anxieties
Since the 19h century, American Gothic fiction started to exist independently from the British type.
In fact, the latter was marked by its use of fantastic, externalized and metaphysical elements as
opposed to the boundaries of American Gothic fiction in which were expressed by historical,
internalized, racial and psychological characteristics. (Edwards, XVII) In Edgar Allan Poe s The
Raven, Fall of the House of Usher and The Tell tale heartand The narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym
and in Charles Broken Brown s Edgar Huntly expresses a transformation of certain gothic
conventions to an American setting which are the result of 19th century ... Show more content on

In many gothic fictions, Native Americans are the villains of the story, as white American
writers have projected their sense of evil upon the native inhabitants. (Crow 137) This negative
image towards this group is the reality of the 19th century anxiety of miscegenation, and the fear
of wilderness. A shadowed forest, the possibility of an Indian lurking in the dark ready to attack
and the unknown are features of the wilderness in which created boundaries from the civilized
town to the savage forest, from consciousness and waking to unconscious and dreaming. In
Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the feeling of dread and the unknown draws itself into
Brown s mind as he journeys into the gloomy forest. Brown, like most Americans, drew negative
images of Native Americans and their land of wilderness as he spoke: There may be a devilish
Indian behind every tree. (Hawthorne, 606) Moreover, when Brown reaches the witch meeting, he
sees Indians or powwow priests interacting in the evil ritual with people who follow puritan beliefs.
The hypocritical aspect of Goodman Brown s community is still seen as less demonic than that of
the Indians, as they are always portrayed as the lesser breed . Goodman Brown attest that the
natives who had often scared their native forest with more hideous incantations than any known to
English witchcraft (Hawthorne 612).
Conveyed as demonic and adversary creatures, Indians were a common

In their 1997 Manifesto, the Labour Party did state that they would look into the matter, by holding a referendum on the issue, however there was no change as Labour had a large majority in 1997 and Labour has preformed disappointingly in elections where Proportional Representation had been used. The main electoral system in the UK should be reformed because the first past the post system does not represent the electorate in a democratic manner. It also under represents ... From the 2001 General Election results, we can deliberately see that through our pluralist electoral system, the system is disproportionate. We can see many examples of this]. The percentage of votes to the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that count, and judging by labour s landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even gain a majority from voters but only from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they received 18.3% of the electorate s votes, but only received less than half the percentage of seats at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more votes than the Conservatives, but yet still managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows that some parties, especially Labour in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead eventually lead to a dangerous one party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a Democracy. On average 70% of votes are also wasted during a single election. We find that 100.0% of votes are accounted for, only 40.7% actually counted, therefore, votes a drastically wasted. Last Summer Travi $ Scott Last summer Travi$ Scott released Days Before Rodeo, a free mixtape that wouldn t just serve as the unofficial countdown for his debut album, but give listeners a sense of what the rapper /producer is working with sonically. Pounding, acerbic drums, thick, hazy atmospheres, and a confrontational predisposition would establish Scott as a fearless rising star in rap music. And although the tape was a welcome shift from the amateurish shlock that plagued his debut tape Owl Pharaoh, it also did very little to invite the listener into Scott s world. Even if Scott had trouble lining up his greatest attributes, his talent was certainly evident. His production choices, which have been carefully excavated from the post 808s Heartbreakmusical landscape and Atlanta s grab bag of innovations, can be intriguing, and his rebellious posturing certainly strikes a chord with a certain angsty personality type. Those rare moments when he finds the right balance Basement Freestyle is perhaps the best example can add up to something quite uncanny. Canada Goose Persuasive Essay In order for us to enter the luxury fashion market, I have three suggestions that would not only improve the public perception of the brand but also increase our profit. Currently, Nunnavut Puffin is more well known for the functionality of the jackets, rather than for our values as luxury goods. Unlike Canada Gooseand Moncler, which are perceived as luxury goods, rather than merely outwear, we have a smaller range of products, our price range is lower, and also we lack efficient marketingstrategies. Because Canada Goosealso started as an outdoor apparel company, we