Over 42,000 tweets with #FOAMems were posted in the first two years by over 6,000 participants, reaching over 60 million impressions. Most tweets were about clinical issues and resources were widely shared. Paramedics made up over half of the top tweeters. The study characterized the growth and sharing of clinical knowledge between paramedics using #FOAMems on social media.

Over 80% of young Americans use social media, and 2 out of 3 report using it at least once a day. By its nature of open sharing, collaboration and exchange of user-generated content, social media and other Web 2.0 technologies have the potential to exert a significant influence on our health through the creation and maintenance of social networks which affect the spread of health behaviors. We sought to conduct a systematic review of the literature for health-related research using social media that involve adolescents and young adults, with the goal of providing guidance on future research in the field and applications of findings to clinical practice for health care providers and organizations.

CDC Health Communication abstract 2011
This document describes a pilot program at an urban community clinic to provide point-of-care patient education (POCPE) to asthma patients using social media and portable media devices. The program aimed to educate patients on proper use of metered dose inhalers. Videos were created and uploaded to a private YouTube channel to demonstrate inhaler use. Surveys found that using these innovative tools improved patient understanding compared to traditional methods. This document analyzes user engagement and post performance on the Facebook walls of 153 public health organizations from 2006 to 2015 using machine learning techniques. The analysis shows an increasing trend in user engagement with health posts over time. Photo posts received the highest engagement while link posts received medium engagement. Clustering the data identified that photo and link posts were most favorable for high and medium user engagement respectively.

This study examined the quality and use of health information found on the internet by students at Panjab University in Chandigarh, India. The researchers surveyed 200 students and analyzed health-related websites and advertisements. They found that while the majority of students found internet health information useful, the quality was poor and advertisements often violated regulations. Most students searched for beauty, hair, and skin topics. The study highlights both the benefits and risks of internet health searches, as well as the need for better oversight of online health information and advertising.

This study aimed to improve basic life support (BLS) skills through simulation, feedback, and intensive coaching. Sixteen emergency medical technicians and paramedics participated, completing initial BLS assessments followed by coaching sessions. Participants were then reassessed. Results showed improvements in key BLS metrics like compression rate, depth, fraction and hands-off time after coaching. Prehospital care in the UAE
Prehospital emergency medical services in the UAE have several levels of certification for providers. EMT-Basic providers have 160 hours of education and can perform basic life support. EMT-Intermediates have two years of education and can perform more advanced skills like IV medications. EMT-Advanced or Paramedics have diploma or degree education and can perform advanced life support skills like manual defibrillation and advanced airways. Extended Scope of Practice Providers have postgraduate qualifications allowing them to perform very advanced skills like ultrasound, mechanical ventilation, and administer a wide range of medications.
Generic AED weekly status check
The document provides instructions for weekly checks of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). It states to check the battery status indicator, verify pads are present and in good condition, and that the first responder kit is attached, which includes gloves, pocket mask/face shield, and razor. Sepsis
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to infection causes injury to its own tissues. Globally, sepsis kills about 8 million people annually. Early recognition and treatment are key to improving outcomes. The first hours after diagnosis are especially critical, as mortality increases by about 8% every hour that antibiotics are delayed. Prompt administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics and fluid resuscitation can significantly reduce mortality from sepsis.
Seizures
Seizures are defined as transient occurrences of signs and symptoms due to abnormal neuronal activity in the brain that can be caused by various metabolic, structural, genetic and infectious factors. There are several types of seizures that are classified as generalized seizures, which involve both sides of the brain, and focal seizures, which start in one area of the brain. Focal seizures can be further broken down into simple focal seizures involving sensations, emotions or muscle movements, and complex focal seizures that impair awareness or cause involuntary movements. Treatment involves maintaining airway, breathing and circulation, as well as pharmacological interventions.

In this session we will discuss how paramedics can utilise social media to improve their education and clinical practice, describe the concept of Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed), take a look at recent findings from a study investigating how Irish paramedics use online learning and social media, and compare to see if Ontario paramedics utilise them differently. Finally, we will discuss some general rules to ensure patient confidentiality and your professional reputation when using social media.

