Inferential and Descriptive Statistics
Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to answer
the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive statistics.
Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive statistics
describe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements interact or
influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the data
collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive statistics
are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report. For
example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to determine the total of open felony cases per
attorney in one year or say that on average they had x number of open cases in the last two years.
These are considered to be summaries of caseloads that describe the data collected but it does not tell
you if a certain variable (number of cases opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated)
with the final outcome of a case. When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the
knowledge of a certain variable (caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of
another (final dispositional outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20),
you get water. We know that every time you have the interaction of these

Genesis 1-2 Reflection Paper
1. Activity: Genesis 1 2
Keywords, phrases, themes, and topics for Genesis 1 2.
Among the more interesting words from Genesis 1 are:
In the beginning... it alerts the reader of the fact that everything that has ever taken place as regards
man had a starting point, an origin. Time is a created object just as anything else is. Before time, in
some presently incomprehensible way, God and His kingdom stood outside of any movement or effect
from time. He can say He has a beginning in the sense that before time began, there was no need or
reason to mark the flow of events. The origin of time is truly the beginning of all things except for that
which is eternal. Unfathomable, yet also obvious.
I do not want to argue a time span for the creation or the longevity of the universes presence. I have
developed a growing inclination to see the state of innocence that had been before man s disobedience
to have been potentially, millennia. My tendency is to accept as fact, that God created all things in the
course of days. However, I am also aware that the Bible is not a physics book and does not require
literal understandings of those concepts that we have such difficulty interpreting. Neither would I want
to state a definitive timeline for man s history. I have my opinions, but in the end, they are just
opinions. God created ... We look at the mountains, or oceans, we see the stars which scientists assure
us have endured for hundreds of thousands, even millions of years.

Vatican Council Research Paper
The II Vatican council was held in rome from 1962 1965. Vatican Council II was an ecomunal or
global council that is the meeting of all the Catholic bishops from all around the world which dealt
with certain issues facing the Catholic Church. Major issues that took place during the era of the
Vatican Council II was that the church was powerful and was taking to much money from people.
Because of changes in culture due to modernism it was decided that the church needed to update its
procedures to become more relevant and accessible to modern people. As Pope John XXIII said, the
church needed to open the windows and let in some fresh air.
Pope John XXIII named Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was the head of the Catholic church from 1958 to
1963 and sovereign of the Vatican city state, he was born on the 25th of October,1818 in Sotto il
Monte in Italy. Following the death of Pope Pius XII on 9 October 1958, the papal conclave elected

A Research Study On Relational Database Technology
Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about it.
In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology.
Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached to
present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I did
study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The
simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three
architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results.
The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This
technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the
advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from any
location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the internet
is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include: Facebook,
Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be prone to the high
load of the database layer. As a result, it was not possible for the relational database technology to
handle the database load for such applications. Even scaling out the application servers will not solve

Acting Nitrate Essay
Nitrates is a venodilator that reduces myocardial oxygen demand by decreasing ventricular preload via
vasodilation; it enhances myocardial oxygen delivery by dilating large coronary arteries and
improving collateral flow to ischemic areas. The specific molecular mechanism of nitrates by acting
through endothelial independent pathway to relax all types of vascular smooth muscle cells .Nitrates
are converted to nitric oxide which activates guanylate cyclase producing cyclic guanosine

The Uniform Crime Records And The Federal Bureau Of The...
In the late 1920s, the Committee on Uniform Crime Records was established by the International
Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP). The goal of the Committee was to develop a systematic
way to measure crime in the United States. The Committee collaborated and decided to focus on seven
(7) specific crime areas which they felt were the most known crimes and the most likely to be
reported. These crimes were: burglary, robbery, larceny theft, rape, auto theft, murder and aggravated
assault (James Rishard, 2008).
The IACP developed their own definitions of these crimes to ensure uniformity of reporting the data
collected. This information and definitions were published in 1929 in the Uniform Crime Reporting
Manual. The first report of data collected was published later that same year and was amassed from
400 cities across the 48 contiguous United States, as well as the territories of Alaska, Hawaii, and
Puerto Rico. This report became known as the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The following year, in
1930, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) was tapped to control the crime data collected for the
UCR (James Rishard, 2008).
Since 1930, there have been a few modifications made to the UCR. The FBI began recording the age,
sex and race of those arrested as well as increasing the known crimes reported to law enforcement
from seven (7) categories to eight (8) categories by adding the category of arson (James Rishard,
2008).

The Pros And Cons Of Racism
According to a teacher at Louisiana s top public high school, the n word is no longer racist and has
utterly lost its negative connotation due to overuse. His students (and millions of Americans) seriously
beg to differ.
According to the Times Picayune, the Benjamin Franklin High School teacher identified in the video
as Coach Ryan got into a heated exchange with one of his black students about why he is entitled, as a
white man, to use the racial slur. A video of the argument was originally posted on Twitter but has
since been protected.
That s racist as sh*t, the student tells Coach Ryan. Why can you not understand that it s racist for a
white man to say n****r to a black man? It s f***ing racist.
Raw Story reported that the student asks a white classmate if he would ever use the n word and the
classmate affirms that he wouldn t, after which the student opens the question to the entire class. They
agree that they would not say the n word. Coach Ryan then proceeds to dig himself into a deeper hole
while giving his students a disappointing lesson in white denial.
It s a word that s used so many times that it doesn t mean its original meaning, he insists. The word
has been commoditized so that anyone can use it, and it s not a negative connotation.
Not about to indulge an outright falsehood, the student tells Coach Ryan that the word would
absolutely have negative connotations if he used it it would be racist. Then, perhaps sadly inevitably,

Essay Analysis of The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost
In the Robert Frost poem The Road Not Taken there is a pervasive and in many ways intrinsic sense of
journey throughout. In such, the poem explores an aspect associated with human decision, or
indecision, relative to the oxymoron, that choices with the least the difference should bear the most
indifference, but realistically, carry the most difficulty. This is conveyed through the use of several
pivotal techniques. Where the first such instance is the use of an extended metaphor, where the poem
as a whole becomes a literary embodiment of something more, the journey of life. The second
technique used is the writing style of first person. Where in using this, the reader can depict a clear
train of thought from the walker and understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wherein this is the extent of the metaphor, where in this poem it is a changeable anomaly subject to
the readers interpretation of taking the road less travelled and whether it be a positive (sigh of
satisfaction) or negative (sigh of regret). This is all one can hope when using a metaphor relating to
the readers life, that they substitute their own feelings and create their own meaning, their own attitude
towards to such decisions and subsequently, such journeys. Furthermore, we have the use of first
person, where the almost universal effect is to have an in depth look into the character and their
immediate response to a problem or dilemma. This poem no different, where in the first stanza we are
ushered in with the use of anaphora in lines 2, 3 and 4 with the repetition of the word and . This
specific use of anaphora is used to create the mindset and intelligible deduction of the traveller to the
events and dilemma prescribed to him. Insofar as his immediate reaction be being presented with a
choice. It shows his reaction of regret in that he is sorry he could not travel both and explains what he
wish he could do be two travellers but also how he initiates his decision making process looked down
one as far as I could . Also, the use of first person is used to connect with the reader, enforcing the
affore used notion that the reader substitutes their own personal truth into a positive

