Enabling a transition from periodic to
predictive maintenance
Metrycom empowers energy companies with an
unprecedented visibility on their high voltage transmission
grid and implement smart maintenance, dramatically
reducing operational costs while ensuring
higher service quality.
Unique visibility. Improved results.
Metrycom allows utilities companies to extract the value inherent to
the Internet of Things by empowering them with continuous visibility
over their high voltage transmission and distribution lines, while
reducing maintenance costs and, increasing both reliability and
safety.
Our technology combines smart induction sensors, self-developed
low-cost mesh radios and proprietary algorithms to detect flashovers
and variations in the electrical field patterns. These readings are
translated into relevant and useful information that is processed,
mapped and visualized for network managers and maintenance
engineers.
Due to our hands-on experience and unique interdisciplinary know-
how, we have developed a cost-effective solution, which recoups its
deployment within months.
Dedicated to addressing the needs of
power companies
Since 2008, Metrycom has been providing rapidly deployed ultra-low
power consumption wireless sensor solutions for large area
applications. We enable power utilities to gain better visibility on their
transmission and distribution lines, which suffer from isolator strings
contamination and faults, typically in remote locations.
In 2010 Metrycom teamed up with the Israel Electric Corporation
(IEC), one of Metrycom’s shareholders, to utilize the experience and
knowledge of both companies for the development of an inexpensive
and practical solutions which resulted in a complete sensing and
radio solution for high voltage lines that could be deployed live on
transmission lines.
Metrycom’s proprietary sensor solutions are now deployed by the IEC
and additional power utilities worldwide for partial discharge (PD)
monitoring on transmission lines and fault locating on transmission
and distribution lines, especially in remote rural areas. Through its
sensor and data analysis technologies, Metrycom leads high voltage
line monitoring and Smart T&D Grids sectors.
Empowering Power Utilities with
Internet of Things Technology
IMPROVED POWER QUALITY
Utilities gain unprecedented visibility on the
transmission and distribution grids through
prediction analytics of deteriorating insulator strings
and accurate identification of high impedance faults.
REDUCED MAINTENANCE COST
Our systems provide valuable real-time information,
allowing focusing on contaminated power line
segments only and avoiding unnecessary insulator
washing operations, as well as reducing fault
localization time.
IMPROVED SAFETY
Our systems detect hazards, which sometimes are
not detected by an existing protection system, as
well as reduce the need to re-apply power multiple
times in order to find faults using trial and error
detection methods.
IMPROVED NETWORK VISIBILITY
Utilities gain unprecedented visibility on the
transmission and distribution grids through
prediction analytics of deteriorating isolator strings
and accurate identification of high impedance faults.
Spearheading advanced high
voltage Transmission &
Distribution grid
sensors and analytics
Matrycom’s MetrySense monitoring and analysis solutions
enable power utilities to build a smart grid with rapidly
deployed, low cost and energy-efficient smart wireless sensors
that automatically create an IPv6 mesh network.
MetrySense is our flagship product suite – a unique array of
complementary low-cost smart grid solutions for high-voltage (HV)
power transmission and distribution grids. MetrySense addresses the
essential needs of power utilities worldwide, including the quality of
electrical power distributed and supplied, power outages, and low
visibility issues relating to their power grid as it develops over time.
Metrycom systems deliver:
The MetrySense Product Suite
The MetrySense solution comprises easy-to-deploy, low-energy
smart wireless sensors that automatically create an IPv6 mesh
network, which in turn provides access to smart grid elements such
as re-closers and meters, with the benefit of instant and extended
territorial coverage. MetrySense’s powerful analytical software
employs proprietary algorithms that predict and locate faults in High
Voltage grids.
Metrycom provides visibility on remote segment of the grid,
performance of aging equipment and the ability to monitor the
evolution of potential failures and hazards over time. Having the
benefit of such a deep and comprehensive view on every aspect of
the distribution network, management can now precisely address
maintenance issues only where and when required, rather than
replacing and maintaining equipment periodically, which until now has
been based on statistical estimations.
Modular Wireless Self-Configurable IPv6 Connectivity and Control System
MetrySense-3000 is a modular low-power outdoor connectivity system that
interfaces digital and analog sensors, meters and actuators and connects them via
a low power wireless mesh-network to IP gateways and remote monitoring centers.
Innovative technology addressing power line insulator string contamination
that acts as a Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring system for transmission
companies who wants to:
¤  Monitor their PD activity
¤  Improve the efficiency of their washing operations while reducing costs
¤  Avoid power interruption due to vandalism
¤  Monitor the need for replacing composite insulator based transmission lines
The MS4000 monitors the line and provides information when ageing insulators
need replacement. The MS4000 solution enables power utilities to:
¤  Gain direct visibility as to the extent and location of flashovers partial
discharges on HV lines.
¤  Predict risk of development of flashovers before they occur
¤  Target washing operations to contaminated sections only.
¤  Monitor the quality of washing operations.
¤  Improve grid power quality through more effective washing operations.
¤  Eliminate unnecessary washing operations, thus reducing costs.
¤  Recoup investment in approximately 18 months.
Smart Grid solution for Rural Networks that identifies and locates grid faults
as well as fault type
Metrycom’s Rural Networks Smart Grid Solution is based on its novel
MetrySense-5000 (MS5000) sensors, which is an integrated overhead line
monitoring solution possessing an advanced proprietary and inexpensive radio
network capability, specifically designed to operate on medium voltage (MV)
networks.
Smart Analytics & Visualization
The MetryView server performs two-way communications between
deployed MetrySense sensors and RTUs in the field, analyzes
collected data partially analyzed by the sensors, and visualizes
analysis results featuring a well-conceived UI/UX.
MetrySense installations around the world
Delivering advanced T&D grid monitoring solutions globally
MetrySense systems have been installed by a number of power utilities in countries
that include Israel, Brazil, Russia and the USA. Utilities from all continents are currently
requesting proposals for pilot projects, which will be supplied as the company grows to
become a global leader in T&D Smart Grid Visibility.
