Project proposal title and date: Audio Documentary (Title to be Determined)
12.1.2020
Main area of activity:
I plan to create an audio documentary/podcast focusing on an aspect of nature, specifically
wildlife watching (including birds, insects and other animals) and how we , ashumans, are
drawn to this type of activity.
Rationale:
Across the two years I have been studying this course, I have made a music video, a
sculpture magazine, a video game, two audiobooks and a podcast exploring the music of
John Williams. In editing my podcast and my first audiobook on Adobe Premier Pro, I have
learnt how to manipulate volume levelsto a point where both music and narration can be
heard while also learning to manipulate the colour filter in my music video to make images
appear stark and desaturated. Additionally, I have also learnt to create my own music
through GarageBand appropriate to the product I am making.
My John Williamspodcast will have a direct impact on my project as I hope to use both
original music as well asfilm tracks purchased digitally to create a rich soundtrack for my
finished nature documentary, given how well the combination worked previously with
certain themes being attached to a creature or a place.
Project Concept:
The final concept I am going to develop is a nature documentary, inspired by the Wildwatch
sessions I have attended at St Nick’s Fields on Wednesday. However, due to the ongoing
lockdown, I will ultimately be unable to film interviews directly with group members or
people associated with the group as I had originally hoped. Despite this, the documentary’s
final themes will remain unchanged and, when finished, will hopefully answer the question,
“Why are we drawn to watching wildlife?”
To ensure my finished product is of the best quality possible, as part of my research, I plan
to listen to a few podcasts centered around different aspects of nature, such as birdsong,
as well asa snippet from one or two David Attenborough documentaries on BBC Sounds
and BBC iPlayer. These disparate documentaries will prove pivotal to the final direction of
my project, as each of them have been structured to focus on one specific area of nature.
While David Attenborough’s documentaries focus on a wide range of subjects, these are
usually contained within the episode it is dedicated to e.g. an episode of The Blue Planet
focusing on the darkest depths of the oceans might look at how certain creatures have
adapted to the darkness in order to survive.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
As I have done in the past while developing different projects, I plan to keep two journals:
One where I will reflect over the past day or week and one to document production as my
nature documentary continues to evolve, documenting how I feel certain processes went
including what I feel I did well and what could have been done better.
Once the documentary has been fully recorded and edited, I will then go to evaluate

additional aspects in a similar capacity, such as the similarities and differences betw een
my documentary and the Discovery: Birdsong podcast, what elements of peer feedback I
agree with and what I feel did well aswell as what could have been done better, before
submitting the finished product and accompanying work thereof onto my Wix website.
These processess will allow me to further understand of how to carefully edit together an
audio documentary, something which I feel I continue to improve in.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production  Proposal and background research - Describe
and pitch the project you want to make in as
much detail as possible, as this will become the
main driving force of its finished form.
2 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary (Part 1: Look
for podcasts and nature documentaries)
3 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary (Part 2: Carry
out context research and identify inspirational
sources)
4 Pre-production  Experiments Part 1 (Start developing a logo on
Photoshop. This may be used to promote future
work created under this banner.)
5 Pre-production  Experiments Part 2 (Write a script for a

negative points based on what they have said.
14 Evaluation  Evaluation Part 1 (Write evaluation on Word
Document as a recording script and identify your
main strengths and weaknesses in developing
this project.)
15 Evaluation  Evaluation Part 2 (Finish writing evaluation script