December 2014 Abstract Instructional practices based in social constructivism involve students
constructing new knowledge utilizing social interaction amongst themselves and with teachers.
Learner centered classrooms require significant planning and forethought by teachers to ensure that
instruction is well structured, but fluid enough to allow for student led inquiry. This paper analyzes
several studies and discussions put forth within the last five years that discuss how instructional
practices, like cooperative learning, inquiry based learning and scaffolding, are ways teachers can use
social constructivist based practices in the classroom. While most of the studies, which were mostly
done within a single school in a small number of classrooms, show that cooperative learning, inquiry
based learning and scaffolding is effective, more studies are needed to demonstrated a direct
correlation between these practices and student achievement on a broader scale.

Sanity in Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Sanity in Hamlet
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines insanity as, a deranged state of the mind that usually occurs
as a specific disorder . In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet is considered to be insane by many due to his
unstable, deranged behavior and his attitude towards others. Hamlet does an outstanding job of acting
insane throughout the play, so good, in fact, that his insanity is questioned to actually be truthful. The
answer to Hamlet s madness lies in the actual reasons for his insanity. Although Hamlet s constant
altering behavior was scrutinized by individuals as being psychotic, we can not forget that his father
was just murdered and he wishes to uncover the truthfulness of his father s death and avenge the killer.
Hamlet chooses to to change his behavior in order to try to put pressure on Claudius to reveal the truth
of his father s murder, he displays rational and intelligent thinking in planning as well as in responding
to unplanned situations, and he has been upset by the recent events that have happened in his life, all
of which could create a false image of insanity.
Hamlet must make conscious decisions in his interactions with Claudius in order to make an effort to
uncover the truth of his father s murder. If Hamlet were to act his normal self it would be obvious that
he knows about the murder, so he comes up with a plan to display a deranged manner to throw
everyone off as to what he does or does not know about the murder. If King Claudius found out

Female Obstacles
Intro:
Women in today s society are faced with various obstacles. When a disability is included, the struggles
that are dealt become more enormous. Although, there are many resources available, women with
disabilities face higher poverty rates compounded with different forms of discrimination as well.
Living with a disability changes the life of a person. These people are looked down upon because they
are perceived to be different. Being different from normal people becomes an obstacle that is very
difficult for people with a disability to handle. This begins as small forms of abuse and will eventually
turn into larger forms. The struggles as a women without a disability are difficult already, but when

Disabled women encounter negative attitudes every single day. Women with disabilities are more
likely to suffer domestic violence and sexual assault compared to women without disabilities. Females
with disabilities report that their abuse lasts longer and is more intense than women without
disabilities. (IN TEXT BRENDA). Similar to other women, women with disabilities are usually
abused by someone they know, such as a partner, or family member. Furthermore, disabled women
face the risk of abuse by their caregivers or health care providers. An example is that the caregiver can
withhold medicine and devices that assist them; they can refuse to help them with their daily needs.
Violence against women in Canada is a complex social issue. The rates of violence against women
with disabilities have not decreased in the last 25 years. Women with disabilities experience different
types of violence across their life span. Not only do women with disabilities experience violence, but
violence also causes disability. (IN TEXT VECOVA). Many women in Canada are negatively and
violently treated because of their disabilities. Disabled women in poverty feel a decline in their social
networks and activities. They also feel personal changes of themselves as they are constantly put

Today, there are many countries that establish organisations among themselves in order to protect their
interest and gain benefits. One of the best examples of organisation form by nations would be the
European Union (EU). It is an organisation that was formed by several European nations in order to
attain economic stability, avoid conflicts as well as for political coalition. Another would be the Asian
South East Asia Nation or better known as ASEAN. ASEAN is an organization that represents most of
the countries that is located in the South East Asian region. It started as the Association of Southeast
Asia (ASA) in 1961 by Malaysia (known as Malaya before 1963), Philippines and Thailand. It became
ASEAN in 1967 after Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia signed the ASEAN
Declaration. At first, it was formed as an act of prevention from any communist led insurgency and

in the region as according to Sheila Smith, former Council of Foreign Relations officer (Bennett,

Bing and Liu discuss ways to enhance customer satisfaction in this paper by studying customer
reviews of products sold online. The paper also describes the problem of generating feature based
summaries based on these reviews. According to the paper, a customer review of a particular product
is composed of three parts, namely:
Different features of the products that the customers have expressed their opinion,
Identifying positive and negative opinions based on their reviews and finally
Composing a summary based on information obtained.

extract the feature words. The mining classification is divided into three subtasks. First, POS tagging,
most product feature in reviews contain nouns and phrases. POS enables to identify these tags words
by word. The authors have used NLProcessor linguistic parser to split the sentences and produce POS
tag for every individual word. Some pre processing is performed to remove stop words to avoid big
POS tag lists. Fuzzy matching was also used to deal with misspelling and word variants. Second,
identifying frequent features, features that are particularly used by customers in many reviews. To put
in context, words, or sentences that occur together in many reviews. The authors use association
mining to list out these words. An apriori algorithm based association miner is used to identify these
features/words. The gathered features cannot possibly be genuine product features. Pruning enables to
remove the unwanted features/words that don t match to product opinion or feature. The author uses
two pruning methods and compares their efficiency. While using compactness pruning, it looks for

Mildred Pierce Patriarchy
The films Mildred Pierce (Michael Curtiz, 1945) and Thirteen (Catherine Hardwicke, 2003) portray
the Freudian myth that examines the view of feminine subservience apropos a patriarchy infused
society. Hence, the conflict at the crux of the Maternal Melodrama that relates to the classical conflict
(Chaos vs. Order) underlying most Hollywood genres is Autonomy vs. Control. In Mildred Pierce, the
female characters representing Autonomy are posited against male Control. This Maternal Melodrama
conflates with Film Noir so as it reflects the prevailing social context; women were breadwinners in
the 40s, however, in the postwar era, hegemonic masculinity reasserted itself by divesting women of
any power they had gained while the patriarchal order was suspended during WWII. Consequently,
classical Hollywood narratives portrayed the impending chaos as women resisted patriarchy; such
conflict was subtly present in the post feminist era. Accordingly, in Thirteen, Tracy ... Show more

walking with Bert into a bright dawn signifies her submission to and restoration of patriarchal order.

