Learn the disconnect between regulatory traceability requirements & industry standards; how KDEs needed for recall resolution compare to those in FSMA 204; & ways to fortify your traceability system
What the FDA’s May 2021 Report on Foodborne Illness in Retail Delis RevealsSafetyChain Software
Dr. Rolando González from TAG unpacks the recent FDA recent report on foodborne illness in retail delis. Regardless of whether you are responsible for food safety in a deli located in a retail store or work in another manufacturing setting, attend!
Mandatory compliance deadlines approach for labeling of foods on the NBFDS list. Review final disclosure and record-keeping requirements with Eric Edmunds, JD. He'll discuss Supply Chain controls, process validation, product testing, & enforcement.
The Reportable Food Registry (RFR) has been around for more than a decade, but many manufacturers still don’t know exactly what kinds of issues need to be reported, nor when, or how to report them. Yet, failing to report an issue to The Reportable Food Registry (RFR) can have serious consequences.
This webinar will provide insight into how the food-allergic community views precautionary allergen statements, and how the industry can start to regain their trust by taking a risk-based approach to finished product labeling.
Are your food safety KPIs driving the right behaviors? Join TAG's Mary Hoffman, Dir. of Food Safety, to learn how to assess your food safety KPIs and set the right goals to drive the behaviors and results you want.

Zone One Testing: Do You Dare? The Pros and Cons of Zone Approach to TestingSafetyChain Software
Companies required to conduct environmental monitoring for verification of pathogen control must make a reasoned decision on whether to test direct-product-contact surfaces (zone 1) for indicators alone, pathogens alone, or both combined. Many experts advise never testing zone 1 surfaces for pathogens due to recall risk if such surfaces are found contaminated with a pathogen. However, such advice – ignoring your greatest risk surfaces for your greatest food safety risk – seems logically flawed.
In this webinar, co-hosted by Eurofins and SafetyChain, food safety researcher Douglas Marshall, PhD, CFS (Chief Scientific Officer with Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories, Inc.) discusses an approach to zone 1 testing that recommends testing non-direct-contact surfaces simultaneously for pathogens and indicators, then building a correlation between quantitative indicator count and Salmonella or Listeria prevalence. Dr. Marshall shares insights on how companies are employing this approach, including:
-Exploration of the various philosophical and scientific rationales for zone 1 pathogen testing
-How to justify your zone 1 pathogen testing program to inspectors, auditors, and customers
-Examples of where ignoring zone 1 pathogen testing led to a deadly outcome

Meeting Description:
Food packaging is an important element to the safety of food and its ingredients, as they travel through the supply chain and on to the consumer.
How can you protect yourself, your brand, your customers, and the end consumer from adverse impacts?
What are best practices you should be paying attention to in manufacturing and purchasing of packaging materials and components?
-How can you proactively monitor and manage your suppliers?
-Debra Krug-Reyes of ConAgra will discuss the need for food safety programs at packaging suppliers.
-George Gansner of IFS will then talk about the role and importance of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and International Featured Standards.
This webinar will reveal the history of the IFS PACsecure standard, focus on the benefits of certification to the supplier and customer, as well as review the tools available in support of certification which include HACCP implementation workbooks designed specifically for the sector for which it applies (glass, metal, rigid plastic, flexible plastic, and paper – corrugated, paper board, etc.).
About the IFS PACsecure standard:
Since 2003, IFS has built its presence around the world as a leading standard in the food supply chain, and in 2013, IFS PACsecure was added to the family of GFSI benchmarked certifications. This standard for primary and secondary packaging materials was developed to provide packaging converters the opportunity to certify their systems and products with a HACCP-based approach, using risk-based methodology.
Developed jointly by the food and packaging industry in North America with the guidance of the Packaging Consortium, the IFS PACsecure standard is now globally viable and meets GFSI customer requirements.

From ISO standards to GFSI schemes, food safety rules, regulations, and governance have been evolving - leaving some confusion around what systems F&B manufacturers should be using to manage food safety and quality.
About this Webinar:
We'll break down the components of a proper Food Safety Management System (FSMS) that supports both quality and food safety functions, and helps manufacturers maintain compliance, audit-readiness, and customer satisfaction.
In this presentation, Ranjeet Klair, Director of Food Safety at the Acheson Group, describes what a complete food safety management system looks like - from HACCP to QMS to GMP - and how to get organizational-wide alignment around food safety responsibilities that directly impact quality and production goals.

Human error is a frequent cause of allergen-related recalls in food manufacturing, often happening when management systems are not designed to prevent errors.
Preventing an allergen recall requires an understanding of production processes, a focus on consistency, and effective communication with upper management. In this presentation, we’ll focus on what tools and practices are needed to prevent costly allergen-related recalls including:
• Awareness of the broad financial implications of an allergen-related recall
• How to align with upper management on allergen control measures
• Bridging allergen control processes with quality control to ensure consistency and compliance
An unannounced inspection from the FDA - or other regulatory agency - could result in uncertainty and anxiety within your team. If someone does not clearly understand what the inspector is looking for, or can’t produce what is being asked of them, these mishaps might place the inspection at risk.
During this presentation you’ll learn what critical areas to prepare for should an unexpected regulatory inspection occur, along with training tips to help empower your team to navigate inspections with confidence.
Discussion items include:
• Understanding the scope of the inspection
• Critical documents that should be prepared
• Management and training processes to ensure an “always-ready” culture
• Planning tips to know who is responsible for what and when

Presentation Abstract:
The FDA has finally released an update to the Preventive Controls/Human Foods Rule draft guidance, including a revised Appendix 1: Known or reasonably foreseeable hazards.
This means clearer steps to identify potential dangers in your food products.
But what's changed? The new Appendix 1 now includes a listing of potential biological and chemical hazards for 16 different food types. Plus, it clarifies the importance of considering process-related hazards too. Think of it as your personalized starting point for the Hazard Analysis process, a crucial step in ensuring food safety.
