There are reasons beyond heart health to reduce sugar intake. Excessive sugar intake, especially from sweetened beverages, has been linked with higher calorie intake, higher body weight, and lower intake of vitamins and minerals. Therefore, in this Chinese New Year, I upload my slide for public to increase their awareness in scaling back sugar intake during this festive season.

The Convention was a two-day event on May 12th & 13th at Central Hall, Westminster, bringing the best minds from culture, politics and media to understand where we are, how we got here and what we’re going to do about it.
Just one of the important topics discussed over this two day event was: Making the case for food. This slidepack was used to introduce the session. Agenda follows:

On the 21st January 2016 the Food Foundation launched as an organisation and released their first report #ForceFed. The report shows how difficult it is for a typical British Family to choose a healthy diet and calls for concerted government action to incentivise the food system to make healthy eating easier.
The launch was held at the New Covent Garden Market and was chaired by Simon Maxwell CBE. The panel included John Glen MP, Kerry McCarthy MP, Rosie Boycott, Chair of the London Food Board, Kate Cooper, Chair of the Birmingham Food Council and Peter Backman, Managing Director of Horizons.
On Monday 9th November 16:00 The Food Foundation and Public Health England convened a parliamentary sugar roundtable to discuss the evidence behind the new dietary advice on sugar consumption.
This presentation, delivered by Dr Alison Tedstone, Director of Health and Obesity at Public Health England, talks through the SACN report and evidence package following the release of Sugar Reduction: The Evidence for Action (Found below)

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

27. Methodology
• The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition recommends that the average intake of free sugars should not
exceed 5% of total dietary energy intake across the UK population. Assuming a total average adult energy intake of
approximately 2000kcals per day, this would amount to no more than 30g/day of free sugars, or 7.5 sugar cubes.
For children aged 4-6, this would amount to no more than 19g/day of free sugars, or 5 sugar cubes.
• The term ‘free sugars’ comprises all monosaccharides (e.g. glucose and fructose) and disaccharides (e.g. sucrose)
added to foods by the manufacturer, cook or consumer, plus sugars naturally present in honey, syrups and
unsweetened fruit juices. Lactose (the naturally present sugar found in milk and milk products) and sugars
contained within the cellular structure of foods, such as fruit and vegetables, are excluded.
• Currently, nutrition information labels list the amount in grams of total carbohydrates, of which are sugars (total
sugars). Free sugars are not the same as total sugars because they exclude lactose or sugars within the cellular
structure of foods. Therefore, in order to obtain the amount of free sugars in the products, the value of any non-
free sugars had to be estimated and subtracted from the total sugars value. The ingredients list on each product
was scanned to identify ingredients that would have been included in the total sugar calculation, but would not be
classified as ‘free sugars’ (i.e. milk sugars). If any were identified, their contribution to total sugars in grams was
estimated using the following steps:
– The weight of the ingredient in 100g of the product was calculated using the % contribution listed in the ingredients list.
– The amount of total sugars in 100g of the ingredient was obtained from McCance and Widdowson’s composition of foods
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/composition-of-foods-integrated-dataset-cofid
– The amount of total sugars from the ingredient in 100g of the product was calculated.
– The amount of total sugars from the ingredient per product serving was calculated.