Eventually, Melanie succeeds in subduing Tracy, who feebly resists her restraining if loving embrace.
This act of containment counters the symbolic castration and legitimizes women s potency. As Tracy
wakes up next to Melanie, the sun beaming down on them suggests that order has been established.
This is further emphasized with her spinning as if out of her chaotic life on a merry go round and
releasing the repressed pain in screaming. Hence, unlike in Mildred Pierce whereby, female Autonomy
leads to Chaos and male Control brings Order, the former defies the latter in

Satirizing News Shows
In recent years, political comedies, especially those satirizing news programs, have risen in popularity.
Shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight, and The Nightly Show have had
a huge impact on mainstream America. Because of their comedic nature, these shows can get away
with addressing taboo topics in opinionated manners. Furthermore, their audiences are less likely to be
defensive because their message is displayed in a humorous way. Therefore, these programs have a
significant amount of power when it comes to influencing the political sphere. Serious news networks
often cover topics that are safe. Reporters try to avoid controversy by not addressing controversial
topics or by removing anything possibly offensive. Thus, even if touchy topics shown, no
revolutionary viewpoints are shared. Satirical news programs, on the other hand, follow no such
guidelines. They can address topics such as transgender rights, the death penalty, and police brutality.
Unlike other reporters, comedians feel no such need to represent both sides of an argument. In topics

Grupo Damm Final Strategic Recommendation
Introduction and Summary of Recommendation Grupo Damm, one of the largest beer brewers in
Spain, is a strong company in a weak home market. Although many opportunities exist for expansion,
the strongest plan for the company to embark on is an aggressive expansion of its business in the
United States. This project will give Damm access to a large consumer base with minimal risk due to
previous conservative investments in the region.
Situation Analysis Grupo Damm s current situation is the third largest beer company in Spain. It is a
large player in a market dominated by two other beer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basis for Recommendation 1. The Spanish beer market is contracting, and trying to win a larger piece
of a smaller pie will prove very costly (Appendix 2). As the Spanish recession continues, revenue will
decline as less beer is consumed and margins will shrink as consumers buy beer in supermarkets,
significantly constraining Damm s profits (Appendix 3). 2. Damm has already entered the U.S. market
via a 17% acquisition of U.S. Beverage, a specialty distributor that works mainly with premium
imports (Peet). U.S. Beverage has had a successful track record with imports in the past, and this
partnership will allow Grupo Damm to circumvent the process of having to find a reliable importer
and distributor. 3. The U.S. beer market has been growing, and more specifically, the imported
premium beer segment has been growing within the overall market (Appendix 4). Although other
markets have been shown to be growing at a higher rate (Group 6, Slide 5), the U.S. market is several
times larger at over 208 million barrels sold per year (Jones).

Basic Principles Of Communication
The Basic Principles of Communication Alethea Lester COM200: Interpersonal Communication
Christi Renzi October 23, 2017 The Basic Principles of Communication We will never know
everything there is to know about relationships with others or ourselves because the communication
process is complexed (Bevan sole, 2014). Communication is the main key to being successful in any
relationship, whether it is business or personal. Communication is the interaction between two or more
people who share meaning through messages that is either verbal or non verbal messages through
contexts (Bevan, J.L, Sole, K. (2014, section 1.4, para. 2). In order to become a competent
communicator and avoid miscommunication, one has to acknowledge and ... Show more content on

The students are medically fragile and severely handicapped. However, there is one student that the
assistant work with more and know more about. The student has seizures if he is over stimulated. The
assistant knows how to not over stimulate him. The student loves to look at lights on the ceiling,
however too much can set his seizures off. One day the teacher decides to work with the student. She
is over stimulating with the lights. The assistant is trying to tell her what she was doing was too much
for him. The teacher over talks assistant and responds before it is her turn to talk. The teacher do not
listen to the assistant. However, she keeps doing what she is doing. Before you know it, the student is
having back to back seizures and 911 has to be call because the seizure will not stop. This leads to
miscommunication because the teacher is not listening and disrespecting what the assistant is trying to
communicate to her about the student. The results of the teacher not listening to the assistant while
explaining how too much lights can over stimulate the student could make the situation uncomfortable
and cause complication with student and the assistant. One challenge or barrier that is caused by
miscommunication is misperceptions. Misperception is the broadest challenge of interpersonal
communication (Bevan, J.L., Sole, K. (2014, section 1.3, para. 12). Since the teacher was not

The Death Of A Master
Her only hope was her Master. She knew him well. He would eventually come to his senses, she
thought. It was his illness talking not the loving, kind man that helped everybody.
She positioned herself so that she could take a better look into her Master s eyes. She wanted to peer
into the soul of the man that had given her hope in God. She listened as he spoke.....
My eyes have seen all this, my ears have heard and understood it. What you know, I also know; I am
not inferior to you. But I desire to speak to the Almighty and to argue my case with God. You,
however, smear me with lies; you are worthless physicians, all of you! If only you would be altogether
silent! For you, that would be wisdom.
Yes..... at last! Ayala wanted to cry out. That s it.... let them have it! After all, you ve been the one
dealing with these unfortunate calamities, not them! How could men of such upright character be so
brutal? It s comforting words that are needed right now, not this nonsense, she screamed silently.
Drawing in the cool air....she longed to settle her anxiousness. She exhaled deeply then paid close
attention to what her Master said next.
Keep silent and let me speak; then let come to me what may. Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take
my life in my hands? Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him; I will surely defend my ways to His
face..... He continued, Men, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble. They spring up like

Postoperative Pain And Anxiety Essay
Analyzing the Effect of Music on Postoperative Pain and Anxiety
The effect of music on postoperative pain and anxiety was studied on an orthopedic unit in a central
Florida hospital (Allred, Byers, Sole, 2010). The authors clearly identified the problem many total
knee arthroplasty patients experience after surgery is moderate to severe postoperative pain and
increased anxiety. Throughout the introduction of the study, it was stressed the importance and need
for this research to be conducted. The authors discussed the effects of inadequately treated pain and
how health care professionals, including nursing, should make it a priority in a patient s treatment plan
(Allred et al., 2010). Several references were provided supporting the issue ... Show more content on

