Identify a strategy necessary for reading a particular kind of text or that is useful in reading across texts and a context that rewards the application of that strategy. Introduce the strategy, trying to demonstrate to the extent possible that kids already employ it. Provide explicit instruction on the strategy. Give lots of practice. Have kids employ it in increasingly challenging contexts.

  • 14. Identify a strategy necessary for reading a particular kind of text or that is useful in reading across texts and a context that rewards the application of that strategy. Introduce the strategy, trying to demonstrate to the extent possible that kids already employ it. Provide explicit instruction on the strategy. Give lots of practice. Have kids employ it in increasingly challenging contexts.