Heat related illness

ABSTRACT
Objective: Our objective was to compare the change in research informed knowledge of health professionals
and their intended practice following exposure to research information delivered by either Twitter or Facebook.
Methods: This open label comparative design study randomized health professional clinicians to receive
“practice points” on tendinopathy management via Twitter or Facebook. Evaluated outcomes included knowl-
edge change and self-reported changes to clinical practice.
Results: Four hundred and ninety-four participants were randomized to 1 of 2 groups and 317 responders ana-
lyzed. Both groups demonstrated improvements in knowledge and reported changes to clinical practice. There
was no statistical difference between groups for the outcomes of knowledge change (P¼ .728), changes to clini-
cal practice (P¼ .11) or the increased use of research information (P¼ .89). Practice points were shared more by
the Twitter group (P < .001); attrition was lower in the Facebook group (P < .001).
Conclusion: Research information delivered by either Twitter or Facebook can improve clinician knowledge and
promote behavior change. No differences in these outcomes were observed between the Twitter and Facebook
groups. Brief social media posts are as effective as longer posts for improving knowledge and promoting
behavior change. Twitter may be more useful in publicizing information and Facebook for encouraging course
completion.

Tweeting about journal articles: Engagement, marketing or just gibberish?
This study analyzed tweets linking to dental journal articles to understand the role of Twitter in scholarly communication. The researchers found that the top tweeted papers were focused on by single-issue campaigners and social media managers, rather than broader discussion. Many Twitter accounts behaved like bots by repetitively tweeting full paper titles and URLs. While journals actively promoted their own content, tweets did not correlate well with citations and most showed little engagement with papers' contents. The researchers call for better understanding Twitter's role and distinguishing attention, marketing, and genuine engagement to inform altmetric studies and research evaluation.

3) The study has begun recruiting sites and participants. Goals are to recruit more participants and locations, obtain additional funding, and conduct sub-studies at local sites.

There are multiple steps to make sure the researcher is prepared and has met the requirements to submit research to a professional journal. Here are a few from our textbook.
1. Select a journal that matches the subject of your study and make sure the journal publishes research
2. What is the rejection rate and have similar articles been published lately? Make sure the research paper will add value to the journal to avoid rejection
3. Follow all format rules including any page limitations and make sure the article is of interest to the journal.
4. Assemble all your material such as references, the original proposal, and other pertinent materials before creating the outline. The outline should include an introduction that catches the reader’s attention, the importance and purpose of the study, include a research question such as PICO and a hypothesis, and ask a friend to review and critique the manuscript.
I feel the biggest obstacle would be finding research subject matter that hasn’t already been written about. What could I add to the research that is already out there? Another obstacle would be time and money.

Submitting research papers to professional journals can be a competitive and difficult process, and due process must be followed. Typically, the first step is to locate a journal. Notably, researchers should first identify journals that might be the best fit for publishing their findings. Researchers can use the JournalFinder tool to match their research papers and learn more about each journal. The second step is to get the paper ready for submission. Researchers must be aware of the requirements for the specific journal in order to prepare their research papers accordingly (Van Teijlingen et al., 2017). Researchers must follow specific guidelines for authors of the journal to which they are submitting. The following step is to submit and revise your work. Checking the open access options on the journal's home page, considering the options for sharing research data, being accurate and clear when monitoring proofs, and being aware of copyright and licensing are some of the tips for submitting research. When a research paper is submitted, it is reviewed by editors and, if it passes the screening, it is sent for peer-review by experts in the field.
The fourth step is to keep track of the research. Because most journals have automated their services, researchers can track their papers online. Researchers are given a reference number after submitting their work, which they can use to track their progress. Researchers should share and promote their research once it has been published in order to have a greater impact. Sharing research, accomplishments, and goals with a larger audience increases visibility in relevant fields (Kline, 2018). As a result, the research is cited more freque.