The researchers included both a hypothesis and research questions. They stated a hypothesis, however
it is a research hypothesis versus a null hypothesis. A research hypothesis explains there is correlation
between two or more variables. A null hypothesis is a classification of hypotheses that states there is
no connection between the independent and dependent variables. Statistical testing is performed to
determine whether the statement is acceptable or not. Whereas the research question is an analysis
statement detailing the variables and population of the specified research study (Adams, 2015). The
hypothesis, the authors were hoping to prove, was whether the use of music would reduce pain and
anxiety in postoperative pain in a particular patient population during a defined time frame (Allred et
al., 2010). An example of a null hypothesis for this study would state music would have no effect on
postoperative pain in a particular patient population during a defined time frame. There were four
research questions the researchers attempted to answer. Three of the four questioned the effect of
music on the patient s pain, anxiety, and physiologic parameters. However the fourth question
pertained to the impact of music on the amount of opioids taken from the beginning of the intervention
until six hours later (Allred et al., 2010). The clinicians had not mentioned this component of the study

The Wonder Wom The Complications Of The Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman has been at the center of controversy ever since its premiere in June. Major
controversies revolved around the movie s feminist message, the women only screenings, and the
nationality of its leading actress. In an interview with The Guardian published in August, James
Cameron, the director of The Terminator and Titanic, called Wonder Woman a step backward and
commented that it had nothing groundbreaking. All of the self congratulatory back patting Hollywood
s been doing over Wonder Woman has been so misguided, he said, she s an objectified icon, and it s
just male Hollywood doing the same old thing. His criticism received an immediate rebuke from Patty
Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman. Jenkins responded with a post on Twitter. James Cameron s
inability to understand what Wonder Woman is, or stands for, to women all over the world is
unsurprising as, though he is a great filmmaker, he is not a woman, she wrote, adding, There is no
right and wrong powerful kind of woman. Wonder Woman is a 2017 American superhero film based
on the DC Comics character of the same name. Wonder Woman, also called Princess Diana, is a
princess who grows up on the Amazon Island of Themyscira. She has the superhuman powers given
by the Greek gods, and she fights to defeat Ares, the God of War, and bring peace to the outside world.

Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In the poem Song of Myself by Walt Whitman persona is all about individualism and
transcendentalism. In the poem, he explains how much he loves the world, especially nature and how
everything fits together just as it should. Whitman thinks everything is good to him and nothing is bad
that doesn t contribute to some larger idea. He believes that people should learn from experiences and
not books. Whitman identifies everyone and everything, including death. His soul takes him on a
journey around the world and all over America. This can be seen when the author says For me those
that have been boys, and that love women, For me the man that is proud and feels how it stings to be

Fetching it to me with full hands; How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more
than he (1331). Whitman is delivering the notion that we see in the world as a reflection of our own
dispositions, our own hopes. It can also be seen metaphorically that the grass grows alike in the zones
of rich and poor people, among black folks as among white, and we as human beings ought to live the
same way. We should take lessons from the democracy of the grass, and treat all people equally. I
interpret it in this sense because Whitman lived through the Civil war, and seen a lot of violence.
Dickinson s approach to death is crucial in some of her poems. Emily Dickinson s philosophy on
death was much more traditional, yet she too constantly questioned the Calvinistic beliefs she had
grown up with. Most of her poems cover religion although she didn t write about religion without
mentioning death. Dickinson s poetry can seem confusing or strange to even the most careful reader.
Being brought up in a secular community makes her want to write about death. In her poem, My life
had stood a loaded gun she means Anger can carry us away whether we d like it to or not. While it can
be strangely rewarding to get angry, giving you a sort of high. Feelings of invincibility may suggest

Apartheid and Post-Apartheid South Africa
Seventeen years have passed and the Apartheid era has ended, but the legacy it has left behind has
caused South Africa s rehabilitation and self determination to be an obstructed undertaking.
Unaddressed security problems of belligerent crimes and HIV/AIDS are a direct cause of the failure to
manage the aforementioned legacy (Vercillo n.p.). Back in 1947, the growing desegregation which
was caused by the liberation of India and Pakistan, helped spread the evidential racial equality. The
Afrikaaner Nationalists of South Africa, led by Dr. Malan, believed that the whites were a superior
race and that the blacks were a subservient people; a menace in society that the whites must be

After the seemingly unmanageable and age old problem in South Africa was brought to a peaceful

Copyright Laws Over Creative Works
Copyright is a federally protected part of intellectual property that automatically regulates creative
works of authors. Copyright laws began approximately around the 15th century in Europe. The cause
for such regulations stems from infringement of creative works. These works fall into one of three
main categories; music, visual works, and literary works. Copyright infringement highlights the need
for copyright laws over creative works in music, art and writing, resulting in an ever changing
copyright landscape. Title 17 of the United States Code outlines what does not fall into any of these
three categories, and therefore cannot be protected under copyright. It is also important to note that not

Upon creation of a creative work, copyright protection is automatically awarded (Moser, 2012, p.5).
According to Lau et al., copyright lasts for seventy years after the death of the author(s) and for a
corporation, ninety five years after being published or one hundred twenty years from the creation
date depending on which is sooner. Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, or Copyright
Clause, and Title 17 of the United States Code also work to protect copyrights at the federal level. As
stated by Congress, the Copyright Clause encourages the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by
securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right (Lau, 2014). As stated in Title
17 § 1 102, works outside of the works of authorship categories are not copyrightable. Public domain
is one of these categories, Lau et al. describes it as any intellectual property not protected by law and
feely available for any member of the public to use (2014). After a copyright of a work has expired it
becomes part of the public domain as well. Sound recordings are another example of an un
copyrightable works that result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, but
not including the sounds accompanying a motion picture or other audiovisual work, regardless of the
nature of the material objects, such as disks, tapes, or other phonorecords, in which they are embodied
(17, § 1 101 ). Ideas cannot be copyright protected because

Goddess of the Moon, Titan
Ms. Gale, Per. 1
STORY
At the very beginning of creation, there were to primordial deities: Uranus, the sky, and Gaia, the
earth. From these two, twelve titans were born. The titans then went on to birth their own offspring.
Selene was born to the two titans Hyperion and Theia. Hyperion was the god of heavenly light while
Theia was the goddess of sight and wide shining light, the combination of these created a goddess to
light the night sky.
In the myth, it is said that every night she drove her great chariot across the sky to light up the moon.
Selene is used to represent the phases of the moon so each month there is a day or two where she
disappears.

