#FACTCHECKWESTPAPUA Media Access, Political Freedom, Human Rights, & Violencenokoprawiro
This document provides summaries of fact checks on media access, political freedom, human rights, and violence in West Papua, Indonesia. It debunks myths about mass killings and genocide, and finds that most violence is due to crime and separatist groups killing more than security forces. On media access, most journalist visa applications are approved, and foreign diplomats routinely visit. West Papua enjoys democratic elections and autonomy. While human rights issues remain, reports of mass killings are unfounded, and the government has taken steps to address cases. Crime is the leading cause of homicides, with separatists killing more than security actors based on studies.
Separatist Agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and National ...Premier Publishers
The predatory character of post-colonial states, and African's way of providing plausible solutions to national questions have remained a nightmare. This is evident on the manner regions or better still, ethnic groups that found themselves lost in the scheme of things. Thus, calling for self-belonging and inclusion by groups and cleavages is a direct link to restructuring, accommodating the excluded minority and forging ahead for peace and stability. In Nigeria, the scenario is very crystal clear on how successive political regimes had failed to come up with lasting solutions to national questions. Thus, paper examined the link between separatist agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and its implication on the existence of Nigeria State. It also interrogated on how the use of inflammatory statements by the IPOB exacerbated ethnic disharmony, and the extent of state repression undermined IPOB separatist agenda in Nigeria. Methodologically, the paper appropriated documentary method, and data were ostensibly generated through secondary sources of data collection and analyzed in content. The theoretical framework of analysis for the study was adequately anchored on the frustration-aggression hypothesis. The paper discovered as findings that the use of inflammatory statements by the IPOB exacerbated ethnic rancour mainly between the Igbo tribe and their Hausa counterpart. It was also noted that state repression failed to undermine their separatist movement and agenda. Based on these findings, the paper recommended among others that the Nigeria government should adopt dialogue and other diplomatic means rather than coercion.

Myanmar Political Parties Call For Martial Law in Northern Rakhine State
https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/asia-and-the-pacific/myanmar/report-myanmar/
MYANMAR 2016/2017-The formation of a new civilian-led government did not lead to significant improvements in the human rights situation. The persecuted Rohingya minority faced increased violence and discrimination. Religious intolerance and anti-Muslim sentiment intensified. Fighting between the army and ethnic armed groups escalated in northern Myanmar. The government increased restrictions on access for UN and other humanitarian agencies to displaced communities. Although scores of prisoners of conscience were released, restrictions on freedoms of expression, of association and of peaceful assembly remained. Impunity persisted for past and ongoing human rights violations.
The document discusses recent attacks by an insurgent group called Harakah al-Yaqin (HaY) in northern Rakhine State in Myanmar that killed 12 security officers. HaY is a new Muslim insurgent group led by Rohingya émigrés and has support from local Muslims. The attacks represent a serious escalation and the emergence of a new insurgency. The government faces challenges in balancing security responses with addressing the underlying grievances and discrimination faced by Rohingya Muslims. A heavy-handed military response risks worsening the situation by increasing alienation, while political and policy reforms are needed to resolve the crisis.
This paper highlights the state of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and also explores several international justice tools to provide justice to this persecuted minority.
The document discusses power sharing and its importance in a democratic system. It provides several reasons why power sharing is essential: (1) It respects the spirit of democracy by allowing all communities and social groups a say in governance; (2) It helps avoid conflicts between different groups by ensuring no group feels excluded; (3) It prevents tyranny of the majority by not allowing the majority to dominate the minority groups. Maintaining the democratic spirit is the key moral reason for power sharing.
Abstract
Nguru was a District under the Sayfawa Dynasty since 1630. It was
created when Kanem Borno Empire established four different
th
principalities in the 17 century. Since then, the town, situated in the
geographically advantage environment, has been one of the strategic
economic locations in northern Nigeria. This paper aims to discuss the
contributions of the town in terms of political and economic growth of
Northern Nigeria. It is interesting to note that, Nguru was among the
earliest strategic economic locations of both pre-colonial and colonial
Nigeria. What appeared to have been a turning point in the history of the
town became a District with a District Officer in the colonial period. The
extension of railway line to the town in 1929 added impetus to its
development, between 1930-1960, there were lots of commercial
activities in the area, especially in commodities like groundnuts, Arabic
Gum, Cotton, etc. The quantity and volume of the commodities produced
made Nguru to become the most strategic commercial centre in the whole
north-eastern states of Nigeria at that time. The primary source of this
paper is derived from the oral source as well as monasteries
documentations of the Old Borno Dynasty, especially some documents
related to archival materials. Other sources include written materials like
books and journals which directly discussed the history of the town. These
documents revealed a lot of findings on the history of Nguru.

Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist group in Nigeria, abducted over 200 girls from a school in Chibok. CNN was the first news organization to report on the abduction and focused on attention-seeking language. BBC News provided a more factual report supported by credible sources. The Washington Post asked important questions readers would have and discussed international assistance. Social media campaigns like #BringBackOurGirls on Twitter and Facebook received widespread attention and support for finding the girls.
During the civil war in eastern Congo, gang rapes by soldiers were rampant. While the war officially ended three years ago, violent sexual assault remains common and many view it as epidemic. The document follows the story of one woman who was raped by a government soldier as she traveled alone. It describes the physical and emotional toll of widespread rape, how rape has been used as a weapon of war, and how few options exist for victims given the lack of infrastructure, healthcare services, and social support systems. Rape remains a constant threat and has severely impacted public health through the spread of HIV/AIDS.

This document summarizes the foreign influence on the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram. It discusses how some members of Boko Haram received training in bomb-making in Afghanistan from the Taliban. The document also mentions reports that Boko Haram received funding from al-Qaeda linked groups in Sudan. While some argue foreign powers are trying to destabilize Nigeria, others believe the roots of Boko Haram's terrorism lie within Nigeria's own challenges. Overall, the document examines the international dimensions and connections of the Boko Haram terrorist organization in Nigeria.
The document describes the weekly non-violent protests held in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh against the Israeli occupation and confiscation of the village's spring by a nearby illegal Israeli settlement. Each Friday, the village's men, women and children march peacefully towards the spring but are met by Israeli soldiers who use tear gas, rubber bullets, stun grenades, and skunk water against the protesters. The village has faced injuries and deaths of protesters from the violent response of the Israeli forces over the past few years in their continued demonstrations against the loss of their land and water.

The document discusses the abuse and risk faced by women seeking asylum on Nauru. It details several case studies of women who were sexually assaulted, including being raped by local men. The detention centers have inadequate security and privacy, putting women at risk of assault. Women who have been resettled also face risks, with some attacked and raped in isolated housing. Despite evidence of these issues, the Australian government continues to detain asylum seekers on Nauru and has not improved safety or moved people to safer locations.
The Committee to Protect Journalists found that the number of journalists imprisoned worldwide reached a record high of 232 in 2012, surpassing the previous record of 185 in 1996. Turkey, Iran, and China were the three worst jailers, largely imprisoning journalists on vague anti-state charges related to terrorism or dissent. Overall, governments are increasingly using anti-state laws to silence critical voices in the media.
The document summarizes the 2009 Maguindanao massacre in the Philippines, where more than 50 people were killed. The victims were accompanying a local politician, Vice Mayor Esmael Mangudadatu, to file his candidacy for governor against the Ampatuan family, the local political dynasty. Mangudadatu's wife, sisters, and more than 30 journalists were among those killed in a ambush attack planned by members of the Ampatuan family led by Andal Ampatuan Jr. The massacre drew national and international attention for its brutality and high death toll of journalists, and highlighted the political violence and culture of impunity in the Philippines.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.

