When a company comes out with its initial public
offering, or IPO, or floats new bonds, it does so through
the primary market. Even though the primary market is
often described as an exchange between the investing
public and the corporation, almost all initial shares are
bought through a syndicate of underwriters.
How to buy primary share in the Market:
16. 16
Getting Into the Initial Public Offering:
The demand for an IPO is almost always exponentially
greater than the supply of lots provided to the retail
investing public. This further benefits those fortunate
enough to be chosen, since that pent-up demand often
equates to early capital gains opportunities once the IPO is
over.
Finding IPOs is not very difficult. Many are very well-
advertised and all stock exchanges provide a list of coming
offerings. If you are interested in one, seek out a broker and
put in your application. If your application is accepted, you
own the stock. If not, you get your money back.