Lesser Animals In Animal Farm
Everyone has a point in his life where they find something to be absolutely ridiculous, whether it is the
opposal to gay marriage or the new hoverboard that everyone seems to have nowadays. Some people
choose to keep these thoughts to themselves and some choose to demonstrate their feelings like
George Orwell did with his satirical novel Animal Farm. With the largely avoidable hardships of the
animals representing the Soviet Union s working class, the naivete of these animals, and how the
events throughout the novel parallel the history of the Soviet Union, Orwell demonstrates through the
lesser animals in Animal Farm that he agrees that it is the responsibility of the public to know what the
government is doing at all times and that it is absurd to just blindly follow. Through the hardships of
the animals that could have easily been avoided if the government was more carefully managed,
Orwell illustrates this agreement that it is the responsibility of the public to know what the
government is doing at all times. Orwell demonstrates his feelings on the preposterity of the ignorant
lesser animals that represent communist Russia s working class when the ... Show more content on

The Decolorization Potential of Microorganisms
The decolorization potential of microorganism was assessed by examining its ability to degrade
various textile dyes. All 10 dyes monitored showed decolorization as follows: Reactive Yellow 84
(complete decolorization in 5 h), Reactive Green 19A (95% in 24 h) , Reactive Red 120 (complete
decolorization in 6 h), Reactive Blue 160 (complete decolorization in 3 h), Reactive Red 31(complete
decolorization in 6 h), Solvent Red 24 (complete decolorization in 8 h), Basic Green 4 (80% in 24 h),
Diamond Green 4 (complete decolorization in 24 h), Pigment Orange 31 (complete decolorization in 3
h) and RO16 (complete decolorization in 2 h), while in sterile, cell free medium decolorization did not
occur up to 48 h of incubation suggesting the absence of abiotic decolorization. As RO16 showed
complete decolorization in 2 h, this industrially important toxic azo dye was taken for further studies.
Lysinibacillus sp. RGS could decolorize RO16 rapidly and thus was found to be better than the
bacterial consortium DAS reported by Jadhav et al (2011). To confirm the decolorization, UV Vis
spectroscopic analysis was carried out. The absorption spectra of RO16 before and after treatment by
Lysinibacillus sp. RGS in visible range were taken. Peak responsible for absorption maxima of parent
dye (495 nm) were completely disappeared in the sample obtained after decolorization (Fig.S1)
confirming the complete removal.

The Second Shepherd Analysis
The Second Shepherd s Play is a Wakefield cycle play written during the 15th century. The play is set
in Bethlehem and is based on the birth of Jesus Christ told from the perspective of the shepherds
attending their flock. During the Middle Ages, cycle plays were popular because they allowed the
plays to be performed from town to town. This was important because people could not read and
Bibles were so expensive. Cycle plays allowed Christians to learn about key elements pertaining to
Jesus Christ and other Christian figures. The Second Shepherd s Play is a unique play in that it
combines farcical elements and serious lessons. In the play, there are five main characters: Coll, Gib,
Daw, Mak, and Gill. Mak, Daw, Gib, and Coll are shepherds and, at the beginning of the play, are all
watching their sheep at night in the cold weather. The first part of the play consists of 190 lines where
the shepherds are all complaining about something in their lives. Coll is complaining about the cold
weather which is relatable to the audience during this time because they often faced harsh weather
when attending their flock. Gib is seen complaining about his wife and his marriage. As he continues
to complain about his wife, he also begins to warn the audience, especially the young men, to stay
away from marriage. Both shepherds began to complain about Daw because they feel he is too lazy
and playful. However, they contribute it to his age. Daw walks in complaining that he is hungry and

Peaceful Protest
Protests throughout history have sparked controversy in both their subject matter and execution,
calling into question the true value they impart. Peaceful resistance is a key element in the
development of a free society as it facilitates a wide breadth of actions from the raising of awareness
and the greater dissemination of ideas all the way to active change in laws and government.
Wide dissemination of ideas and changes to the law were products of the gay rights movement. In the

Questions about what should be protected under free speech have arisen, causing this country to
question how far free speech should truly extend, some arguing that certain speech or protest works to
harm society, not advance it. In 1977 members of the Nazi Party of America announced their intention
to walk through Skokie, Illinois in Nazi regalia carrying swastikas. Skokie, a majority Jewish
community and the home to many Holocaust survivors, erupted in anger as the residents attempted to
stop the Nazis from marching. Residents of Skokie and sympathizers across the country argued that
the protest aimed to incite hate against a particular religious group and inflict emotional harm. Many
agreed with this point of view but the ACLU stepped in to protect the rights of the Nazi Party and their
rights to free speech as protected by the 1st Amendment. The ACLU and the Nazis were successful
and they retained their right to march wherever they wanted and say whatever they pleased. Although
their speech was undoubtedly hateful and hurtful they still had the right to share their ideas.
(Bekiempis) In response to the march residents of Skokie decided to open a Holocaust memorial
museum in order to combat hatred with education. (Stone) The ultimate goal of any peaceful
resistance is to spread ideas and influence the minds of the population. In the case of Skokie the march
illuminated a problem in society the prevalence of excessive anti semitism. This realization informed
many of the need for more Holocaust education, leading to the improvement of society. Even when a
protest or peaceful resistance appears harmful or detrimental to a society, in the end the society is

The Topic Of Age Discrimination
Introduction: The topic of age discrimination.
Age discrimination is prohibited by the United States government under the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act of 1967 which was put into place to protect workers over the age of forty. Under this
acactin is illegal to show any form of discrimination towards workers over the age of forty, including
unfavorable treatment in the hiring decisions made by employers. This essentially means that of two
prospective employees who possess the same qualifications, an employer cannot choose the younger
of the two simply based on their age and therefore potential useful years of service.
This essay seeks to examine this law and put forward arguments for and against the application of the
law.
While it may seem fair to enforce laws against age discrimination against workers over the age of
forty, there is the opposing argument where workers under the age of forty may also experience
indirect discrimination when passed over for jobs as a result of lack of experience, however, under the
ADEA, they are not protected and so face this kind of discrimination in the workplace with no
recourse for redress.
In addition, much as workers over the age of forty are given recourse for action under the ADEA, as
with many cases of discrimination, it can be difficult to prove disparate treatment or actual intent to
discriminate, and there are many legitimate defenses to any lawsuits including the bona fide
occupational qualification

