Fermented foliar extracts are made by finely chopping leaves from plants like comfrey or nettles and layering them with brown sugar in a container. The material is weighted down for 24 hours before being covered and fermented in the dark at 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit for a week. After a week, the brown syrupy liquid that has accumulated is drained off and can be diluted and used as a nutrient-rich foliar spray for plants.
