This year in Sophomore English, students can expect regular progress updates from their teacher through progress reports, report cards, and monthly letters. Students will have a written assignment every two weeks and an independent study project each term requiring a 500-word report and visual presentation on a pre-approved topic. The teacher looks forward to a fun and engaging year getting to know students and their families.

1. Welcome to Sophomore English! This is going to be a busy year for your child, and I will
do my part to keep you informed about our classroom activities. Each term you can
expect the following communications from me:
• Progress report
• Report card
• Monthly letter such as this one
You can expect that your child will have a written assignment for English class every two
weeks. In addition, there will be an independent study project each term, which I expect
every student to complete and present in class. Students select a topic from a list that I
provide. They research the topic, write a 500-word report, and create some kind of of
visual object to accompany the report. Topics range from book reports to the process of
publishing.
I find that Sophomore English is usually one of the most fun, educationally stimulating,
and enjoyable classes. I look forward to getting to know you and your child throughout