Domestic Abuse And Domestic Violence
I chose to do the domestic survivors subculture I feel as if it was a great topic to focus on its going to
reveal a lot of emotion. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence sometimes called
battering is against the law. At first glance, it is hard to imagine why a victim of domestic violence
would voluntarily remain in the relationship with the abuser. As you may know domestic violence
doesn t always start off as violence it starts off as in the form of love. The abuser feels as if they love
the person so much that it hurts. That the abuse they inflict on the person they love is because they
love and care about them. Many victims feel as if no one will believe them. There has been so many
cases that have gone unanswered because no one really knows what goes on. The person being abused
hides what the abuser does because they think it is something they did wrong or they think the person
loves them. Domestic abuse comes in different forms it can be verbal, physical, or sexual. Domestic
abuse leaves psychological scars from anxiety due to living in ongoing danger. In my essay you will
get to know a lot of women that have survived domestic abuse and their stories.

  • 2. Inferential and Descriptive Statistics Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to answer the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive statistics describe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements interact or influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the data collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive statistics are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report. For example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to determine the total of open felony cases per attorney in one year or say that on average they had x number of open cases in the last two years. These are considered to be summaries of caseloads that describe the data collected but it does not tell you if a certain variable (number of cases opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated) with the final outcome of a case. When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the knowledge of a certain variable (caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of another (final dispositional outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20), you get water. We know that every time you have the interaction of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Genesis 1-2 Reflection Paper 1. Activity: Genesis 1 2 Keywords, phrases, themes, and topics for Genesis 1 2. Among the more interesting words from Genesis 1 are: In the beginning... it alerts the reader of the fact that everything that has ever taken place as regards man had a starting point, an origin. Time is a created object just as anything else is. Before time, in some presently incomprehensible way, God and His kingdom stood outside of any movement or effect from time. He can say He has a beginning in the sense that before time began, there was no need or reason to mark the flow of events. The origin of time is truly the beginning of all things except for that which is eternal. Unfathomable, yet also obvious. I do not want to argue a time span for the creation or the longevity of the universes presence. I have developed a growing inclination to see the state of innocence that had been before man s disobedience to have been potentially, millennia. My tendency is to accept as fact, that God created all things in the course of days. However, I am also aware that the Bible is not a physics book and does not require literal understandings of those concepts that we have such difficulty interpreting. Neither would I want to state a definitive timeline for man s history. I have my opinions, but in the end, they are just opinions. God created ... • 4. Vatican Council Research Paper The II Vatican council was held in rome from 1962 1965. Vatican Council II was an ecomunal or global council that is the meeting of all the Catholic bishops from all around the world which dealt with certain issues facing the Catholic Church. Major issues that took place during the era of the Vatican Council II was that the church was powerful and was taking to much money from people. Because of changes in culture due to modernism it was decided that the church needed to update its procedures to become more relevant and accessible to modern people. As Pope John XXIII said, the church needed to open the windows and let in some fresh air. Pope John XXIII named Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was the head of the Catholic church from 1958 to 1963 and sovereign of the Vatican city state, he was born on the 25th of October,1818 in Sotto il Monte in Italy. Following the death of Pope Pius XII on 9 October 1958, the papal conclave elected Angelo Roncalli at the age of 77 on the 28th of October ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were many methods to this reform which include: Services were no longer conducted in Hebrew, but in a mixture of Hebrew and English. Sections of the liturgy were omitted if they no longer corresponded to what Jews believed. In Orthodox synagogues women are seated separately from men and do not lead any part of the service when men are present. In Reform synagogues they sit together with men, participate in the liturgy. Reform Judaism is supportive of homosexuals and believe that they deserve the same rights as everyone else. Jews began to question their allegiance to such traditions as restrictive dietary laws, prayers in Hebrew, and the wearing of special outfits that set them apart as Jews. Many felt that Judaism would lose Jews to other religions. Reform Judaism will gain more followers than Orthodox Judaism but will lose it s traditions due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Research Study On Relational Database Technology Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about it. In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology. Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached to present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I did study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results. The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from any location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the internet is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be prone to the high load of the database layer. As a result, it was not possible for the relational database technology to handle the database load for such applications. Even scaling out the application servers will not solve the database load ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Uniform Crime Records And The Federal Bureau Of The... In the late 1920s, the Committee on Uniform Crime Records was established by the International Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP). The goal of the Committee was to develop a systematic way to measure crime in the United States. The Committee collaborated and decided to focus on seven (7) specific crime areas which they felt were the most known crimes and the most likely to be reported. These crimes were: burglary, robbery, larceny theft, rape, auto theft, murder and aggravated assault (James Rishard, 2008). The IACP developed their own definitions of these crimes to ensure uniformity of reporting the data collected. This information and definitions were published in 1929 in the Uniform Crime Reporting Manual. The first report of data collected was published later that same year and was amassed from 400 cities across the 48 contiguous United States, as well as the territories of Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. This report became known as the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). The following year, in 1930, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) was tapped to control the crime data collected for the UCR (James Rishard, 2008). Since 1930, there have been a few modifications made to the UCR. The FBI began recording the age, sex and race of those arrested as well as increasing the known crimes reported to law enforcement from seven (7) categories to eight (8) categories by adding the category of arson (James Rishard, 2008). • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Racism According to a teacher at Louisiana s top public high school, the n word is no longer racist and has utterly lost its negative connotation due to overuse. His students (and millions of Americans) seriously beg to differ. According to the Times Picayune, the Benjamin Franklin High School teacher identified in the video as Coach Ryan got into a heated exchange with one of his black students about why he is entitled, as a white man, to use the racial slur. A video of the argument was originally posted on Twitter but has since been protected. That s racist as sh*t, the