Frank O. Gehry on February 28, 1929 in Toronto, Canada. A creative child, he was encouraged by his grandmother, with whom he would build little cities out of scraps of wood.He would spend time drawing with his father and his mother introduced him to the world of art, but he said he’s dad thought he was only a dreamer unlike his mother always gave him a push. In 1947,Frank moved to California, and got a job driving a delivery truck, studied in Los Angeles College and Graduated from the university of southern California’s school of architecture in 1954.He studied city planning at the Harvard Graduate School Of Design for a year, leaving without completing the program.
Having grown up in Canada, Frank is a huge fan of Ice Hockey and in 2004 he designed the world cup trophy for hockey. Some people disliked the design of the trophy but I’m sure Frank loves it as you can see . Others criticized him he’s work, and said that his buildings wastes structural resources by creating functionless forms and doesn’t seem to belong to the surroundings, but lets take the Guggenheim Museum for example and if its worth all that or no.
Guggenheim Museum
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum of modern and contemporary art and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. It is built alongside the Nervion River in October 18, 1997, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Atlantic Coast.
The museum is clad in glass, titanium and limestone. Randomness of the curves are designed to catch the light. When it was opened to the public in 1997, it was immediately hailed as one of the world's most spectacular buildings in the style of Deconstructivism with a Concept. It has a structure that Consists of radically sculpted, organic contours.
Sited as it is in a port town, it is intended to resemble a ship.
Its brilliantly reflective titanium panels resemble fish scales.
The exhibitions in the museum itself change often, the museum hosts thematic exhibitions, centered for example on Chinese or Russian art. The museum's permanent collection concerns 20th century art traditional paintings and sculptures.
