3. ABSTRACT
⢠New natural methods of control are needed due to
the increase in the number of industrial and
appliances that must be controlled.
⢠In this paper presents releasable FPGA based hand
gesture recognition system is proposed by using a
method called artificial neural network is used this
method mainly used to add learning capabilities of
gesture recognition system that can be used for
impaired people. The sensor based gestures control
system is composed by two subsystems that
communicated via radio waves.
⢠Gesture recognition is important for developing
alternative human-computer interaction modalities
that enables humans to interface with machine in a
more natural way are many types of gesture
researches like body gesture, finger point movement,
etc.
4. OBJECTIVE
⢠The major problem that leads to develop such a project of smart home
automation system is because of our humans are bad attitude itself.
Humans are lazy to turn ON/OFF home appliances which is common
problem among us.
⢠Energy Savings. Home automation systems have definitely proven
themselves in the arena of energy efficiency. Automated thermostats
allow you to pre-program temperatures based on the time of day and
the day of the week.
⢠Actual energy savings ultimately depend on the type of device you
select and its automation capabilities. On average, product
manufacturers estimate the systems can help consumers save
anywhere from 10 to 15 percent off of heating and cooling bills.
⢠Convenience is another primary selling point for home automation.
Home automation virtually eliminates small hassles such as turning the
lights off before you go to bed, or adjusting the thermostat when you
wake up in the morning.
5. INTRODUCTION
⢠Due to the rapid increase of number of industrial or domestic
systems that must be controlled it is clear that new methods of
control are needed.
⢠With the advent of VLSI technology, designers could design single chip
with more than hundred thousand gates. Because of the complexity of
these circuits computer aided techniques became critical for verification
and for designing these digital circuits.
⢠One way to lead with increasing complexity of electronic systems and the
increasing time to market is to design at high levels of abstraction.
Traditional paper and pencil and capture and simulate methods have
largely given way to the described UN synthesized approach.
⢠Gesture based Home Automation system is advanced method of
controlling home appliances using spartan6 FPGA kit and gesture
recognition kit. The gesture kit accepts various hand gestures such us, left
to right, right to left, top to bottom and bottom to top and send the data
to FPGA kit. Finally FPGA control door lock open/close and bulb On/Off
through relay.
6. REVIEW OF LITERATURE
⢠The home automation improves the lifestyle
of the control of the home devices. As the
devices are filling the home, the home
appliances are filling the homes to improve
the comfort to the user.
⢠Here we are using FPGA as controller to
control the devices connected to it. We are
controlling home appliances using sensors.
We are using the FPGA other than the micro
controller because we can connect many
devices which can be monitored and the
FPGA can be used as a controller or a
processor.
⢠The Gesture board, carrying Microchipâs
MGSC3130 3D gesture recognition controller,
brings a new approach to designing intuitive
user interfaces. Itâs like a touchpad whose
input area extends 10cm upwards into space.
Users will be able to command an MCU or PC
by gesturing with hands and fingers above
the board, and by touching and tapping its
surface. The board comes with an IDC cable
connector.
7. METHODOLOGY
⢠Gesture recognition kit detects hand gesture
from user and process the data using PIC
microcontroller.
⢠Microcontroller output gesture data at digital
output in the digital I/O header.
⢠Spartan6 FPGA project kit is directly receives
gesture data through I/O pin and perform
control statements.
⢠The control statement includes door
open/close control using stepper motor with
ULN2003 diver circuit.
⢠Also lights ON/OFF control using Relay
interface with CFL Bulb.
⢠All the control operation gets displayed in
2x16 LCD interface.
8. RESULTS
⢠A Gesture based home automation system
is primarily constructed to reduce the
power consumption in houses through
operating the electronic appliances with
gestures.
⢠It is implemented to decrease the
complexity of using a smart phone or a
computed device for switching on/off the
appliances
⢠The operator can move his hand along the
gesture board in the respective directions
for operating the appliances .
⢠If the system is more complex system
we can also include number of gestures,
that means we can interface number of
devices .Here we can only interfacing
light and fan, here the system
implemented by a five basic gestures
used . Left, right, front, back and idle, if
you want more gestures the system will
received more signals and also
controlled by a more output devices.
9. COMPARISON WITH EXISTING
METHODS
Existing System
Previously we have used the mat lab Simulink environment for designing the system, where
only software simulation was used but in the proposed system we are going to use the Xilinx
system generator and implement it on FPGA
Proposed System
⢠This paper presents an Gesture board interface based on handâs gesture recognition.
⢠The gestures based control system is composed by two subsystems that communicated
via radio waves. The first subsystem is a transmitter that captures the movement of the
hand using accelerometers. The second subsystem is the receiver on which the data
processing takes place. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are used to decide the
operation.
⢠Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation is an easy an attractive way for
hardware implementation
10. CONCLUSION
⢠Home Automation is undeniably a resource which can make a home environment
automated. People can control their electrical devices via these Home Automation devices
and set up the controlling actions in the mobile. We think this product have high potential for
marketing in the future. Energy Savings. Home automation systems have definitely proven
themselves in the arena of energy efficiency. Automated thermostats allow you to pre-
program temperatures based on the time of day and the day of the week.
⢠Remote monitoring can put your mind at ease while youâre away from the house. With
remote dashboards, lights and lamps can be turned on and off with the touch of a button
while youâre on the go. These capabilities, combined with automated security systems, can
help you eliminate the risk of intrusions