student tells Coach Ryan. Why can you not understand that it s racist for a white man to say n****r to a black man? It s f***ing racist. Raw Story reported that the student asks a white classmate if he would ever use the n word and the classmate affirms that he wouldn t, after which the student opens the question to the entire class. They agree that they would not say the n word. Coach Ryan then proceeds to dig himself into a deeper hole while giving his students a disappointing lesson in white denial. It s a word that s used so many times that it doesn t mean its original meaning, he insists. The word has been commoditized so that anyone can use it, and it s not a negative connotation. Not about to indulge an outright falsehood, the student tells Coach Ryan that the word would absolutely have negative connotations if he used it it would be racist. Then, perhaps sadly inevitably, the teacher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay Analysis of The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost In the Robert Frost poem The Road Not Taken there is a pervasive and in many ways intrinsic sense of journey throughout. In such, the poem explores an aspect associated with human decision, or indecision, relative to the oxymoron, that choices with the least the difference should bear the most indifference, but realistically, carry the most difficulty. This is conveyed through the use of several pivotal techniques. Where the first such instance is the use of an extended metaphor, where the poem as a whole becomes a literary embodiment of something more, the journey of life. The second technique used is the writing style of first person. Where in using this, the reader can depict a clear train of thought from the walker and understand ... Wherein this is the extent of the metaphor, where in this poem it is a changeable anomaly subject to the readers interpretation of taking the road less travelled and whether it be a positive (sigh of satisfaction) or negative (sigh of regret). This is all one can hope when using a metaphor relating to the readers life, that they substitute their own feelings and create their own meaning, their own attitude towards to such decisions and subsequently, such journeys. Furthermore, we have the use of first person, where the almost universal effect is to have an in depth look into the character and their immediate response to a problem or dilemma. This poem no different, where in the first stanza we are ushered in with the use of anaphora in lines 2, 3 and 4 with the repetition of the word and . This specific use of anaphora is used to create the mindset and intelligible deduction of the traveller to the events and dilemma prescribed to him. Insofar as his immediate reaction be being presented with a choice. It shows his reaction of regret in that he is sorry he could not travel both and explains what he wish he could do be two travellers but also how he initiates his decision making process looked down one as far as I could . Frozen with fear is more accurate. The sociologist observed, no Euro American person #8230;dare say what he or she really means. Learner centered classrooms require significant planning and forethought by teachers to ensure that instruction is well structured, but fluid enough to allow for student led inquiry. This paper analyzes several studies and discussions put forth within the last five years that discuss how instructional practices, like cooperative learning, inquiry based learning and scaffolding, are ways teachers can use social constructivist based practices in the classroom. While most of the studies, which were mostly done within a single school in a small number of classrooms, show that cooperative learning, inquiry based learning and scaffolding is effective, more studies are needed to demonstrated a direct correlation between these practices and student achievement on a broader scale. How Teachers Can Use Social Constructivist Based Instructional Practices To Improve Student Achievement Many teachers are aware of the research that shows student centered instructional strategies, such as cooperative and inquiry based learning, ... • 14. Sanity in Hamlet by William Shakespeare Sanity in Hamlet The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines insanity as, a deranged state of the mind that usually occurs as a specific disorder . In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet is considered to be insane by many due to his unstable, deranged behavior and his attitude towards others. Hamlet does an outstanding job of acting insane throughout the play, so good, in fact, that his insanity is questioned to actually be truthful. The answer to Hamlet s madness lies in the actual reasons for his insanity. Although Hamlet s constant altering behavior was scrutinized by individuals as being psychotic, we can not forget that his father was just murdered and he wishes to uncover the truthfulness of his father s death and avenge the killer. Hamlet chooses to to change his behavior in order to try to put pressure on Claudius to reveal the truth of his father s murder, he displays rational and intelligent thinking in planning as well as in responding to unplanned situations, and he has been upset by the recent events that have happened in his life, all of which could create a false image of insanity. Hamlet must make conscious decisions in his interactions with Claudius in order to make an effort to uncover the truth of his father s murder. If Hamlet were to act his normal self it would be obvious that he knows about the murder, so he comes up with a plan to display a deranged manner to throw everyone off as to what he does or does not know about the murder. Mildred Pierce Patriarchy The films Mildred Pierce (Michael Curtiz, 1945) and Thirteen (Catherine Hardwicke, 2003) portray the Freudian myth that examines the view of feminine subservience apropos a patriarchy infused society. Hence, the conflict at the crux of the Maternal Melodrama that relates to the classical conflict (Chaos vs. Order) underlying most Hollywood genres is Autonomy vs. Control. In Mildred Pierce, the female characters representing Autonomy are posited against male Control. This Maternal Melodrama conflates with Film Noir so as it reflects the prevailing social context; women were breadwinners in the 40s, however, in the postwar era, hegemonic masculinity reasserted itself by divesting women of any power they had gained while the patriarchal order was suspended during WWII. Consequently, classical Hollywood narratives portrayed the impending chaos as women resisted patriarchy; such conflict was subtly present in the post feminist era. Accordingly, in Thirteen, Tracy ... Eventually, Melanie succeeds in subduing Tracy, who feebly resists her restraining if loving embrace. This act of containment counters the symbolic castration and legitimizes women s potency. Damm has already entered the U.S. market via a 17% acquisition of U.S. Beverage, a specialty distributor that works mainly with premium imports (Peet). U.S. Beverage has had a successful track record with imports in the past, and this partnership will allow Grupo Damm to circumvent the process of having to find a reliable importer and distributor. 3. Lesser Animals In Animal Farm Everyone has a point in his life where they find something to be absolutely ridiculous, whether it is the opposal to gay marriage or the new hoverboard that everyone seems to have nowadays. Some people choose to keep these thoughts to themselves and some choose to demonstrate their feelings like George Orwell did with his satirical novel Animal Farm. With the largely avoidable hardships of the animals representing the Soviet Union s working class, the naivete of these animals, and how the events throughout the novel parallel the history of the Soviet Union, Orwell demonstrates through the lesser animals in Animal Farm that he agrees that it is the responsibility of the public to know what the government is doing at all times and that it is absurd to just blindly follow. Through the hardships of the animals that could have easily been avoided if the government was more carefully managed, Orwell illustrates this agreement that it is the responsibility of the public to know what the government is doing at all times. Orwell demonstrates his feelings on the preposterity of the ignorant lesser animals that represent communist Russia s working class when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is when Snowball is chased out by Napoleon s nine dogs: [he] slipped through a hole in the hedge and was seen no more (Orwell 53). This event parallels how the KGB in Russia chased Leon Trotsky out of Russia and exiled and assassinated him. Orwell demonstrates that because no one knew what Napoleon was doing with Bluebell s puppies, this event was largely unavoidable, which compliments the idea that the public has