will be able to transition to a luxury outwear brand if we look closely at the history of Canada Goose and benchmark them. First, we need to redesign our logo. Luxury outwear brands like Moncler and Canada Goose are represented by their unique logos. When someone wears Canada Goose, you recognize the jacket he or she is wearing because of the logo. According to Andrew Bacevich, an American historian specializing in international relations, security studies, American foreign policy, and American diplomatic and military history, wrote, Foreign policy has, for decades, provided an outward manifestation of American domestic ambitions, urges, and fears (Bacevich pg.5). Foreign policy would be the underlining factor that would direct America in its conflicts against the Soviet Union. Truman wanted to prevent the domino theory where if one country fell to Communism, the others around it would soon follow. The main goal of captive breeding is to help conserve animals that are endangered or threatened in the wild so that a species does not become extinct. By holding the worlds species in captivity, we can save their genetic material from complete elimination. Other advantages of captured breeding include the following: A recreation of the natural habitat, protection from predators, and a decrease in illness or malnutrition that they would otherwise suffer from in the wild (Primrack, 361). Breeding programs also enrich the populations of animal species. Cross breeding can increase the gene pool of an animal s species, and most importantly, animals that are hurt, injured, or need intense care will receive it in captivity. Captive breeding focuses mainly on threatened species with low diversity. For example, there are many bird species that are declining in population more and more every day. The threats that have led to their decline include habitat loss, degradation, invasive species, and exploitation. Researchers found that, Sixteen species of birds would have gone extinct in the absence of conservation intervention (Butchart, 268). Through their story and most gracious outlook on a woman s life, we can see what a marriagewas life during this time. Based upon reading Boccaccio s Decameron X, the story of the Count of Panago, Gualtieri and his peasant born wife, Griselda, as well as Barbaro s On Wifely Duties, one may conclude that Barbaro would have considered Griselda a good wife. In the story, Griselda endured the severe and unheard of trials that Gualtieri imposed upon her and remained not only tearless but a happy face. From the presuming murder of their own children to telling Griselda she will no longer be his wife, and be sent back to her poor, little house from where she came, Griselda concealed her misery and unhappiness, with silence and no tears. Many ways in her behavior indicates Griselda was the perfect wife during the Renaissance, according to Barbaro; firstly, her obedience. Barbaro wrote that obedience to the husband was the most important component in a marriage. In order that a wife does her duty and brings peace and harmony to her household, she must agree to the first principle that she does not disagree with her husband on any point. • 25. Essay about Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism Throughout the history of man, philosophers have tried to come up with an explanation of where our minds, or consciousness, came from and how we are able to have a nonphysical characteristic of ourselves. Does our physical brain automatically give us nonphysical characteristics like feelings, thoughts, and desires or is there something else there, the mind, that interacts with our bodies and makes us feel, think, and desire? Also, is the mind the only nonphysical entity in our universe or do other entities exist such as ghosts or souls? One man came up with a theory to explain the two different properties in our universe in which he called Dualism. Hopefully with his theory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, humans are composed of two types of substance: physical and nonphysical. According to Descartes, our minds and bodies causally interact with one another almost all of the time. Meaning that events and states in our mind can cause physical events in our bodies and vice versa. For example, a tack puncturing your foot (a physical event) causes you to feel pain (a mental event) and causes you to say ouch, (a physical event) (Barcalow, pg. 72). As a result, the term Interactionism was used to explain the relation between the physical and mental. Descartes theory of Substance Dualism was his best way of explaining human life and how our minds are able to interact with our bodies. Of course, not everyone is going to agree with Descartes theory. There are many objections one can make about Substance Dualism, but mainly there are three. First of all, some believe causal interaction between the body and mind is a physical phenomenon. For example, throwing a baseball is the result of one s arm being swung back in a smooth motion and using force to release the ball (science has proven that force is physical). What caused the arm to throw the baseball? The muscles in the arm contracted, thus the arm raised. The electrical impulses that originated in the brain told the arm to throw the ball. Some people ... How many times during the past year have you walked by a playground and heard the