This document discusses initiatives by National Ambulance in the United Arab Emirates to improve outcomes for patients experiencing cardiac arrest. It found that applying elements of the cardiac arrest chain of survival, including bystander CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator, and mechanical chest compressions, increased rates of return of spontaneous circulation. Over a six month period, National Ambulance responded to 232 cardiac arrest cases and was able to achieve an overall return of spontaneous circulation rate of 5.2%, with a higher rate of 3.9% when bystander CPR was provided. Proof of concept of Video Laryngoscopy Intubation: Potential utility in the p...
This study evaluated the use of video laryngoscopy (VL) with two different types of screens by emergency medical technicians with no prior intubation experience. Twenty technicians used direct laryngoscopy (DL) and the two VL methods on a manikin. VL with a distal screen had comparable intubation times, success rates, and difficulty ratings to DL. VL with an attached screen took longer, had lower success rates, and was rated as more difficult. The study suggests VL with a distal screen may help less experienced providers but more research is needed to determine if it provides benefits for emergency technicians in the field.

Clopidogrel is an oral drug that irreversibly inhibits platelet aggregation through a different mechanism than aspirin. Several studies since 2005 have shown that clopidogrel reduces combined rates of cardiovascular mortality, nonfatal heart attack, and stroke when used in addition to aspirin and anticoagulants for patients with non-ST-elevation or ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome. Clopidogrel increases the risk of major bleeding, especially for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting within 5-7 days. The guidelines recommend a clopidogrel loading dose for moderate and high risk ACS patients but the ideal dose for patients over age 75 is still unclear.

1) Adenosine is recommended as the first-line treatment for PSVT. It should be administered as a 6 mg rapid IV push, followed by a 12 mg dose if no conversion occurs within 1-2 minutes.
2) Adenosine transiently slows ventricular rate for other SVTs like atrial fibrillation but does not terminate them. It is safe and effective for treating PSVT in pregnancy.
3) For pediatric patients, adenosine 0.1 mg/kg IV/IO is very effective for cardioverting SVT with minimal side effects and is the recommended first-line treatment if IV/IO access is available.
Heat related illness handout
Heat exhaustion is caused by water and salt depletion from heavy sweating during prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The symptoms include confusion, dark urine, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, headache, muscle cramps, nausea, pale skin and profuse sweating. Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature, with a temperature over 40.6 degrees Celsius, and it may be accompanied by confusion and lack of sweating. To prevent heat illness, one should drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, slow down in hot weather, add salt to meals and tell a supervisor if feeling unwell. Treatment involves immediately cooling down, resting in air conditioning, drinking fluids and using cooling measures like showers.

MERS CoV overview
MERS-CoV is a coronavirus that was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has a 30% mortality rate. It causes severe acute respiratory illness with symptoms like fever, cough and shortness of breath. While it has primarily affected countries on the Arabian Peninsula, there have also been some travel-associated cases in other countries. At risk groups include those with underlying medical conditions. Prevention strategies focus on handwashing and disinfecting surfaces as there is currently no vaccine or antiviral treatment available.
Spinal immobilisation

Ketamine is a non-opioid analgesic and dissociative drug that induces analgesia and sedation within 60 seconds of IV administration or 3-5 minutes of IM injection. It provides mild increases in blood pressure and heart rate but has been shown to reduce bronchospasm and airway resistance. Several studies found ketamine to be effective for trauma pain relief in pre-hospital settings, often superior to morphine alone, with mild side effects like emergence phenomena but no required airway interventions or significant complications. Ketamine may also have direct neuroprotective effects.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover

- 2. • Social media use amongst healthcare professionals is on the rise and it is increasingly being used by paramedics as a platform for continuing education and international collaboration. • In February 2014 the hashtag ‘#FOAMems’ was registered – it is used by paramedics and other clinicians who are involved in sharing knowledge related to emergency medical services, Paramedicine, and prehospital care. • #FOAMems is an extension of the FOAM (free open access medical education) movement. Introduction • The purpose of this study was to characterize and evaluate the content of #FOAMems tweets in the first two years of operation.

Methods • An analytical report and transcript for #FOAMems was generated on symplur.com, with a search date from 4th February 2014 to 4th February 2016, a total period of 24 months. • Analysis of all tweets for a random one month period (1st-31st October 2015) containing the hashtag was also generated on both symplur.com and Followthehashtag. • All tweets were reviewed and categorized by two reviewers. Of these 92 individuals, 52% were paramedics (n=48). • Tweets were also categorized based on content, source (original tweet or retweet) and whether they linked to referenced material or not.