time, they took hostage of 34 construction workers. These workers were there to build
the Trans-Papua roads and bridges to connect all regions inside West Papua. The
armed separatists took away their clothes, phones, and wallets. After being locked up
overnight in a camp at Karunggame, without clothing at temperatures that could reach
0°C, the victims were told to walk to the Kabo Peak to be executed at 6 am.
For the survivors, the despicable incident was so imprinted as if it had happened
yesterday. Jimmy Aritonang is one of them. "We are all videotaped by these people.
When we are in Kabo Peak, we are tied up. From there, we are brought down; then we
5. are executed there." Another survivor, Martinus Sampe, managed to save himself after
pretending to be dead. With a gunshot wound in the leg, Martinus ran for help.
However, before that tragic event dubbed as Nduga Massacre, the armed criminals
have been terrorizing West Papua for a long time. They killed non-Papuans, forced
money and support from the West Papuan villagers, took non-Papuans hostages
working voluntarily as teachers and medics, and many more. Their methods of
movement are similar to how Iraq-Syria Islamic State (ISIS) operates.
3. Using Child Soldiers and Raping Women
Not only they killed unsuspecting people, but they are also recruiting and training
children to be their soldiers. Reported by the Associated Press titled “Underage fighters
drawn into Indonesian separatist conflict” released on June 24, 2019, the armed
separatist group had proudly admitted to recruiting child soldiers in their terror acts to
the journalist Stephen Wright.
ISIS also uses this practice of early indoctrination. According to the UN, these teenagers
are most likely used for other tasks beyond combat, such as for domestic/sexual
slaves, human shields, or forced to steal food/supplies from locals.
6. As they are a patriarchal community, the armed criminals see women as expendables or
objects. There were reports of them raping women, non-Papuans, and indigenous, but
there were countless who went unreported. The Indonesian news company, Antara,
reported that the armed separatists took hostage of 15 volunteer teachers and medics
on October 3-17, 2018. They viciously took a turn in raping one of the female teachers.
Suara.com detailed the victim's story with the title “Air Mata dari Nduga, Menguak
Tragedi Pemerkosaan di Papua” loosely translated as “The Tears in Nduga, Uncovering
the Rape Tragedy in West Papua.”
4. Threatens to Kill All Non-Papuans
If the ISIS killed non-Muslims, then the OPM killed non-Papuans. It is a known fact that
the armed criminals have been killing non-Papuans living in West Papua. Citing from
Tempo.co, on June 25, 2018, the armed criminal groups opened fire on a commercial
plane, stabbed 3 Kenyam residents trying to save themselves, and slashed a 6-year-old
7. with a machete. The kid was the only one who survived the attack. His parents and a
merchant involved were killed.
Antaranews.com reported on October 25, 2019, that the armed separatist had killed
three motorcycle taxi drivers in Intan Jaya and shot two staff of the Public Works
Department in Yahukimo. On a Facebook post, they emphasized that they will kill every
non-Papuan in December 2019.
8.
The armed separatists also threatened to kill any native West Papuan who help West
Papua's provincial division. The statement was issued by the separatists on November
2, 2019, through another TPNPB News Facebook post. On the Heger Phaul blog post,
the group said they would shoot West Papuans, who were in charge of the provincial
division to death. The threat shows their ignorance of people's welfare. They justify
violence and lawlessness for their political agenda and power, even by terrorizing and
killing West Papuans.
9. 5. The Mastermind of Wamena Riots: 29
non-Papuans from the Total 33 Died, 3,000 Fled
Unrest
Wamena riots (9/23/2019) might be the worst event that happened in West Papua last
year. The separatists were trying to trigger horizontal conflict by creating disturbances.
Citing from Kompas.com, there were 33 people, including 29 non-Papuans, that were
killed by separatist rioters, causing 3,000 to seek refuge (October 5, 2019). By the victim
counts, non-Papuans were being specifically targeted by the rioters. A lot of vehicles
and more than 300 properties owned by non-Papuan were burnt down by rioters.
The Jakarta Post reported that as thousands of non-native residents are trying to flee
from Wamena in Papua’s Jayawijaya regency following deadly rioting, some
10. heartwarming stories have emerged about native residents of the province protecting
non-native residents during the chaos.
"All those who say native Papuans are heartless, look at this photo! This was taken in
front of my house," a Twitter user named Edenia tweeted. The picture, which later went
viral, shows three Papuans escorting a non-Papuan family. The non-Papuan man is seen
hugging a Papuan man. "These are the same people that helped my mother before the
security forces arrived. Without them, she might have been dead now,” Edenia said. The
posts have been retweeted more than 9,000 times.
Papuan Obet Mabel, together with some other native residents of the city, helped at
least 58 families reach a safe place in the city center. They blocked the way of the
rioters who were chasing after the fleeing residents. “I led [the rescue effort],” Obet said,
adding that the faces of the rioters were unfamiliar to him. “I don’t know where they
come from,” he told The Jakarta Post.
Another native resident, elementary school teacher Nico Logo, said he had hidden
non-native Papuans in his house until the situation was safe enough. He further said it
could not possibly have been native Papuans from the neighborhood who attacked or
even murdered those from outside Papua, because they had lived together in peace and
harmony for a long time.
11.
Another citation from the Jakarta Post wrote that the Papua Police had named 13 people
suspects for allegedly having been behind the recent deadly unrest in Wamena, Jayawijaya
regency, which caused tens of thousands of residents to flee their homes.
Ten suspects, whose ages range from 16 to 40 years, were already in custody, while the
remaining three are still at large and being hunted by the police, Papua Police spokesperson Sr.
Comr. AM Kamal said on Monday.
“The three wanted [suspects] are categorized as provocateurs and are allegedly involved in the
KNPB [National Committee of West Papua], and the ULMWP [United Liberation Movement for
West Papua],” Kamal said as quoted by kompas.com.
The Indonesian government has blamed both the ULMWP, led by UK-based Papuan exile Benny
Wenda and the affiliated KNPB, for orchestrating the unrest that broke out on Sept 23, 2019.
Police investigators claimed they found indications the three were involved with the groups after
collecting the testimony of the arrested suspects and witnesses, he said.
Mus Mulyadi, a satay restaurant owner, saw men dressed in high school uniforms. "Those who
set the kiosks on fire were all men who did not look like students. One had a beard this long."
12. The amateur video documentation shows that separatists caused the riots and arson. They
were seen carrying arrows and gasoline.
The international public has to realize that the armed separatists are not innocent and, indeed, a
terrorist organization.
