The focus group agreed that R&B music was a relevant genre for the magazine targeting youth aged 14-20. They felt the name "The Mixtape" was catchy and memorable if accompanied by a good logo. A color photo on the cover was preferred over black and white as more conventional and appealing. A large, dominating color image on the cover was also recommended so long as cover lines remained visible.

2. Do you like the R&B genre that has been chosen for the magazine? They said: Yes, R&B is a relevant, modern style of music that is popular with our generation (14-20). I also feel I can relate to R&B artists and they are also my role models.

3. What do you think of the name ‘The Mixtape’? They said: Mixtape is a catchy title for a magazine and is also memorable. If you can come up with a good logo to accompany it would look really good. The name is associated with R&B and many artists produce ‘mix tapes’.

4. Do you prefer a full colour photo or a black and white photo on the front cover? They said: A colour photo would be better because it is more conventional and would also make the magazine more appealing. A black and white photo would be unique but it wouldn’t appeal to as many people as a normal full colour photo would.

5. Do you think the image on the front cover should dominate the page? They said: Yes, it is important to have a large main image that dominates the page to make sure it stands out on the page. As long as the cover lines are still visible over the image then a large image would be perfect.

6. Summary of my focus group. After interviewing the focus group I have concluded that R&B is an appropriate genre for my magazine and ‘The Mixtape’ is an effective title for the magazine. I also concluded that I should use a large, dominating and colourful image on the front cover of my magazine.