contagious laughter of young children playing? I bet that this number is very small. Similar to every other child at the time, running around an open field or zipping down a slide was all I wanted. But today, the hushed silence I experience as I walk past the devoid park gives me chills as I watch the swings and slides wait to give joy to laughing children that used to frolic here everyday, but now remain quiet in their secluded houses. Not because it s cold outside, but because nine year olds today are copying our technological obsession. Did you know that on average, children get their first cellphones at age eight? • 29. International Contracts And International Sale Contracts A conflict of laws is a major issue that usually arises in international commercial transactions. International characters in the transaction create questions, such as which court has jurisdiction over the case, which law is applicable to the case and will the judgment enforceable. One possible way to avoid the risk of a conflict of laws is to harmonise laws relating to international sales into uniform law or a convention for worldwide adoption. The United NationsConvention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), known as the Vienna Convention, is one of the results from the harmonisation of international trade law. Although there are many supports to this convention, the argument of its effectiveness still continues and some countries still not ratify. International sale contracts are not quite similar to domestic sale contracts as the international character cannot be found in domestic contracts. The first character is the movement of goods which travel from one state to another state, no matter where the seller s and the buyer s places of business are. Another character is the different places of business of both parties which means that both parties have different legal systems. Involving with property, parties or events located in more than one jurisdiction and the laws of those jurisdictions are different, a conflict of laws issue might arise in a dispute between parties. The differences between laws of each country also create uncertainty in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Life In The Iron-Mills By Rebecca Harding Davis The short story Life in the Iron Mills by Rebecca Harding Davis is about a town that centers around an iron mill and the workers whose lives revolve around the mill. At the beginning of the story, this becomes evident when the narrator says, The mills were deserted on Sundays, except by the hands who fed the fires, and those who had no lodgings and slept usually on the ash heaps (1715). The only day that there are not workers at the iron mill is on Sunday because most of Sunday is spent at church. In the short story, Davis begins to suggest that there are strong, spiritual elements throughout the story. Most people who think about God believe that God and faith can bring those who are struggling out of the dark cloud that seems to be encompassing their lives. That is how Davis is trying to show the role of the church and trying to show that the people in the iron mill town need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolfe s story reveals why the solution to the social problem methods of charity is still veiled. A Problem for the Aviation Industry Essay Section 217: A Problem for the Aviation Industry On a cold February evening in 2009, just outside the city of Buffalo, New York, two pilots crashed a new aircraft on final approach to land into Buffalo Niagara International Airport. In an effort to prevent an accident of a similar nature from happening, the U.S. Congress passed H.R. 5900, the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation AdministrationExtension Act. This bill under Title II was aimed to enhance airline safety and in part prevent an accident of this nature from occurring again (U.S. House 2010). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asia s economy is booming and this has resulted in the growth of many startup carriers that offer tax free salaries and free housing for pilots with less than 1500 hours a very attractive opportunity. This may cause a potential migration of pilots that would lead to many U.S. airlines having planes but no one qualified to fly them. Further contributing to the shortage is that the cost to become a pilot is already expensive, causing low interest in the field; this law would make it even worse. By calculation, if a potential pilot were to start today, he would probably be facing a debt of between $50,000 and $80,000 just to receive the flight training required to gain 250 hours (Chatterjee). Added to this is the cost of attending a college with an accredited program. Potential pilots could be looking at paying well over $200,000 in loans to be able to fly. Before this law passed, pilots were assured that if they worked hard and passed through all the training received from college and flight school they would be able to become a pilot with one of the regional carriers and make a small salary while obtaining the required hours for one of the major carriers. Now, even this option has been taken away by the government because of the new hour requirement. He traced the operation of unconscious processes, using the free associations of the patient to guide him in the interpretation of dreams and slips of speech.