the responsibility of knowing what the government is doing at all times in all instances. Another example of a parallel to history is when the Fourth Commandment mentioned sheets; but as it was there on the wall, it must have done so (Orwell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Decolorization Potential of Microorganisms The decolorization potential of microorganism was assessed by examining its ability to degrade various textile dyes. All 10 dyes monitored showed decolorization as follows: Reactive Yellow 84 (complete decolorization in 5 h), Reactive Green 19A (95% in 24 h) , Reactive Red 120 (complete decolorization in 6 h), Reactive Blue 160 (complete decolorization in 3 h), Reactive Red 31(complete decolorization in 6 h), Solvent Red 24 (complete decolorization in 8 h), Basic Green 4 (80% in 24 h), Diamond Green 4 (complete decolorization in 24 h), Pigment Orange 31 (complete decolorization in 3 h) and RO16 (complete decolorization in 2 h), while in sterile, cell free medium decolorization did not occur up to 48 h of incubation suggesting the absence of abiotic decolorization. As RO16 showed complete decolorization in 2 h, this industrially important toxic azo dye was taken for further studies. Lysinibacillus sp. RGS could decolorize RO16 rapidly and thus was found to be better than the bacterial consortium DAS reported by Jadhav et al (2011). To confirm the decolorization, UV Vis spectroscopic analysis was carried out. The absorption spectra of RO16 before and after treatment by Lysinibacillus sp. RGS in visible range were taken. Peak responsible for absorption maxima of parent dye (495 nm) were completely disappeared in the sample obtained after decolorization (Fig.S1) confirming the complete removal. • 34. The Second Shepherd Analysis The Second Shepherd s Play is a Wakefield cycle play written during the 15th century. The play is set in Bethlehem and is based on the birth of Jesus Christ told from the perspective of the shepherds attending their flock. During the Middle Ages, cycle plays were popular because they allowed the plays to be performed from town to town. This was important because people could not read and Bibles were so expensive. Cycle plays allowed Christians to learn about key elements pertaining to Jesus Christ and other Christian figures. The Second Shepherd s Play is a unique play in that it combines farcical elements and serious lessons. In the play, there are five main characters: Coll, Gib, Daw, Mak, and Gill. Mak, Daw, Gib, and Coll are shepherds and, at the beginning of the play, are all watching their sheep at night in the cold weather. The first part of the play consists of 190 lines where the shepherds are all complaining about something in their lives. Coll is complaining about the cold weather which is relatable to the audience during this time because they often faced harsh weather when attending their flock. Gib is seen complaining about his wife and his marriage. As he continues to complain about his wife, he also begins to warn the audience, especially the young men, to stay away from marriage. Both shepherds began to complain about Daw because they feel he is too lazy and playful. However, they contribute it to his age. Daw walks in complaining that he is hungry and ... • 36. Peaceful Protest Protests throughout history have sparked controversy in both their subject matter and execution, calling into question the true value they impart. Peaceful resistance is a key element in the development of a free society as it facilitates a wide breadth of actions from the raising of awareness and the greater dissemination of ideas all the way to active change in laws and government. Wide dissemination of ideas and changes to the law were products of the gay rights movement. In the 1960 s gay rights were practically nonexistent. The government was unconcerned with protecting the physical safety of gay people as evidenced by violence against the gay community which went completely unpunished. The government and law enforcement did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Questions about what should be protected under free speech have arisen, causing this country to question how far free speech should truly extend, some arguing that certain speech or protest works to harm society, not advance it. In 1977 members of the Nazi Party of America announced their intention to walk through Skokie, Illinois in Nazi regalia carrying swastikas. Skokie, a majority Jewish community and the home to many Holocaust survivors, erupted in anger as the residents attempted to stop the Nazis from marching. Residents of Skokie and sympathizers across the country argued that the protest aimed to incite hate against a particular religious group and inflict emotional harm. Many agreed with this point of view but the ACLU stepped in to protect the rights of the Nazi Party and their rights to free speech as protected by the 1st Amendment. The ACLU and the Nazis were successful and they retained their right to march wherever they wanted and say whatever they pleased. Although their speech was undoubtedly hateful and hurtful they still had the right to share their ideas. (Bekiempis) In response to the march residents of Skokie decided to open a Holocaust memorial museum in order to combat hatred with education. (Stone) The ultimate goal of any peaceful resistance is to spread ideas and influence the minds of the population. In the case of Skokie the march illuminated a problem in society the prevalence of excessive anti semitism. This realization informed many of the need for more Holocaust education, leading to the improvement of society. Even when a protest or peaceful resistance appears harmful or detrimental to a society, in the end the society is better off allowing it to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Topic Of Age Discrimination Introduction: The topic of age discrimination. Age discrimination is prohibited by the United States government under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 which was put into place to protect workers over the age of forty. Under this acactin is illegal to show any form of discrimination towards workers over the age of forty, including unfavorable treatment in the hiring decisions made by employers. This essentially means that of two prospective employees who possess the same qualifications, an employer cannot choose the younger of the two simply based on their age and therefore potential useful years of service. This essay seeks to examine this law and put forward arguments for and against the application of the law. While it may seem fair to enforce laws against age discrimination against workers over the age of forty, there is the opposing argument where workers under the age of forty may also experience indirect discrimination when passed over for jobs as a result of lack of experience, however, under the ADEA, they are not protected and so face this kind of discrimination in the workplace with no recourse for redress. In addition, much as workers over the age of forty are given recourse for action under the ADEA, as with many cases of discrimination, it can be difficult to prove disparate treatment or actual intent to discriminate, and there are many legitimate defenses to any lawsuits including the bona fide occupational qualification ... • 38. Domestic Abuse And Domestic Violence I chose to do the domestic survivors subculture I feel as if it was a great topic to focus on its going to reveal a lot of emotion. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence sometimes called battering is against the law. At first glance, it is hard to imagine why a victim of domestic violence would voluntarily remain in the relationship with the abuser. As you may know domestic violence doesn t always start off as violence it starts off as in the form of love. The abuser feels as if they love the person so much that it hurts. That the abuse they inflict on the person they love is because they love and care about them. Many victims feel as if no one will believe them. There has been so many cases that have gone unanswered because no one really knows what goes on. The person being abused hides what the abuser does because they think it is something they did wrong or they think the person loves them. Domestic abuse comes in different forms it can be verbal, physical, or sexual. Domestic abuse leaves psychological scars from anxiety due to living in ongoing danger. In my essay you will get to know a lot of women that have survived domestic abuse and their stories. Meet Lisette Johnson she is a domestic abuse survivor her story started off as her husband calling her names and always talking about her after while it progressed to much more. She feared leaving him because she had two kids and she was for sure she wouldn t get full custody of them. So she stuck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
