Self-checkout devices are growing in number by more than 10% each year, according to Greg Buzek in a recent blog. So, contrary to some rumors circulating through the media, self-checkout is not dead or dying.
In a recent consumer study, NPD Group has confirmed that consumers are increasingly interested in self-checkout technology. The study showed that when grocers implement self-service, approximately 35% of transactions are completed using the technology. Additionally, nearly 50% of U.S. consumers want stores to offer self-checkout.
But to offer a successful self-checkout solution, retailers must consider a number of factors and determine the best implementation strategy. During this upcoming webinar, attendees will learn about the top 5 strategies that will ensure successful self-checkout in grocery stores. Real-world case studies will shed light on key self-checkout tactics.
Attendees also will learn more about the recent research completed by NPD, as well as an in-depth look at IHL’s “2011 Self-Checkout Kiosk Study,” presented by Greg Buzek.

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMsSease
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.

- Share actionable ways you can participate in Knowledge - - Capture & Transfer
In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Essentials of Automations: Exploring Attributes & Automation ParametersSafe Software
Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Getting the Most Out of ScyllaDB Monitoring: ShareChat's TipsScyllaDB
ScyllaDB monitoring provides a lot of useful information. But sometimes it’s not easy to find the root of the problem if something is wrong or even estimate the remaining capacity by the load on the cluster. This talk shares our team's practical tips on: 1) How to find the root of the problem by metrics if ScyllaDB is slow 2) How to interpret the load and plan capacity for the future 3) Compaction strategies and how to choose the right one 4) Important metrics which aren’t available in the default monitoring setup.
Lee Barnes - Path to Becoming an Effective Test Automation Engineer.pdfleebarnesutopia
So… you want to become a Test Automation Engineer (or hire and develop one)? While there’s quite a bit of information available about important technical and tool skills to master, there’s not enough discussion around the path to becoming an effective Test Automation Engineer that knows how to add VALUE. In my experience this had led to a proliferation of engineers who are proficient with tools and building frameworks but have skill and knowledge gaps, especially in software testing, that reduce the value they deliver with test automation.
In this talk, Lee will share his lessons learned from over 30 years of working with, and mentoring, hundreds of Test Automation Engineers. Whether you’re looking to get started in test automation or just want to improve your trade, this talk will give you a solid foundation and roadmap for ensuring your test automation efforts continuously add value. This talk is equally valuable for both aspiring Test Automation Engineers and those managing them! All attendees will take away a set of key foundational knowledge and a high-level learning path for leveling up test automation skills and ensuring they add value to their organizations.

Four Ways Automation Has Helped Us Cope with the Coronavirus Pandemic | SoGoSurvey
1. Four Ways Automation Has Helped
Us Cope with the Coronavirus
Pandemic
“Companies that invest more in digital transformation
actually outperform their peers over time. These
companies are more prepared for disruption, better
able to monetize new digital channels, and better able
to build a bigger user base. What’s more, this
phenomenon exists regardless of industry.”
- Geoff Cubitt, CEO,
Isobar US
2. As we’ve changed our daily habits to adjust to
the pandemic, automation has become a
larger part of our lives... and it's here to stay.
3. Here are the top four ways automation has
helped us cope with the pandemic – and how
it will likely continue to impact our lives.
5. • Self-service checkouts
• Eliminate the risk related to staff handling
every item purchased
• Can be easily disinfected between uses
• Are much less time-consuming than
having staff members wash their hands
after serving each customer
6. • Automated supermarkets
• Rely completely on sensors to track
what shoppers pick up
• End standing in line for the register
• Support social distancing
8. • Self-ordering kiosks in restaurants
and apps eliminate the need for
customers to speak to staff to order or
pay.
• Kiosks in hotels allow guests to check
in and out without having to connect
with a staff member.
10. • To adjust to customer needs,
businesses have:
• Widened delivery windows
• Directed inventory to busy locations
• Bypassed distribution centers
• Lowered online order size
• Relaxed return windows
• Capped purchases of high demand
products
11. • Businesses have also turned to
automated warehouse solutions
which:
• Prevent overcrowding to ensure
businesses can practice social distancing
• Allow individuals to work in separate
workstations that can be easily
disinfected between shifts
13. • Robo-cleaners perform tasks that
workers are unable to carry out while
working from home.
• These solutions help to maintain
cleanliness while ensuring people
can stay socially distanced.
14. • Robots are also being used to:
• Deliver food, drinks, and medication
to patients in hospitals
• Measure temperature and distribute
hand sanitizer
16. The use of automation in place of humans
has always been controversial.
However, as we shift our focus to staying
healthy, it is only a matter of time before
automating tasks becomes more widely
accepted.
Whether in supermarkets, warehouses, or
hospitals—it is now apparent that our
society has a more critical use case for
automation than even its strongest
proponents could have imagined.
