Fungi include mushrooms, molds, and yeast. They differ from plants in that they cannot produce their own food and reproduce via spores. Many fungi decompose dead material and are important decomposers in ecosystems. Yeast can undergo aerobic respiration using oxygen or anaerobic respiration without oxygen, producing less energy but carbon dioxide and ethanol. Fermentation uses yeast's anaerobic respiration to produce alcohol and carbon dioxide for leavening bread.
