This document defines and provides brief descriptions of six different forms of energy: mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, sound, and chemical energy. Mechanical energy includes both kinetic and potential energy. Electrical energy is produced by electron movement. Light energy travels in waves, even through empty space. Thermal energy is the energy of moving particles and is also called heat energy. Sound energy comes from vibrating objects. An example of transforming chemical energy is a car engine, which changes the chemical potential energy in gasoline into kinetic motion energy.
