The French and Indian War was a military conflict between Great Britain and France over control of North America from 1754 to 1763. The war began in the Ohio Valley, where the British and French competed for control. The French had strong alliances with Native American tribes, giving them initial advantages. In 1763, the Treaty of Paris ended the war, ceding French North American territories to Britain. As a result of the war, tensions grew between the British and colonists.
