INTRODUCTION
Department Of Computer Science and Engineering, Sikkim Manipal Institute Of Technology
• This project presents a possible solution whereby a person can control the appliances, monitor and
collect data from it.
• This provides users convinience and comfort and also since the user can monitor the data the user
can check their resource use.
• Any appliances like bulbs, tubelights,AC,Fan or any electrical appliances can be set to turn on and
off or can be used to do any other work.
• Full home controlled systems with apps and devices to control the entire home are becoming more
prevalent.
• The System uses microcontroller for interfacing to external circuitary for authentication on app
and web server.
• The LCD displays the real time status of the devices/appliances.

PROBLEM DEFINITION
*Increasing need of smart home where devices can be remotely controlled or can be set
to respond to environment conditions.
*Home automation overall makes a smart home giving the person the ability to
control,monitor and secure their homes
*In the era of resource depletion home automation helps in energy conservation ,it also
helps in making the home more convinient and secure.

SOLUTION STRATEGY
• The appliances to be controlled by a smartphone app.
• Smartphone app acts as an interface between the mobile phone and the wifi module.
• AC appliances are interfaced to the system using relay which is controlled by
arduino.
• ESP8266 is used because of its wifi capabilities and Audrino IDE support.
• LCD Displays the realtime status of the device.
• L298 DC controller is used for its direction control capabilities.

 Wireless Connectivity.
 Expansion Capability.
 Displaying Status.
 Application Control.
 Device Managment
 Savings
 Convenience.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
ANALYSIS:
1.The system is designed for controlling of electrical appliances remotely and securely as well as displaying their status in real
time.
2/Controlling of electrical appliances or basic home automation provides convenience and security to the users .
3.Monitoring of real time device status provides the user with device information.
4.Controlling of appliances remotely gives the user the advantage of having authority over them and the user can use it from
anywhere with ease and without any incovenience.
5.The system basically makes everyday life easier by automation and control capability. It provides security to the user and also
helps in saving time and energy.
6.The system can easily be implemented as it can be integrated in any circuit and the outputs can be used to control and appliance
easily.
7.The app provides easily accessibility to the user and the user with their credentials can control the appliance remotely.
LIMITATIONS
1.First, as all work is being done over the internet, there lies the probability that our house might completely be at
risk, from any attacks made through the web.
2. System Compatibility. Controlling all aspects of home automation from one centralized platform is important,
but not all systems are compatible with one another.
3. Your security system, for example, may require you to log in to one location to manage settings, while your
smart thermostat may require you to log in to another platform to turn the air conditioner on and off.
4. To truly leverage the convenience of home automation, you may need to invest in centralized platform
technology to control all systems and devices from one location.
5. Cost. Even though the price of home automation systems has become much more affordable in recent years, the
cost to purchase and install a device can still add up.
6. Consumer Reports offers a wide range of information and insights - including costs - on the best home
automation systems on the market.
SUMMARY
1. The system provides convenience by allowing the users to control electrical appliances remotely
and securely as well as monitor them .
2. A smart phone application is used to control and monitor the home appliances using different type of communication
techniques.
3.It aims to improve quality of life by providing a safe, secure and comfortable place to live in . Also, it enables the owner to
control home's appliances without being physically at home.
FUTURE SCOPE
1.The future scope of the project is actually boundless. We, have only created an automation on a basic, ground level
with every day appliances like bulb and Fan.
2. What can be done in the future lies entirely on the ability to connect various other devices.
3.Use of CCTV cameras, baby alarm, water alarm, fire alarm, IoT locks for doors, and also heat detection and CO2
detection for sensing presence.
4. The future of the project as mentioned is boundless and in fact, if we take the rate of advancement of
Technological Prowess into consideration, we can easily assume that in about 10-15 years.
5. Home Automation will become a common scenario in and around India.
